    Hello from Greece, nice video! In this setup (Base+Rover RTK), can we collect points with the Rover being very near to a building, under balcony or vegetation? Is it necessary for the Rover to have clear visibility of the sky and the satellites OR it gets its coordinates from the Base only using radio signals ??? Thanks a lot!

    Great videos. You should contract with Emlid to prepare all of their instructional materials because their stuff is just dismal. I noticed you were using Emlid RS+ units in the last video and these are the RS2. Is there a noticeable difference between the two models when trying to establish a fix? I am currently wrestling with a pair of RS+ units that are supposed to replace the tapes and builders level that I have been using to do site measurements and stake outs.

    What a nice introduction on the setup!
    I have a question regarding disturbances. Since you have a relative position to the base station, does this allow you to have a better fix with heavy obstructions overhead? For example under an overpass or similar.

    • @RamiTamimi
      @RamiTamimi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not really, both the rover and the base are observing satellites, so if either one of them is obstructed, you will not have a fixed solution.

    Rami love your channel. I am new to surveying. I just go into the surveyors unions out in NYC. I start my CST class in October. I have a question about this particular setup I will try to make it not sound so confusing. I work for a construction company. We currently sun out all the survey work, they get the plans from the engineers and then they lay out the job site with a total station. I have a set of plans for myself and I use an automatic level to shoot grades they lay out for me. On the plans they have a section that has all known points and traverses with elevations, coordinates etc. if I were to get this particular unit you use and I set up the base station on known points, input the coordinates will I at least have the correct elevations? I know that I won’t have the layout of the job on there but at least having the elevations will help so I can walk the job site and check elevations on the road, manhole castings etc. it would be easier then setting up a level, and trying to mathematically figure out the elevations. Second question. Is there a way to import the engineers layout onto the app so I could layout a job site (drainage manholes, curb sidewalk etc) using this unit instead of a total station? Hope I didn’t confuse you.

      Depending on your location, you might find a geo-referenced point from hydrology department of your area, land survey companies near your location or a GTS benchmark. You can then use the baseline transfer to geo-reference your nearby point from the already existing geo-referenced point ( legs of transfer depend on the distance between both the points)

    • @islandsurveyor
      @islandsurveyor ปีที่แล้ว

      Good day. With these receivers, the base will not be transmitting corrections via wifi. The corrections will be transmitted via built-in uhf radio (Lo-Ra) or the internet. If the latter is used then both the base & rover will need 2 separate connections to the internet. So the short answer is no - the hotspot range will not be a limitation

    Hi Rami, I’m wondering if you can help this enthusiast understand how you find the exact coordinates for a point for the base station or a total station when needed. It seems to me many total station operations you need exact coordinates of a point and for the base station you also need exact coordinates. It seems to me it’s a bit like the chicken and the egg situation. How do you find that exact coordinates of that first point? I’m from the U.K. not the US if that changes anything.
    Thank you.

      Most governments have an open data portal or map where you can normally activate and deactivate layers, there should be all points (at least that one from the governments). Have a look for example in www data gov uk (urls do not work in yt), sometimes it also helps to go for a city data portal - or just ask a local surveyor

    I have the previous version the Reach RS plus and the only time I ever got a fixed solution. Doesn’t matter how sunny it can be. Also one of the units is faulty because it disconnects from the Bluetooth

      Hi Jonathan,
      Besides weather, different factors might affect receiving a FIX solution-for example, environmental conditions, baseline, workflow, setup, etc.
      If you have any issues with getting FIX or Bluetooth connection, feel free to contact us at support@emlid.com. We’ll try to help you.

    Awesome video! About to purchase the emlid reach RS2 system base and rover. Going to use it to position grades and elevations (cut /fill) of houses for excavation sites. ( I own a excavation company). Just wondering if you know if you can offset points, radius curves, and slope staking with reachview 3; or if I would have to get a data collection software like FieldGenius? Would I need Microsurvey software too? Would be interesting to know how far down the rabbit hole I need to go. Also, it would be nice to upload the civil engineers plans onto a project so I can survey the site.

      We are looking to do the same thing. I just pulled the trigger on 2 RS2 units and FieldGenius today. Hope your process is going well. We do sitework and road striping in Hawaii.

      @@zacbaxter We just set it up today and plan to go and shoot some points we will be excavating for a large retaining wall. It should be a good test to see if we can easy find know points once we have some for reference.

    I’m struggling to understand just one thing… How could you know the coordenate of this point that you setup your base station if you “rent or buy” the RTK just for that reason? In my case i picked up some points using a total station, so the only reason im renting an RTK GPS is to reference a materialized point that i used as a base point for the total station.
    I know that in someplaces you have a geodesic mark, a fisical mark, that has already known coordinates. But in a case that you don’t have this, can you just set up your base station anywhere you want and start yours measurements? I hope you understand my question, English is not my home language 😂 thanks for now

    What if you use only rover without base what accuracy you may get as I have seen on sites they v been using only rover to mark foundations which apparently will take you to 20 mm +/-

      Without a base, the rover acts as DGPS receiver ( thus giving you DGPS level accuracy ). To get precise millimetre level accuracy, RTK is preferred ( i.e. with a base )

    Dear Engr, I have a problem with my leica Gps GS16.first time I facing like this problem.
    My GS16 Gps giving more error in easting/northing value of a adjusted traverse by total station.
    This error increase by distance. If I measure point near (approximately 100 me.) By base receiver than I get same value. Means no error but after that if I measure points 500,800 mtrs or more far from my base station than gps error also increase.
    Can u solve my problem.
    Plzzzzzzzz
