    Love the concept of the series - main thing I didn’t like about the sound was using studio monitors (and a sub) at the desk to reference the front of house........

    • @andrewlepard1217
      @andrewlepard1217 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general, you are absolutely correct, you always want to mix to the sound of the room. The only reason why this setup works for us is that both the monitors and sub are at a very low level. They are only there to give the extra clarity you get towards the front of the room, not really for any extra volume.

      @@HairyScaryMark If we were to have the booth in a location that required significant volume from the speakers we would definitely want to match them, however since they are at such a low volume and only really there for extra detail we chose the lower cost and size over a perfect match.

      @tyloxey 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually a pretty good design in a situation like theirs. If you use an SPL meter to match PA Volume and Monitor Volume at Unity you can probably get really close to an accurate picture. Even closer if you (which I'm sure they did) EQ them to get similar response.

    One thing i want to say, i noticed that the speakers are not at the same level as the other equipments, and thats a thing that i noticed in many churches.... seems that there is not much interest in finding the right speakers for your room specifications... and that's a pitty, because the speakers are, in my opinion, very very important. Of course, in the moment you start to search for professional and dedicated solution, you need to have the top dollar.

    It wasn't mentioned but I wanted to mention it/ask. The FOH monitor speakers you had setup would need to be time delayed to your PA. I assume when the integrator that set them up did that, but I just wanted to point out to anybody who was going to try that for themselves, you need to time delay your monitor speakers.
    The distance from the speakers to FOH is your distance and the formula is distance divided by the speed of sound (343m/s) for the delay time.

Instead, they all sit in the entry where the cafe is and they're so loud, they can be heard in the service. I'm sure I shush them at least 5 or 7 times a month. (We have two services each Sunday.) Going to church nowadays looks like your going to a rock concert. Do churches really need to go to this extreme?

      "how cool would it be to have lights on our worship team?" "Nah, that's not in the bible and God would be mad".
      Churches have changed because the generations have changed, not because we've sold out. Good luck getting a gaggle of millennials to enjoy standing in a pew with the old red hymnal, singing along to an organ. Different isn't a synonym for bad, I wish more people could understand that.

      Being an LD for my church, I have learned that church lighting is always about the spirit of worship, setting the mood and atmosphere to whatever the song is. LDs who make a traditions service look like a heavy rock concert probably need to rethink their choices. Yeah, it’s still a way to appeal to the millennials and I sometimes use the “rock concert” vibe for our children’s ministry because it’s fun but in every circumstance, lighting always compliments the worship by setting the mood and looking cool at the same time. It’s still serving God with your own talents and think about this: would you be more “in the zone” worshipping in a room with indigo accents and slowly rotating gobos or a room lit by daylight fluorescent tubes?
      Also, *you’re

      We, as the Church, need to do anything short of sin to win people to Christ. If that means attracting the young generation with lights, screens, modern worship music, social media.. we need to be doing that.
      Paul said it best in 1 Corinthians 9 when he talked about different ways he used to win people. We should be doing that.
      "Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings."

    isn’t it at all a little complex for the average operator you get offering up their time to mix for the church? Must be paid pro audio guys to run system. Wouldn’t get many volunteers. Any way, still modest compared to some high flying churches. All the best.

    Ashton, you should work on your grammar. The description should read "Jake and I". Amateur mistake!
    In all seriousness though, this series is a great idea. Looking forward to the next episode. I'd love to see some janky church setups too!

      Matt Boast its actually correct in this context. You say jake and me when you take away “jake and” and just leave the me it makes sense. Saying join I doesn’t make sense. Thus in this context jake and me is correct. You figure it out the same way you would figure out when to use “us” and “we”
