The whole section where they are talking in both ears was the coolest thing ever. I want to watch every DCI Finals performance from last year just like that. So intriguing.
I've filmed college football/volleyball/basketball for two years. As a camerguy, I have to give it to these guys, they are listening to two directors, finding the shots on times, and making their shots look really good. Amazing.
I was at finals last night and it’s the exact same crew on the sideline in 2024 as it was 9 years ago. That’s some serious love for drum corps to be doing this year after year. It’s like never aging out!
4:17 This is the kind of TV I'd kill to shoot. I rewatched this segment a few times, picking a new camera position each time to listen for, and it certainly got the adrenaline pumping. I run studio camera, but never anything on this level.
And lastly, not a better Corp, show, or part of a show to highlight! The high brass work in these couple of minutes is simply unmatched. Thank you! And thank you John!!!
Talked to Tom years ago about the use of cablecam for the ultimate versatility of capturing the show that is the way to add more imersion for audience and capture this event. I stand behind that as a corp alumni and professional camera tech in broadcast and motion picture.
That's something I always thought would add to the program. Did he give a reason why they don't use one? The only guess I could give is that the big curtain in the back might obstruct the cable if they had to anchor it to the four corners of the stadium.
Tom Blair and Jeff Clark, two exceptionally talented individuals, but more importantly two really nice guys who I’ve had the pleasure to meet and know. Praying you and your families are safe, healthy, and doing well. Just saw this video.....awesome. Incredible work, thank you very much.
I have enrolled for a course in Film and Television in June this year, but I do have an interview in the next month or so and I'm really hoping I make it in. I have always loved Cameras, particularly Steadicams and I really hope to make it into that career pathway. Watching these sort of videos on TH-cam be is just so fun and awesome. I'm only 19 and only just finished school about 2 and a half months ago, and rally have the advantage when it comes to the time I have and how quick I'm making my way into my dream career by going and applying for My Course only months after finishing school. Can't wait to make my way up the ladder to becoming a Steadicam Operator.
Deano gives 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻!!! Understand the national situation and international situation, but hoping some brass lines are getting together and can grace us with some amazing short gigs this summer ........always looking for updates. Be well and many thanks again!
very good teamwork! amazing to watch the synchronization of it all. I always wanted to work in the technical field of the television or the film industry, but I am too stupid and dumb. cannot even figure out how to change batteries on my 60 year old alarm clock.
for a behind the scenes feature of video production and editing, it's weird that the last shot they used (at 8:54 where they're pulling back in the studio) is actually reverse footage of the camera going in. look at the corps in the TV screen on the bottom left "marching" backwards and then the guard guy sprinting from one spot to the next. not complaining one bit as i have been a huge DCI fan since i can remember but i wonder if production thought nobody would notice that. regardless, can't wait for 2016!!!!
Experienced as cam op for a big art performance las year, eventhough not as big as this but for sure it's (controlled) chaotic. Luckily that time only one person directed us, not two like they did!
As the mother of two daughters involved in theater and color guard, one as her high school stage manager, the other as lead flag bearer and also stage performer, I can say this piece was excellent and chock full of unknown information. However, as Librarian, not enough information was given for my liking to make it searchable if I want to find it again. For example, I want to know the name of the group you were following, the title of the show they were doing with the Mad Hatter and the time and place it was performed. The same goes for ANY of the DCI clips of performances videotaped. THX
Closed-captioning gets a low grade on execution but bonus points for originality... "drum and bugle corps corps" translated to "gemma doogle whores". LOL
I have been shooting, editing and producing videos for The LSU Tiger Band for five years. From hype to stadium pregame videos. It's so much fun and very hard work. Using the FreeFly Movi as well doing Drones shots. I was able to capture some amazing footage over the years. After viewing DCI BTS reel I think I may apply and see if there may be an opportunity for me to join there team. What they do is amazing! Moe
A good number of shows are broadcast live by wwwFloMarching.com, or you can go to www.fathomevents.com and find a theater near you that will be showing either the Tour Premiere or World Championship Prelims.
In most shots, it's the Concord Blue Devils. (DCI's all-time champion corps) Tidbits of others as well -- esp. Carolina Crown, with their red-trimmed black costuming, and quirky asymmetrical headgear.
nope they do scripted programming have zero interest in Iive events not their market their perfectly fine with original content and making bank unfortunately DCI would cost them money not make them money.
Shout out to DCI for giving their Television Crew some well deserved credit! (not many organizations do this)
Its really not their crew, most are local freelance hires
The whole section where they are talking in both ears was the coolest thing ever. I want to watch every DCI Finals performance from last year just like that. So intriguing.
I want to have the full eight-feed experience on it. That's amazing stuff.
What, with all the camera feeds?
I've filmed college football/volleyball/basketball for two years. As a camerguy, I have to give it to these guys, they are listening to two directors, finding the shots on times, and making their shots look really good. Amazing.
you guys use film?... you said film ! If only
Same boat here, I’d probably crack under the pressure lol
Watching all the cameras at once and hearing the calls was so cool. Felt like a military operation
I was at finals last night and it’s the exact same crew on the sideline in 2024 as it was 9 years ago. That’s some serious love for drum corps to be doing this year after year. It’s like never aging out!
Thank You DCI Finally getting to see the behind the cam view. Just wishing for the broadcast to be back on ESPN or PBS.
HIRE ME
+ThatWasSexyPit HIRE HIM
+ThatWasSexyPit YES!!!
just do it!
HIRE HIM!
Me too :(
i never realized how hard it is to capture drum corps on tape especially when their is so much happening during a show
4:17 This is the kind of TV I'd kill to shoot. I rewatched this segment a few times, picking a new camera position each time to listen for, and it certainly got the adrenaline pumping. I run studio camera, but never anything on this level.
Same
Watching/listening to the control room is almost as heart-pounding as the show on the field. :)
The unsung heroes, they do such an incredible job!
4:52 They actually put footage of that tenor guy falling down the stairs in camera 2 into the final cut. D e c e a s e d
THIS IS THE COOLEST JOB EVER!
And lastly, not a better Corp, show, or part of a show to highlight! The high brass work in these couple of minutes is simply unmatched. Thank you! And thank you John!!!
4:53 in camera 2 a tenor player falls
Oh man, I know that feeling when you mess up at a big competition... good thing it didn't go live!
As a tenor player myself, that hurt to watch.
It did go live lol poor guy
In camera 5
I feel bad for both the cameraman and the tenor. I would not want that to make the final cut
I try to listen the director , my ears can't handle it

too expensive for DCI
Damn, massive props to these guys, lots of hard work
Tom Blair and Jeff Clark, two exceptionally talented individuals, but more importantly two really nice guys who I’ve had the pleasure to meet and know. Praying you and your families are safe, healthy, and doing well. Just saw this video.....awesome. Incredible work, thank you very much.
Blair and Co do a good job. So much better than 20 years ago when solos and angle choices were a blunder. Explains why dvds cost so much too heh.
+brown55061 Don't get me going on camera shots from 83 and 84....especially 84 BD (since that's when and where I marched)
madison scouts 88 pisses me off

Me respect for the artist in the backround
My guard captain/stage manager heart is happy 😍
They showed the tenor falling down the stairs at 4:53 on camera 2 I'm dead
Yes! I still check out the 2007 one!
+Holly Maldonado That one was very entertaining to hear and watch, especially at the end, haha...
Yess i respect your hard work artist . Very hard to capture cinematography . You are great artist .
This is what I'm going to school for. I have 2yrs left in college.
Emanuel Dixson what school are you attending?
get out now.
Ass pay :( had to get out but man I loved it
That was astounding. Really talented people.
Love the intro for this video
Wow! I use 3 Cameras for my videos, but this "dance" is awesome...
camera 5 is just the cameraman from the office
Deano gives 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻!!! Understand the national situation and international situation, but hoping some brass lines are getting together and can grace us with some amazing short gigs this summer ........always looking for updates.

This was so amazing to watch.
kinda dream job to be one of the camera guys. realtalk seams like a crazy cool job!
I watched this before I went into college and I was so confused. Now while I'm in it I understand most of what is going on.
sad it took college to figure out tv basics
Bruh I'm in high school and already know this stuff
This is what I hope to do someday
That was reeeaaaalllllyyyyy cool.

+Justin Boykin They probably just wanted a zoom out shot of the control room but found in editing that they didn't have one... so they figured why not
Oh for sure. I'm not knocking the video at all. Just found it funny.
+Justin Boykin hahahaha that's great. . . funny thing is I saw the guard guy running backwards and didn't think anything of it until this comment.
I didn't notice that, that's funny!
ok this was so cool
8:25 its a ghost
Thanks guys this so nice bigup to the crew for great work done
wishing there was a video on the sound and how they mic...this was all about cameras and visual
Yes of cause
Experienced as cam op for a big art performance las year, eventhough not as big as this but for sure it's (controlled) chaotic.
Luckily that time only one person directed us, not two like they did!
Going to school for audio production and communications but sadly there's no marching band for me to play in anymore...this would be the dream job.
This is so cool to watch!!!!
god this is my dream career
I would love to do this
It's Corey! The lead TD for Fox Sports football.
so basically making a movie in the movie
+Pablo Delatorre Except you have limited attempts.
xMychal not even that, you have 1 chance. That’s why cam ops are either very secure in their job or on the cusp of being fired
Dream job
1:11 that moment when your make-up and side-eye are on point.
Thank god, that I ve only one person on the intercom that yell at me xD
Blair knows what he's doing..
THIS IS SO COOL!
This is fascinating!!!
I love it 😍😍

THE FALL ON CAMERA 2 AT 4:55
damn.
So meta... but in all seriousness, this is fascinating!
Oh I know how hard you guys work… how do you mic up a event like that in 5.1?
Always wondered what that's like
Closed-captioning gets a low grade on execution but bonus points for originality... "drum and bugle corps corps" translated to "gemma doogle whores". LOL
How bad do you have to screw up to win the $10 hanging? lol
I'm a cg op, and I'd luv to work with you guys. Production co?
Sir can you tell me how can I join
4:53 that must suck man. Check out the live cut

The camera at 830 What it’s called
It is called a Steadicam, although the guy using it looks like he needs a lot more practice
What corp was performing?
In most shots, it's the Concord Blue Devils. (DCI's all-time champion corps)
Tidbits of others as well -- esp. Carolina Crown, with their red-trimmed black costuming, and quirky asymmetrical headgear.
livecast on netflix? if pbs or espn wont pick it up?
nope they do scripted programming have zero interest in Iive events not their market their perfectly fine with original content and making bank unfortunately DCI would cost them money not make them money.
