Great review Urban Survivor! A really fair comparison of these two budget night vision devices highlighting their advantages and where improvements could be made. Just an FYI for your viewers, the Prowl can be mounted to helmets that are compatible with Wilcox G24 style mounts, Fast or bump helmets are often a fraction bigger so G24 mounts can be lose. Make sure you're getting a G24 style mount and compatible helmet to avoid any disappointment. If anyone has any further questions about the Prowl, please feel free to drop a comment below this message and we'll be happy to reply, or contact our customer service representative on our website. Thanks again for taking the time to create this awesome comparison video and all the best to you in 2024!
Thank you@@JasperIsEpic we're glad you like the look of the Prowl. We always aim to create quality budget nvgs and we're really proud of how the Prowl has turned out.
NVG 10 only has an 850nm illuminator. The problem is that is visible with the naked eye. Also in your comparison you did not tell us what setting the illuminators were at. Past level 4 the Prowl should switch to 850nm which should give more clarity at a distance.
I got myself the Prowl 3 weeks ago and I'm very satisfied with the package for that price point! I think there are a few things that could be improved with only a little or no real extra cost, but overall... hey. Also you have 2 years warranty.
I have both and i use them o. Airsoft . The prowl you cant identify a target pass 100 feet the screen on prowl is not as crisp as you see in the video is very pixalated the nightfox swift 2 is was superior then the prowl the nvg10 gives no justice in the video in person is was more crisp the image is great . The only bad thing for the nvg10 is that fov is small so not really good for close combat at less the 50 feet but it shines at 50 and above im returning my prowl because the quality you see in the screen is not good and the screen is extremely bright even when you try to lower how bright it it. Great video by the away
@UrbanSurvivor the nvg10 performs very well on combat simulation I was very impressed since is able to run with out the IR and using lunar light and the image is very nice and crisp for a low budget system I was able to spot people way over 700 feet with no problem .. now the nightfox swift 2 is a very impressive system with there new screen with 120% more led gives a nice image aswell .. night fox looks amazing when watching the video afterwards but the problem is afterwards is too late you need the system to perform good during the time of use.. on my channel I have some scenes of the night fox red in used but the swift 2 is a way better system then the red .. and nvg10 could be the best of both if was not for the small fov
I'd say that it comes down to the use case of entry level NV/DNV To me that use case is home defense when you may not want to use a white light to check for a possible threat or to record a potential defensive gun use (this is an understated use of DNV as it is essentially an action camera that also gives you an advantage). For this use, the wide FOV, no nonsense recording function, and easy to store included headstrap (the NVG10 requires a helmet, the prowl comes instead with a G24 dovetail as an optional way to mount it) makes the prowl the clear winner for that application. Something also not mentioned is that the prowl was much smoother indoors because it hits 60 fps there vs the NVG-10 capped at 30 max. As the video shows though the NVG-10 is better for outdoor use such as night fishing or possibly walking to/from a blind. Basically the prowl is good for home defense/indoor airsoft while the NVG-10 is good for outdoors The NVG-30 is really interesting which is why I preordered immediately from GNG lol It has 40 deg fov and 2k sensor so in theory it'd be a step forward from both of these Between that and the DNV-9 I am really excited about the future of digital NV
That screw in mount acutally came with the bridge kit... I have one left at the moment I can let go for $20 + Shipping. If you are interested message me at goodnitegearshop@gmail.com
I am towing and my lady surprised me and picked up some night vision goggles. 36MP Night Vision from Amazon. I appreciate the gift, but using the IR really illuminates my face when looking through them. I turned the LED settings to low, but it is still too bright. Can you guys recommend a unit that is more stealth that i can use to identify license plates clearly from a good distance?
@@UrbanSurvivor that’s great news yeah I was going to order one of the nvg10 units from you but then I saw the nvg30 unit and wanted to definitely see a few reviews of it mainly from you to see which one I would want to get depending on how the nvg30 compares to the nvg10 that will help me decide easier for sure
I bought a NVG10 recently and to say I'm impressed is an understatement.. It definitely looks 50% better than the recorded footage here. I'm surprised by how little light it needs, if any, to function in darkness. It's truly awesome. I just wish it was a true 1x.. It feels like it's 1.5x at least and I wish the FOV was higher. Neither of those recording apps will download now btw. Apple must've blocked them both.
Hello.. i am keen in getting one of the NVGs. I understand there is IR on both as most budget NVGs. Are the IR visible to human eye? I noticed some are so bad its practically a purple torchlight which defeats the purpose of stealth when hunting etc.
Both of the IR lights are invisible to the human eye on these devices. However, if you look directly at the front of the device, the IR emitter itself may have a very dim red light to it but it won't project outside the unit.
Can you see the IR illuminator's on these digital NVG's? That's the big problem I've had so far is that all the ones I've seen make it VERY easy for people with out NVG's (like in night-time airsoft matches), to spot you with the naked eye because you have a big red or purple glowing thing light on your head.
The NVG10 LCD display resolution is listed as 1920*1080p and a screen size of 0.38". The Nightfox screen size is listed as 360*360 and a 1.3" size (and a Digital sensor resolution: 1920*1080 which I thought was the screen resolution but it is not because I have looked through the Nightfox and my experience was that the screen was "very" pixellated). I understand that what you are showing in this video are recordings through the devices which have a more substantial resolution. My Question is: When looking directly in the devices, is the NVG10 LCD display as clear as it appears in the video and not as pixellated as the Nightfox screen?
I've had a lot of people tell me they really enjoy the NVG10 for looking at the night sky and star gazing so I'd defintely recommend the NVG10 for that!
is there a dif between all the dif nvg 10 brands? or is it like most other base products that companies buy n sell thier name on them? jw cuz they are the exact same size, weight n specs. just one is 260$ and one is 320$ on amazon
Yeah they are all the same item, just rebaranded as far as I know. Some may or may not include the helmet mount, which might be the difference in price you see, so be sure to check that if your interested in having that included as well.
From what I saw from marksman 802 it's more of a hobby type unit like the oneleaf NV100. It has no ability to use IR0/passive lighting only because there's only two modes; day mode and IR ON. The illuminator is also obnoxiously blocking half of your other eye, reducing situational awareness. I think the NV100 unit should be considered more simply because it uses a Sony STARVIS (1.0) sensor, which is a major improvement over conventional cmos sensors. It's intended as an optic clip on but it's at its best used standalone, and you may be able to ask oneleaf to release a head wearable version that has IR0 which would be good.
It sure didn't appear that both devices were operating at 1x... The NVG looked to be at least 2x, so I'm not sure i like the comparison regarding distance/clarity
Yeah you should be good. Just a heads up, if you need to look through a scope it's going to be tough to see with the IR turned on on the NVG30 so you might want a rail mounted IR light for optimal experience...
Yeah I think a red dot would be preferred as it would probably be much easier to work with. Also these could be paired with some of GoodNiteGears LAMs for active aiming - goodnitegearshop.com/collections/laser-aiming-modules-lams
Prowl is 2x the size---way more fatigue on neck-----i would expect Prowl to have better performance for size but ill stick with NVG for actually wear on helmet
@@UrbanSurvivor I am going to order one today. I saw a short video from one of the sellers and it looks real good. I like the new form factor and it looks like they addressed some of the issues with NVG10 - wider field of view, lagging, etc. Although I already own 2 gen3 analog NVs, I want to use this in the environment where many light sources are around. Another tool for different application.

That was one of the decision making features for me. Also, there ials a binocular version that works well
The NVG10 has 940nm when the IR says "off" and IR is actually off, when it says "On".
