Without the yellowish Filter this would be the best of the Dirt games. I really enjoy the Rallye tracks in Dirt 1, they are super hard but rewarding when you don't do mistakes.
Off-topic: It was bizarre to have that overbloom and oversaturated filter back in the days of the PS3 and Xbox 360. But at least in gaming, they eventually got off from it. Movies, however, have integrated a version of it, only this time it's quite orange in hue. It's almost as if they want the scenes shot practically to look exaggerated so that it's easier to blend with increasingly unrealistic-looking CGI. When the original Jurassic Park released in 1993 looks more realistic than any of the Jurassic World films, you know Hollywood has been regressing badly.
I gotta say, even though in practice I kinda don't like the piss filter, it definitely set those generation of games apart. It gave them such a distinct look that in hindsight, I am lowkey happy about it. I think this is why BF3 when the completely opposite direction when it first came out with its insanely blue filter, replicating real film cameras.
Noone is talking about audio. Remember Rapture 3D audio in Dirt 2? I think this game had it also. I am about to make a video comparing Software & Rapture 3D for PC - Dirt 2.
I'm a big fan of the CM games and so I'm glad to see you review this. I was never much of a fan of Dirt 1. I always figured that Codies pivoted away from the pure CMR games to make things more appealing in the US market, rallying isn't much of a thing in America. Whereas Dirt 1 has explicitly US events, notably Pikes Peak. Hope to see you review the rest of the CM series, I see you've already got footage for CMR3, 4 etc
Recent years, I've been using the Ben Rogues DiRT mod to remove the piss filter among a couple of other fixes, except for the simulated physics that make the game feel more like the DiRT Rally games. But yeah, I feel like this game deserves a remaster that fixes the graphics above anything else, and then it would be enough to feel like a definitive experience.
I always like seeing racing games getting remastered, but EA might not allow a remaster of this game, because even though they remastered Need For Speed Hot Pursuit and Burnout Paradise, DiRT wasn't originally published by them, and it seems the developers who make racing games under EA's ownership are in a bit of a mess and have been for a little while.
how did you find the pc port as i got a copy where it kept crashing when starting up on the first race, is the pc gamer presents version the one to get to stop crashing , many thanks if anyone can help
Dirt 2 is still my favorite Dirt game but I really like the variety of cars compared to 3 and especially 2, and I'm glad the bloom effects are far less present in its successors.
I think Dirt is actually has a few cut content, like rain. There are moments when your co-pilot says "watersplash" but there is no water at all. i guess because it caused some kind of bugs or glitches in the engine, so they removed it. Also, on rainy tracks there are no actual rain, it's just wet. And what about night time races? BTW, there is a mod for PC where you can remove the bloom effect and it's making the game look much different.
Rain and night are actually quite demanding on game engines, and with the game barley running at 30fps as it is rain and night would have made it unplayable.
Never played this one to the end. I do recall on the PC version at the least you can adjust and turn off some of the filters and make it more pleasant. Good thing is, in the future games it was toned town. Great Re-Review and good to see you back at it.

Colin McRae: Dirt (2007) is the first game to use the Neon engine, the engine that would be Ego. The next game to use the EGO engine version 1.00 is the original Grid (2008). From then on, all DiRT, Grid and F1 Games (starting with 2010) has used evolutions of the EGO game engine, a game engine so Optimized I was able to run Grid Autosport, a 2014 game, in medium graphics at 45 fps on my old college laptop with an Intel Pentium B970 processor and Intel HD Graphics from 2011!
As much as I like the second game more due to the presentation being unique from the other games in the series. The first game isn't bad at all, although the car handling gives me whiplash most of the time and the graphics are of their time. But I wish some events came back like Pikes peak and the T4 events, but that's not happening anytime soon since the Dirt games now are trying to be like Forza Horizon games and vice versa instead of being their own thing. Great video though.
Thanks. Unfortunately Codemasters aren't making another DiRT game. Now that they have the WRC license there's no need for DiRT. I can see Pikes Peak appearing in the future WRC games just to make it slightly different to what Kylotonn had been doing with the license. I don't think the T4 events will return in any future game. At least not whilst Saber Interactive are making the Dakar games.

I have reviewed CMR 3, 04 and 2005, but the quality of those reviews are not good at all. I do want to re-review them.

By Pikes Peak, I believe you were referring to Hill Climb. As in those uphill rally events with no co-driver.

I never played this game, but always kinda liked the "glowing" graphics. Similar to the first Just Cause game on the Xbox 360.
