A true hidden gem. The very definition of underrated. I had fun every minute with it. lots of game mechanics that started and ended with that game. The boss battles in particular were genius.
You must have played a different game. So far I'm about 3 or 4 hours in, and it's nothing but the same enemies and wave after wave after wave after wave after wave of infected, and you're doing the same throwing glaive animation for 5 minutes until finally they stop spawning. The first jackal boss is literally just using an rpg to defeat it,as with the helicopter. And with the big infected thing you just keep throwing your on fire glaive and do an animation when he is down over and over and over and over until its dead. It has been nothing but repetitive gameplay the whole way through, I love warframe, i play it very frequently, but personally this game is near crap. The only fun I have sometimes is using the slow motion to decapitate someone, and that's it. Not to mention the terrible story,I'm still incredibly confused and I'm sure I'm past halfway done.
To all of those who are wondering D3 Publisher, the publishers of dark sector(duh), wanted the game to include less sci fi elements and put an emphasis on the whole military shooter aspect. So digital extremes were forced to redevelop dark sector into the game that was eventually released. Digital extremes really disliked what dark sector turned out to be, they then through a lengthy development period came out with a game called warframe, the game dark sector was supposed to be and a pretty amazing game to boot i hope this clears up any confusion
+Almighty Legend The original concept for Dark Sector looked pretty much exactly like Warframe (with outdated graphics and animations). That concept got scrapped by the publisher for this. So yeah, this game actually technically is an old version of Warframe and is pretty much a prequel to it.
Now it all makes sense. Dark sector and Warframe are in the same world. So the Tenno are human but infected with a sort of metallic disease. And Hayden is the ancestor and the very first Tenno. This fills so many gaps that warframe had with its story.
I just watched just before this I read the lore I feel the exact same but does mean hes excalibur in proto armour because in excaliburs codex it says hes the first tenno but what we do know is tenno are humans infected with this virus able to fuse with the armour
The Common Commentator of TH-cam DE has confirmed that the two games are not related, but they do borrow heavily from dark sectors the skins are just in reference to the studio itself and do not fit into the lore in anyway.
Quite nice game. The Glaive alone was fun to use, and there were also regular firearms. The concept of Infected in different stadiums of mutation as enemies was nice. The gameplay alone was good and not too hard or too easy. It lacked backstory thou. Fun game for one or two nights to play.
this was one of my favorite games at the time. you can buy it now for only 5 to 8 dollars. if you see it used for this price, get it . it's def. worth more!!
Hayden is using Glave! EDIT: ohhhh, Hayden is actually the first Excalibur in Warframe! so now we have the proto skin + proto glave which designs are based off of this game? :3 :P
Taki Faust Tran DE has confirmed that the two games are not related, but they do borrow heavily from dark sectors the skins are just in reference to the studio itself and do not fit into the lore in anyway.
This is still my favorite review for this game, because the summary is spot on xD It's tons of fun but it's not perfect, I still have a good time playing it. They could have put some more effort into a story and given the game more stable footing, if they ever got the idea for a sequel, getting deeper into Hayden's backstory would be a must lol
This is a truly fun game. You can pick it up so cheaply on ebay or trade in places. If you see it buy it, you'll be pleased with your purchase especially at the price.
The 'after touch' feature reminds me of the secondary fire on the Razorjack of Unreal 1/Unreal: Return to Na Pali. It shoots a disc which can be controled by pointing your mouse where you want it to hit. It doesn't come back though but it does ricochet of walls like nuts in a can. Good times.
I really should find this and play this again. When this first came out I was pissed because it wasn't the "original concept" that is now known as Warframe. Now that the "original concept" is now a thing (and it's fucking amazing everybody should go download it it's free for fucks sake) I have a higher appreciation for this game because instead of treating this game separately, it's hinted that it's actually integrated into Warframes lore. That's fucking cool.

To Marker412: Yes everyone over at the Prototype forum discussed how Alex's Armor power seems like a less impressive version of the Dark Sector armor. Prototype's armor probably came from Dark Sector :P Either way who cares they're both kickass armors!

Got this game for 5 bucks having no high expectations but: the more I played it, the better it gets - best budgetgame I've played in a long while - highly underrated, I wish there would be more destruction with the glaive - but taking out enemies with the glaive in slowmo is very addictive...
As a huge Warframe fan, I feel like I need to look back at Dark Sector. A lot of Warframe came from here; Excalibur, Nyx, Glaive, the Technocyte virus, and our beloved Lotus symbol. If the Zariman was the in-universe birthplace of the Tenno, Dark Sector was the real-world birthplace.
The technocyte virus is another direct reference, being the virus that gave Hayden his powers, and being the virus that created the infested and our oh so beloved Toxic Ancients. His armor is also similiar to Excaliburs armor(as a total side note, did anyone else know that Nyx was origanaly going to be a female version of Excalubur, but then the devs crapped the idea and made our current Nyx). Also, it's implied that Hayden trained all the Tenno himself. I cant fit any more stuff.

In warframe there should be a replay able quest relating to dark sector. Like a a flashback to that time in darksector.
That's like. Thousands of years apart.
