I love Leathermans but also like to get the most for my money. I guess it also boils down to how much you want to EDC. The 711 looks awesome though. I only complain about the price. If money wasn't an issue I'd buy 3 of them on principle alone.
The Arc is basically the tool I've wanted ever since I first got the Charge TTi as my first multitool, and I'm waiting for in-stock notifications now. Do you know how often Leatherman restocks their ratchet drivers at dealers? Because those are priced out the ass aftermarket.
I just really want the spring loaded pliers. I know, I know "not as strong" and all that. But it's plenty strong for anything I would use it for, I highly doubt that I am strong enough to break it even if I tried. But I hate having to pull pliers back open or have them flop around all loose. I wonder how feasible it would be to attach magnets in such a way as to create a magnetic spring force rather than a mechanical spring.
Swapping a Garage #005 with the ARC pliers is the only way to get spring loaded on the ARC. I am not sure there is a spot where you could put two magnets to oppose each other strong enough to force the pliers apart, especially since force falls off exponentially with distance.
Do you make anything for the surge? One hand opening isn’t a big deal to me but I might get a charge tti for my edc and my surge for work but I LOVE the surge the only reason I like the ark is the magnacut steel blade
I do have a holster for the surge. It will be updated with the ratchet driver options in the upcoming weeks, but requires some prototyping. Otherwise the current model is available on my website.
I have a Charge+ Stainless... is the Arc noticeably better? I know about the Magnacut, but for the rest, is it just a slight variation of what I have, or is the Arc a significant step up?
the only problem I see with my new Arc is that when you use the tools the edges are pretty sharp. not so much with the plyers. I am compareing it to my charge +tti. the titanium on it is nicely rounded everywhere. I don't need the little tiny screw driver on either of them. I've always thought that leatherman could make a multitool that the customer could choose the tools.....revolutionary huh? lol

I also prefer the comfort of the G10 Charge+ in use so far compared to the Arc. I would 100% purchase both holsters (at least 2 -3 G10 Charge+ versions and 1 Arc) from you so I could grab and go with whichever tool I wanted/needed for that day.

Hey, Love your work! For the Arc holster i'd love the option to replace the belt loop with more bits. holding close to the full bit kit would make it the perfect tool bag organiser (p.s. if possible please let us order it in white too)
oh and one other random thing i've been thinking, it would be really cool to have a couple of holes that you can screw a spare set of wire cutters or EOD wire cutters somewhere on the sheath. Although i can imagine fitting them would be a little difficult. if i was making it i'd either try just drilling 2 holes or having 2 HEx Nut shaped holes in the body. this way you could glue the nuts in and be able to crew them in without damage to the holster.
I will be offering a version with no belt loop that holds 18 bits (I already have this for the Garage 005). White is a color option, but the material will collect dirt like a pair of sneakers. White enamel paint over white is a good option for a longer lasting color.
Great video by the way and I want to ask a question and I'm trying to decide on which multi-tool to get between the victorinox Swiss tool MX clip or the Leatherman ARC and I don't have any shops around me that carry these tools so that way I can test them out so I'm trying to get as much information as I can from knowledgeable people like yourself and in your opinion if you had a multi-tool to go with, would you go with the victorinox Swiss tool MX clip or the Leatherman ARC? And looking forward to hearing back from your input and thank you@@ZapWizard
Very nice. I really love your holsters and plan on getting one. I have the mag sheath from RAE Gear for the P4 that works with my new ARC. One thing I like about it is I can still have the pocket clip installed. Will any of your holsters allow for that option? Edit: By looking at my set up, what I would like is a holster with the main blade with the thumbstud facing the back of the holster, tip up. That allows the pocket clip to be installed, facing outwards. Is that an option that would be available?
Very good information in this video . Did you experience the issue with the cutters with yours ? And I'd really like to know if the Arc has the same issue some Free series did where the plier head kinda seizes up when put under hard load when tightening ? Cheers .
I really want an arc but I also want a sceraded blade. Is it possible to mod an arc to place one in it? I personally would replace the file with it. Your thoughts?
The only issue is the saw is 0.07" thick (so is the file), and the P4 Serrated Blade os 0.10" thick. So you would have to remove one of the thin implements on the same side (or move things around), and then add some shims to build the thickness back up.
To be honest, the only thing I would change is i would have put a t shank exchanger instead of the saw. And also added the 1/4 bit socket to the bit exchanger. It would literally be my perfect multitool.
Almost everything about your garage 5 holster is perfect for the ARC. The only thing i would like to see changed is #1 a slot for the bit extender next to the slot for the 711L ratchet driver. Unfortunately IDK if the ratchet driver slot is really viable anymore as the Leatherman ratchet driver is AWOL and people are now asking Leatherman Surge level pricing for a new Leatherman 931030 ratchet driver and the lowest ive been able to find it is around $50 and have absolutely no plans to publicly say where my source is because i don't need that well to dry out 😢.
@@ZapWizardthat would be awesome. While I can appreciate the multibit slot IMO the extender, 711L, and the ratchet driver are the big 3 accessories for the ARC outside of the obvious bits themselves and with the amount of bits your holster seems to hold in the back alone almost everyone should already have almost every one of their most commonly used bits anyways. Originally when I ordered my ARC and the #1 but kits as extras/replacements I tried finding a leather holster that would hold both the ARC and the entire bit kits as I'm more of a completely unexposed buckle cover guy myself but absolutely nothing exists that can hold the entire bit kits and a Leatherman without it being either crazy bulky or in the end being 2 separate holsters, 1 being for the Leatherman itself and the 2nd being the entire bit kit and I honestly don't mind 2 side by side or left/right hip belt holsters the added pricing to buy both and have them not look like 2 completely different manufacturers/product lines just got to be more expensive than what is now the absolute most expensive Leatherman multitool mass produced. I also appreciate that Leatherman actually spent the last 2 days updating their website listing the ARC as a compatible multitool or not with their already existing accessories they only updated that information to accessories added within the last year and completely ignored almost all of their sheaths. The entire ARC reddits are just spammed with questionable yes or no information on what sheaths fit the ARC and I don't see any of the big name aftermarket sheath makers ready and in production of anything for the ARC yet. I love that you covered the AMA content. I'd really love to know if moving forward on whatever their next product(s) they would be more open and responsive to sharing the needed specs of in development products with aftermarket or 3rd party products/accessories makers like yourself or at least larger ones. I absolutely love the development they put into the ARC but it's borderline an insult to give a cheap recycled from an older product nylon sheath with a PREMIUM level multitool. I really can't understand what their thinking process is since multitools are geared towards people working in trades and those people are often exposed to sparks and flames that can (yes it's happened to me) ignite or at least burn from exposure. While I know your 3D printed sheath runs the same risk at least with it being solid nylon fiber printing and not woven fabric sparks and small flames should roll off or be resisted long enough to avoid major disaster. I wish I could have chimed I. On the AMA that they need to offer flame retardant sheaths if they want to continue offering woven sheaths as the new norm
I am glad it doesn't have spring loaded pliers. I have been wanting a free series multitool, but I have to pay off some bills and then I am going to wait until I know the tool doesn't have issues, before buying it. I wish the P4 had a full size file, because I would have gotten that.
Supposedly the cutter inserts crack easily if you try to cut hard wire like a coat hanger. I used mine to cut .035 welding wire. No issue. But that is thinner than a coat hanger.
What degree is the blade bevel to resharpen or touch, curious,I have a Arc now, blade came pretty damn sharp, just wanted to confirm it so I can dail it in on my work sharp precision adjust sharpening system an also on the Arc,what size bit is needed to remove the thumb stud,ty
In my opinion if you are looking for a more old school leather sheath for really any multitool I have found American Benchcraft to make some of the best ones. Yours are probably some of the best "non old fashioned" sheaths
Why did you stop caring your Leatherman garage batch number 5? I would assume that it would be a much better multi-tool than the Leatherman Arc? @@ZapWizard
@@ZapWizardAnd would you rather have the Leatherman Arc or the victorinox Swiss tool MX clip? And looking forward to hearing back your input and it will be greatly helpful because I am indecided as to which multitude to get because I really wanted a Leatherman garage bath number 5 but that tool sold out in like I heard 15 minutes, lol and the only other way to get it, is on eBay and unfortunately you have people on eBay selling this multi-tool for $1,000 so my other option was the Leatherman Arc and I've thought about the victorinox swish tool MX clip which is the newer version of the larger victorinox multi-tool, while looking forward to hearing back from your input and your review was very good
@@clarkkent4608 I like the black, the blade profile is better for my uses. I thought I would miss the spring loaded pliers, but sometimes they get in the way.
@@clarkkent4608 The ARC. One handed use, customization, and Magnacut blade. (I haven't felt the need to sharpen my ARC yet, still razor sharp). I don't own the Swiss tool, it looks capable, but not one handed usable.
As far as the holster goes, how much harder would it be to design a separate belt clip that could just hold the “ bit cards” and maybe the ratchet you use and an extension
You see I have a super tool 300, a surge, blast, shell tool , and a p2. ( wish I had spent the extra and got the p4 instead.) And I use and extra pouch holder for the bits and extension instead of carrying them all on one setup.
@@ZapWizard Cool because I just bought a ST300 in black, and my old one came with a button snap sheath, this new one came with velcro. I watched your video and I think your mods are really cool. I just don't have the time to do all that. I didn't like the P series and I don't like the arc all that much either. I Think they're overpriced so I went with the tried & true ST300. I carry this thing everywhere in my pocket but I carry other stuff to so I don't want to scratch my leatherman. I don't mind normal wear 'n tear but dents and scratches bug me. I'll be receiving a custom aftermarket bit adapter that works on ball bearings to attach to the 3D Phillips head on my ST300 to use with any bit but I'll keep in touch for a holster for this beast. @@uzbeck2006 They do end up poking. I think they could have designed a better more comfortable method. For example those plastic bits, they could have molded in an alignment feature.
I thought the same! I do some 3d printing as well. I guess we "see" things like that. I'm sure you're heard that b4 but I also happy to see in your desings: problem-solution/ideation-prototyping-testing-more refining-user testing approach. And nothing extra for the sake of being just fancy. Will you redesign those bit holders?? I mean they're somewhat functional. Not most ergonomic and not at all integrated into any kind system by a lm. Hence why lm needs to hire you asap!!

Do you have any customers from Germany. My guess is that I will also need to pay VAT and customs fee, if I order holster from you when it arrives here in Germany.
Yes. It can be shipped to Germany. The parts are made by Shapeways. For international shipments the parts are made in the Netherlands. I don’t know if there is VAT though.
Probably just the magnacut steel in the blade. It’s a premium steel right now, and it’s on the hottest new leatherman so it’s gonna be expensive regardless. I should say, I have an arc. It’s really good and I like it a lot. But there are somethings I would change right off the bat. Stronger detent on the bit changer, both micro bit and standard bit, a 90° bit driver would be AWESOME. I would also love to see a way to “lock” the pliers half open so you can use it as one big long screwdriver, like you can do on most models including the Bond and Wave +. The other handle kinda floppin around during normal use is a little annoying but it still get the job done.
The holster will be available when it’s ready. Working on the CAD for it over the next few days, then ordering prototypes which takes a week or two. I expect it to take only 1 prototype for most of the options. The horizontal carry may take longer as I want to try some new ideas on that one.
Probably the reason they didn't make the scissors longer on the arc, was to keep manufacturing costs down. If you use the same scissors in every tool you grab and go verses having to make sure you have the correct scissors with the correct product.
I suggest looking at my stack-up diagrams to determine what tools are what thickness, and then you can determine from there: zapwizard.com/pages/leatherman-free-arc-stack-up-diagrams
the chose the holster they did to keep dirt and debris out. Working in construction around flying dust/dirt will annihilate the tool in the holster you have.
Got my Arc. Probably going to send it back for a refund though. Blade came ridiculously unfinished, frame flexes like an Ozark Trail when gripping a bolt or using it to turn on a broken faucet at work, and I've now seen four videos about the wire cutters breaking when cutting a wire coat hanger which is essentially fence wire (super soft. Even Gerber's garbage carbide cutters can cut fence/hanger wire). I'm definitely not impressed by this thing, which makes me sad because when I first saw it, I thought it would be perfect as a tool for my motorcycle's compact onboard tool kit (my lightweight adventure bike is a DRZ400 with limited space in the tail/saddlebags) but from my experience and what I've seen here on TH-cam, I'm afraid to trust it at home, much less in the wilderness where it could literally be the difference between riding home or pushing my bike till someone with a truck shows up which could be days if I go on rides like the Trans-America Trail. Sadly, the Arc has proven to be a waste of $230 so far. I do like your carrier designs though. Might have to grab a few for some of my other tools
Physical Vapor Deposition isn't spray paint. It is using plasma to atomize (actual atoms, not drops like paint) carbon in a vacuum. The atoms then deposit on the steel and a thickness is built up that is very pure carbon. The bond is much stronger than any solvent paint or even ceramic paint can do (Which effectively glue particles to a surface). PVD is used quite a bit in industry for example to put a hard outer coat onto kitchen faucets.
Excited for the arc holsters! Your work in incredible

i can tell! honestly you've done a great packing it all in such a small package. hats off to you sir@@ZapWizard
Yes, if you move the clip to the blade side of the tool.
Man I want that garage 5…. Gonna get a sheath as soon as I can for the Arc. That’s amazing
How well does the Garage #5 fit into the Arc Fully Armored/Partially case(s)?
The 005 won't fit due to the thicker blade. I haven't yet released a 005 armored holster.
The one bit is missing from the bit pack because it is sold in place on the tool.
Wow! You are an impressive fellow! Amazing holsters!! When I get one, please add the magnet.
@@wickius12 currently all holster sales are on hold as Shapeways (who produced them) just declared bankruptcy.
Very good information in this video . Did you experience the issue with the cutters with yours ? And I'd really like to know if the Arc has the same issue some Free series did where the plier head kinda seizes up when put under hard load when tightening ? Cheers .
The ARC does have the new cutters which have the rounded corner. I did swap out my old cutters from the P2.
I wish you could do the same work for the swisstool line!
What thoughts do you guys have about the Arc cutters breaking cutting coat hangers on various other channels?
I do think it is an issue, I use the hardwire cutters sometimes to trim the length of small screws. I traded the cutters of my P2 into the ARC.
Thanks for the video. You definitely use your gear
Are your holsters printed in house? Or outsourced? What material is it? Looks stronger than ordinary resin or filament?
Outsourced to Shapeways. They are SLS 3D printed nylon 12.
What is this magna cut blade you are talking about? What makes it special?
Just google Magna Cut Steel, It is specifically engineered for knives.
Leatherman said they've surveyed people and they always want the slimmer bits with room for an additional tool.
I will see if I can make something that fits both options.
Great video. Cant wait to snag up one of your holster, just what I've been looking for.

@@ZapWizard ,ah thank you
In my opinion if you are looking for a more old school leather sheath for really any multitool I have found American Benchcraft to make some of the best ones. Yours are probably some of the best "non old fashioned" sheaths
I do truly love some old school full grain leather. But I hate opening a snap.
@@ZapWizard yeah sometimes quick access is where its at. I love that aspect about a lot of the modern sheaths.
Zap, could I swap my magnacut blade on my arc to my p4 without any issues, size wise?
Yes. They are ~95% the same profile, but also the same 0.1" thickness.
Any thoughts on the new design for the cutters? They appear to be significantly weaker for cutting hard wire.
I took the cutters out of my P2 and put them into the ARC.
@@ZapWizard I’ll do the same if mine break but I’m hoping Leatherman will send out replacements that are stronger.
If you had to choose between stock arc or stock garage 5, what's your choice
Stock ARC for sure since I stopped carrying my Garage 005
🤙🏻 great products!
As far as the holster goes, how much harder would it be to design a separate belt clip that could just hold the “ bit cards” and maybe the ratchet you use and an extension
Instead.
This way it could be a little more flush to the body.
And work with all the leathermans
It is on my wish list to make a bit holder accessory. I already have a separate ratchet driver holster that holds six bits.
You see I have a super tool 300, a surge, blast, shell tool , and a p2. ( wish I had spent the extra and got the p4 instead.) And I use and extra pouch holder for the bits and extension instead of carrying them all on one setup.
are you able to swap blades between arc, p4 and bach 5? thx

Hi, do you have a Super Tool 300 holster?
I will in October when I get production going again.
Thank you.
I love my Ark and am looking forward your holster for it! I'm going with the ratchet holder version. Thanks for all your great work! 👍
You spelt ARC incorrectly. And the capitalization wot. Have a good day and God bless you good kind sir.
What do you think about those little notches on inside of the hanfles
The ones near the plastic/magnet? They are to align the two halves when closing.
Yes. I think we're talking same thing. I'd say ergonomic of the handles is okay but those notches are tend to poke my hands...yeah? No?

Not yet, just getting the ARC 3D model done today, then working on the Holster. Notification sign up sheet on the produce page linked in the description.

At 50% more expensive than the Surge is it really worth it? What explains such a price gap (c. $80)?
@@dingus4260 thanks for the useful comments!
When will they be available again?
The holster will be available when it’s ready. Working on the CAD for it over the next few days, then ordering prototypes which takes a week or two. I expect it to take only 1 prototype for most of the options. The horizontal carry may take longer as I want to try some new ideas on that one.
How about a Leatherman that will cut wires. 😅 I'd buy that one. It's the main reason I bought one in the first place
Probably the reason they didn't make the scissors longer on the arc, was to keep manufacturing costs down. If you use the same scissors in every tool you grab and go verses having to make sure you have the correct scissors with the correct product.
Yep, the T4 is the smallest tool that has the same scissors, I think they just kept that size.
If you only had a choice of carrying one: garage 005 or arc?
ARC. The tool set and layout is just a bit better. I also like the black over the white.
I want to swap out my micro bit holder on my arc. What tool from the free p2 or p4 can I use for a simple swap for th micro bit holder on my arc
I suggest looking at my stack-up diagrams to determine what tools are what thickness, and then you can determine from there: zapwizard.com/pages/leatherman-free-arc-stack-up-diagrams
"The barnacle bit holder" 😂
I was close to purchasing but then I saw the wire clippers breaking on soft metal like coat hangers. Now idk
I did swap out for the cutters from my older FREE P2.
Where did you get the pocket clip?
The ARC comes with a pocket clip, otherwise Leatherman sells a replacement clip that also comes with the lanyard loop.
Is the 1/4" bit holder mod you made compatible with wiha double sided bits?
The "Flat" bit driver takes Leatherman Flat bits, not 1/4" hex bits

It's not diamond like coating, DLC stands for Diamond like carbon, coating. The c is carbon
Roger that, I didn't realize.
It sounds like you might want to consider a warranty claim: that's not how the Arc is supposed to feel/perform
👍
Guess the average Leatherman owner doesn't do much electrical work
At almost NZ $600 no thank you.
Lol “physical vapor deposition” = spray paint
Physical Vapor Deposition isn't spray paint. It is using plasma to atomize (actual atoms, not drops like paint) carbon in a vacuum. The atoms then deposit on the steel and a thickness is built up that is very pure carbon. The bond is much stronger than any solvent paint or even ceramic paint can do (Which effectively glue particles to a surface). PVD is used quite a bit in industry for example to put a hard outer coat onto kitchen faucets.
Bit Kit is Leatherman's version of "Apple Tax". A crappy metal product that forces you to buy an entire bit kit. Trash!
The Arc is not worth it
Lol
