Yo much appreciated! These are my first attempts at tutorials like this so thank you for the feedback. I'm like you when I look for tutorials, I just was to get to the point so I can start creating. Thx for the sub 🙌🏾
Nice demonstration of using the 404 as a live processor. Thank you. I would really love to see how easy/fast it is (or is not) to sample a sound in realtime (on stage) and make it a part of the performance.
Bruh, meeee too! I've been trying to figure out the best way to do this cuz I'm touring at the moment. The only thing I'm worried about is feedback if I have to gain up to much to hear the crowd. I'm a write this one down and try and make something tho. 🙌🏾
@@ZEALE Thank you! I play experimental music and my "crowds" are neither crowded nor loud, so I might have a better chance at working at lower gain levels. :) So, the SP404 outputs the input signal while you're sampling, right? Any way of routing that only to the headphone/cue output?
As far as I can tell, you cant record external sounds/vocals/instruments live, whilst the pattern is playing, so you would need to stop the beat. Hardly ideal, hopefully they will make it work at some stage.
Thank you! I'm just trying to make these for what I would have wanted to see when I first got into production with gear. Take away all the smoke and mirrors and just show people we can all create dope stuff
Super creative. I loved it! How do you use live vocals? I'm trying to figure out how to just play around with live vocals in and direct output out without prerecording.
Thank you! For live vocals I would personally put an EQ in the Input FX Bus and then route it to Bus 2 for playing with FX on vocals. I would keep Bus 1 assigned to the pads so you can also tweak the beat independently. Hope this helps 🙌🏾

I have a couple of questions. Do you run the microphone into the mic in, on the front of the unit? Also, is there a specific input effect you prefer for vocals? Thanks.
Yup that's correct, mic into the mic/guitar input on the front go the SPMK2. I use a XLR to quarter cable for my Shure SM58 microphone. Producing a video covering my whole process this week and also how I route all my FX in the BUS etc. Stay tuned and thanks for the questions man!
Thanks for your videos and advice. Do you know if the mic input is eq'd for vocals or do you have to EQ them through the effects ? Would be nice to not have to use any of the effects bus' for an eq on top of trying to put in new effects. Also wish there was an update where you could save your FX presets so you don't have to re-set them before every performance. Thanks.
Hi Zeale....thx for your videos!!! You made me very curious about something. From you using the Roland MC 707 & the SP-404MKII for vocals. Between these 2 from your experience, which one is the better to purchase for sound design and recording vocals? It seems that the SP-404MKII may not have the memory and clipping limitations I've heard that the MC707 has (when laying vocals). Does the SP-404MKII have the sound quality of the MC707? I like the sounds of the MC707, but I wanted to record vocals like you displayed in this video. Does the SP404MKII have a song mode and if so how many tracks for song mode? Would the solution be to midi them together? Wouldn't they midi sync perfectly being they're both Roland products? Looking foward to your insight because of your well rounded experience with both machines. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!.....Happy Holidays and Happy New Years To You!!!
Hey! Sorry for the extremely late reply. I'm not sure of the MC707 quality, as I haven't worked on one yet. There are no vocal tracks on SP but you can record directly to pads, add FX, resample, and play live. You can absolutely MIDI the two devices together though. This would give you a killer combo and more control. Hope this helps! 🙌🏾
Is the beat sample also in the patterns? When i try using various 4 bar loops with the sample there seems to be a slight pause in audio while switching to the next pattern
