Great remake that brings the horror without dumbing it down to cheap scares. Gorefest at the highest level with such a dreadful atmosphere. I was worried when it got released as remakes often soil reputations but this lived up to the hype. Directed by Fede Alvarez who also did Don't Breathe with Jane Levy as well, another great movie.
I have to say all these years later I haven't seen a final girl like Mia, she played the druggie, the villain, the victim, the survivor and the final girl ❤
The closest I have seen is Mia from the Resident Evil 7 videogame, who is based on her character. She doesn't become the heroine, but you do get to play as her.
Pretty sure this movie holds the world record for the most amount of fake blood ever used in a film. They used over 70,000 gallons. It's quite literally the bloodiest movie ever!

Ash (Bruce Campbell) started the whole Evil Dead series. He starred in the original Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, and TV series Ash vs the Evil Dead. Definitely check those out!
Fun Fact: There were two different endings where Mia was picked up from the road. One ending in particular was where the driver was revealed to be Ash from the previous trilogy.

Not to mention that sing-along that was cut from the film. Literally gave me the chills as a kid. "We're gonna get you.... Not another peep... Time to go to sleep" 😈
"we have.. to get... out of here. Now." is perhaps the single most terrified moment of acting I've ever seen, except for maybe some war movies. No one ever acts this believably anxious and scared in supernatural horror movies.
Jane Levy is phenomenal. I feel so bad for Mia cuz her friends and brother are morons. They really thought it was a panic attack when she blew out the window and changed her voice?!

Then he asked if I had heard of them, and said “Iron Maiden”. I had the same reaction. Second, Bruce Campbell is pretty well known, Evil Dead and Ash Vs. Evil Dead aren’t the only things he’s done. He’s also in the fairly newly released Evil Dead game. But mostly, it was just a joke.

The guy at the end is Ash, the hero of the original series. He's one of the most iconic protagonists in history. Fun fact - viewers originally thought Mia's brother would be the new Ash, because he's dressed similarly. Instead it ends up being Mia who fulfills that role.

I love when people go into watching this movie not knowing what to expect. I mean, even some reactors who saw the original two have no idea just how far this version is gonna go with the practical effects and buckets of blood. I gotta give Nikki and Steven alot of credit for sitting through and watching one of my favorite horror movies ever. There are quite a few people that couldn't finish the whole movie. The raining blood scene is stunning and epic, I want a poster of it. Fedi Alvarez did a phenomenal job directing this. Mia is a beast and one of the best final girls ever. Happy Halloween y'all. 🎃🎃
No she’s not she hood but not even close to the best or one of the best just my opinion I think sienna from Terrifier 2 had a more difficult time with the villain than she did in this movie and she’s also acts better than Mia in this movie sienna is the best fI so girl since the Jamie lee era and Sydney Prescott era and if you don’t belong watch Terrifier 2 it’s a great movie not for the faint of heart tho but if you like this movies and it’s practical effects you’ll appreciate Terrifier 2 it’s making headlines and sirens is being called one of the best horror girls ever. And art is being called one of the greatest horror villains ever created

No joke, this is my favorite horror movie. I never got that into the original Evil Deads because they were too campy for my taste, but no other movie has satisfied my love for good, brutal bloodletting like this film. And that ending shot of her killing the demon in front of the cabin is one of the most gorgeously violent endings I've ever seen. Freaking love it!

The original is from 1981 and it is - without a doubt - one of the all time horror classics. It kinda started the full body gore genre of the 80s. And the little cabin in this move had been shown in a ton of horror movies since. The new version of 2013 is a very good remake (just my personal opinion), because it reinvented the story but kept some of the most outstanding scenes. A good horror sequel that stays true to the original, without becoming a cheep copy is quite rare. Oh well, we had Hellraiser 2022. That one rocks, as well 😉
The first movie was a student film with barely any money to make it with... But once it got a bit of a following, they got some more cash to remake the original. So, I think ED2 is a great starting place. I prefer the clasic movies, ED2 & ED3, mainly because I was watching those movies a long time before seeing the 2013 version. I do like the new one, but Bruce as Ash, & all the hilarious chaos, is just so much more fun. 🤣 Btw, the sequel to this movie is coming next year, & Bruce Campbell is coming back as Ash, chainsaw-arm included! Gotta love Sam Raimi...He may have gone mainstream, but he still knows how to be creepy! 🤘😁
Evil Dead 2 will be forever my favorite of the franchise, but I really love the remake, for completely different reasons, and that's a good thing. Normally, a remake will just try to copy the original (and this particular it would've been nigh impossible to replicate the dark humour, so I'm glad they didn't even try) and fail miserably, but this one - as you said - did it's own thing while staying true to some of the staples of the franchise. The dead serious tone, the excessive gore and brutality, the twist with Mia, the whole "going cold turkey subplot addition, it all contributes to making this iteration unique and a fun watch. It's not perfect, I have issues with it (the whole 5 souls thing, the needless intro that gives away too much and leaves you to wonder why the f*ck they would leave the book there, the necronomicon having English footnotes and warnings, some characters being underdevelopped, etc.) but I can look pass them and thoroughly enjoy this movie still.
As a fellow uruguayan I'm so happy for Fede Álvarez, he's an awesome person and the fact that this was his debut film, on another country and language will always impress me

Oh no they were idiots long before that. They went to a cabin deep in the woods with a girl who needs to be near a hospital, saw blood on the ground and dead cats and STILL stayed. The problem isn't that Mia wasn't believed because of her withdrawal. It was because they are the dumbest horror characters in the history of horror films. Oh and they brought a dog. You know who didn't bring a dog? The original characters! Sorry rant over.

And find a place near a hospital if you wanna help a victim of addiction. Poor Mia would have been dead by the end of that time if the demons didn't show up. Always gives me major anxiety to watch the bury alive scene cause the actor actually buried her alive and was on a time schedule to unbury her before the actress suffocated. Like. Crazy. Also the peeing scene was real too.

When I saw this in theaters with my friend, one couple left after the possession (violation!) scene, another left after Olivia cut her face, and the next one left when Natalie chopped her arm off. I have never seen people leave a theater like that, haha. Great reaction from Nikki. I always love when she's like, "You'll never catch me going in there!! Hell no! Bitch! Noooo!" You know you're in for a good time, haha.

Love this movie. This is one of the great examples of a reboot/remake done right. I remember alot of Evil Dead fans dismissed it because Ash (main character of the original series) wasn't in it.
At the end that was Ash Williams from the original evil Dead movies. Groovy is one of many of his catch phrases. The first evil Dead was straight horror, the second evil Dead was more horror comedy and the third was Army of Darkness was an adventure horror comedy.

For those who might not know, Bruce Campbell (saying "Groovy" at the end) is an icon in the trilogy of in Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987) and The Army of Darkness (1992). His character is resurrected in the series "Ash versus Evil Dead" (2015-2018) which is very well done and hilarious.

Love this movie! That's how you do a remake. Don't get me wrong, I love the original Evial Dead triloy, but doing a remake by removing the goofy slapstick humor and doubling down on the creepy horror and gore of it all instead was the right call. The lighting and cinematography are great too. And let me just say this: a simple dress combined with combat boots is an awesome outfit. Jane Levy really rocks that look!

Eric was my favorite character this movie. Yes he started it, but he didn't know what would happen. When shit went down he smartened up and tried to stop it and took the most damage and still went out like a G.
I saw this movie in theaters when it came out, and it was the scariest thing I'd ever seen. I sweat through my t-shirt and froze my ass off going outside afterwards. One of the best theater experiences I've ever had 😂 and probably what got me hooked on horror movies.

The new red band trailer is EPIC of Evil Dead Rise and y'all should react to it together. Also, watch the original as well. Sam Raimi is a freaking directing genius!
I am a fan of this IP and 'Evil Dead 1', of which this is a reboot, scared the hell out of me for years. 'Evil Dead 2' is one of my favorite movies of all time and I have followed the series over the years (even saw the musical and got splashed w/blood). So I had a pretty high bar when I went into the theatre to see this and I was blown away. This was just about everything I could have wanted it to be and I walked out feeling very good about my experience. As good as one can be after watching 90 minutes of bloody dismemberment.
I grew up on the original Evil Dead movies back in the day and I've seen this movie around when it came out. Now I'm asking myself after seeing your reaction "holy crap how do I not remember this movie being as nasty as it is!?!?!?"

This movie was the catalyst for relaunching Bruce Campbell's horror career. The cameo at the end was cherry on top.

No joke, this is my favorite horror movie. I never got that into the original Evil Deads because they were too campy for my taste, but no other movie has satisfied my love for good, brutal bloodletting like this film. And that ending shot of her killing the demon in front of the cabin is one of the most gorgeously violent endings I've ever seen. Freaking love it!
They were definitely "Campy" but at that time they kicked ass.....

The original is from 1981 and it is - without a doubt - one of the all time horror classics.
It kinda started the full body gore genre of the 80s.
And the little cabin in this move had been shown in a ton of horror movies since.
The new version of 2013 is a very good remake (just my personal opinion), because it reinvented the story but kept some of the most outstanding scenes.
A good horror sequel that stays true to the original, without becoming a cheep copy is quite rare.
Oh well, we had Hellraiser 2022.

The first movie was a student film with barely any money to make it with...
But once it got a bit of a following, they got some more cash to remake the original. So, I think ED2 is a great starting place.
I prefer the clasic movies, ED2 & ED3, mainly because I was watching those movies a long time before seeing the 2013 version. I do like the new one, but Bruce as Ash, & all the hilarious chaos, is just so much more fun. 🤣
Btw, the sequel to this movie is coming next year, & Bruce Campbell is coming back as Ash, chainsaw-arm included! Gotta love Sam Raimi...He may have gone mainstream, but he still knows how to be creepy! 🤘😁
Evil Dead 2 will be forever my favorite of the franchise, but I really love the remake, for completely different reasons, and that's a good thing. Normally, a remake will just try to copy the original (and this particular it would've been nigh impossible to replicate the dark humour, so I'm glad they didn't even try) and fail miserably, but this one - as you said - did it's own thing while staying true to some of the staples of the franchise. The dead serious tone, the excessive gore and brutality, the twist with Mia, the whole "going cold turkey subplot addition, it all contributes to making this iteration unique and a fun watch. It's not perfect, I have issues with it (the whole 5 souls thing, the needless intro that gives away too much and leaves you to wonder why the f*ck they would leave the book there, the necronomicon having English footnotes and warnings, some characters being underdevelopped, etc.) but I can look pass them and thoroughly enjoy this movie still.
The original are the best specially with Bruce Campbell the tv is pretty decent too

Oh no they were idiots long before that. They went to a cabin deep in the woods with a girl who needs to be near a hospital, saw blood on the ground and dead cats and STILL stayed. The problem isn't that Mia wasn't believed because of her withdrawal. It was because they are the dumbest horror characters in the history of horror films. Oh and they brought a dog. You know who didn't bring a dog? The original characters!

No way! One of my all time favorite horror films right here, this one is True to what Horror is and a absolute nightmare of a rollercoaster.
Always gives me major anxiety to watch the bury alive scene cause the actor actually buried her alive and was on a time schedule to unbury her before the actress suffocated. Like. Crazy.
Also the peeing scene was real too.

When I saw this in theaters with my friend, one couple left after the possession (violation!) scene, another left after Olivia cut her face, and the next one left when Natalie chopped her arm off. I have never seen people leave a theater like that, haha. Great reaction from Nikki. I always love when she's like, "You'll never catch me going in there!! Hell no! Bitch! Noooo!" You know you're in for a good time, haha.

Love this movie. This is one of the great examples of a reboot/remake done right. I remember alot of Evil Dead fans dismissed it because Ash (main character of the original series) wasn't in it.
At the end that was Ash Williams from the original evil Dead movies. Groovy is one of many of his catch phrases. The first evil Dead was straight horror, the second evil Dead was more horror comedy and the third was Army of Darkness was an adventure horror comedy.
I hope they get a chance to watch cuz the severed hand scene in those movies? Epic.

For those who might not know, Bruce Campbell (saying "Groovy" at the end) is an icon in the trilogy of in Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987) and The Army of Darkness (1992). His character is resurrected in the series "Ash versus Evil Dead" (2015-2018) which is very well done and hilarious.
Hes so iconic, it's hard for me to believe that people today dont know about him. When I was young, in the early 90's, everyone knew about The Evil Dead and Bruce Campbell.

Love this movie! That's how you do a remake. Don't get me wrong, I love the original Evial Dead triloy, but doing a remake by removing the goofy slapstick humor and doubling down on the creepy horror and gore of it all instead was the right call. The lighting and cinematography are great too. And let me just say this: a simple dress combined with combat boots is an awesome outfit. Jane Levy really rocks that look!

Eric was my favorite character this movie. Yes he started it, but he didn't know what would happen. When shit went down he smartened up and tried to stop it and took the most damage and still went out like a G.

I saw this movie in theaters when it came out, and it was the scariest thing I'd ever seen. I sweat through my t-shirt and froze my ass off going outside afterwards. One of the best theater experiences I've ever had 😂 and probably what got me hooked on horror movies.

I am a fan of this IP and 'Evil Dead 1', of which this is a reboot, scared the hell out of me for years. 'Evil Dead 2' is one of my favorite movies of all time and I have followed the series over the years (even saw the musical and got splashed w/blood). So I had a pretty high bar when I went into the theatre to see this and I was blown away. This was just about everything I could have wanted it to be and I walked out feeling very good about my experience. As good as one can be after watching 90 minutes of bloody dismemberment.
