@@archdruidanban6537 Ah, the original ending was redone for the US market because audiences didn't like the downer ending of her still trapped in t he cave.
@Cian McGuinness Now that one I never saw.
Not to mention the original ending brings the title of the film full-circle: the story isn't just about their descent into the caves, but Sarah's descent into madness.

I love Nikki's take on the film, that it is a home invasion story. Similar to when people get upset they were attacked by a shark or a lion. You're in their home! What do you expect them to do?
foreal lmao. what gets me is humans not wanting to share the earth with animals.. they get upset about wildlife all the time like bish they were here first! i saw someone complaining about wildlift in a construction zone, like???? you're literally taking their land, no shit theyre gonna show up
Well no, its pretty rare for someone to be in a sharks home, or a lion den
@@liamwarner5749 Awful people. I see it all the time online. They should have never shot Harambe
@@josephg.1.130 Rarely in a sharks home? THATS THE OCEAN!!
@@josephg.1.130 People swim in the ocean literally all the time. I don't know what you're talking about - people spend hours per day in shark's homes.
Honestly, the fact that there are as few shark deaths as there are (especially given we splash around like distressed prey) just goes to show how utterly non-dangerous sharks are. Because there are many land carnivores that would kill far more people if they spent that amount of time in their territory.
In case people didn't catch - They found those ancient paintings on the cave wall which leads us to believe they were once human that evolved into a race of cave-dwelling humanoids who have adapted to near-constant darkness and lost any previous trace of humanity they may of had, becoming monsters in the process. Lol neat 👍

The Descent is one of the most underrated horror movies out there. When people ask me what movies I recommend for horror films that they haven't seen, The Descent is always on the list. So many people haven't seen or even heard of it which is so sad. early 2000's were actually some of my favourite years for horror films.

Next door neighbours:I'm calling to report domestic abuse...someone hitting their spouses repeatedly and yelling "bitch!"
Lol, I kid. I know that's usually what she does. XD
The Crawlers are hidden in a lot of scenes when they're travelling through the caves. As Juno is talking about the new cave system and the light plays over a shelf, you can see one of the Crawler's hanging around up there just out of sight, though its gone when the light passes the same spot again. The scene with night vision was actually the first time the actresses saw the monsters, so the shock was real.
I see you watched the theatrical cut. The real ending reveals it was just a dream and she sees that hallucination of her daughter again, only we see that the exit is a dead end and she's hallucinating as the sounds of the Crawlers approach. Way better than the ghost fakeout, whatever the hell THAT was!
Just a theory, but the Crawlers might have been cave men who just never evolved and became feral creatures over time(if those cave paintings are any indicator.)
There's the flashlight scene for one of the actresses.
All of the interior cave settings you see were built at Pinewood Studios in London, England. Pretty amazing work tbh! Also, the cabin is actually one single cabin. They just redressed it for each scene and shot it from different angles to give the impression that there were multiple cabins.
I love that you guys had no idea about the cave monsters before hand. I also love Nikki's "Uh-uh! This is their house!" rant. Too damn funny. Love your horror reactions. They are my favorite. Can't wait for October 2022 now.
Yo, that flashlight scene where they show one for the first time is dope as heck.
The original ending shows the climb up and the driving away in the car is all in her head and she’s actually still in the caves hiding from the crawlers. She sees her daughter with cake and that’s how you know she will never truly escape her past or her new home.
This is one of the best horror movies made in modern times!! Really enjoyed the reaction 😁
That was the best ending. I could imagine Sarah becoming a crawler eventually too.
Poor girl having PTSD and mental illness stuck in that cave alone. She would have ended up a cannibal eating her friends.
Take a shot everytime Nikki says "oh bitch" you're be gone in 2 minutes LOL
and everytime Steven say "This is intense"
And every time Nikki hits Steve's arm.
Man, people dying that early in the movie, after finding out one of them is cheating? That escalated quickly 😅
The thing I find most interesting is even without the creatures in the movie, the characters going into those caves and doing stuff is SCARY enough!
yes! holy shit, spelunking is terrifying. have you ever heard of the nutty putty cave incident? bone deep chill every time i think about that, it haunts me.

Man I wish you guys had seen this on a huge screen in a dark theater. I saw it in a packed theater and the experience was insane. Screaming and jumping throughout.
I watched it in a dark room, on a big TV & I was jumping & screaming throughout!😂
The first time I saw this was on Halloween night! Alone! With my surround system on! Talk about a great Halloween!!!
This reaction is a PERFECT example of why it’s best for reactors to go in as blind as possible.
There are 2 different endings to this movie. You guys watched the US release which was changed because the original UK ending was deemed to "dark". I won't give spoilers, if people want to know the original ending they can Google it. Personally I think the " dark" ending was much better and they needlessly edited it out.
I like this ending - probably because I saw it this way first. But I appreciate the extended ending too. I guess this is one of the few “multiple versions” movies where I’m torn!
I think they wanted to make a sequel. The original would have ended there.
@@h.c4898 they did make a sequel

Might be unpopular but I actually prefer this US version of an ending. When Sarah finally gets out and takes a huge breath, the audience does too. This was a fun ride but it was also a claustrophobic, revolting, dirty, chaotic mess which is why it is so satisfying to watch someone escape. The cleansing afterwards is just as sweet as the thrills that preceeded it.
so so glad you're reacting to this, probably in my top 3 favorite horror movies ever. absolutely unreal atmosphere/soundtrack.
Also the original end of the movie after the Juno jump scare she wakes up in the cave staring at the torch she made seeing a birthday cake and her daughter. They cut that part out to make part 2. The descent can mean too things the descent into darkness or my favorite the descent into madness. This is my favorite movie ever!!!!
Neil Marshal's best film and one of the best of the 2000's.
The athmosphere and the monsters as well as the tension in the group is just top class.
5:40 "I feel like those words are going to come back and bite them." Yeah,..kind of in a Literal sense there Steven. The Descent is as much a psychological plummet as a physical one. Every character seems to be reduced to their 'primal' selves.
I’ve seen other reactions with you guys and people would make remarks about Steven’s arm and I didn’t quite understand. Now I get it.
The atmosphere of this movie is incredible, you're already shitting your pants before you get any notion that those creatures are in it. And the cinematography is fantastic as well, that whole scene where Sarah is in that room with the blood pool and the only light source in the room is her torch is brilliant
I love Niki's reactions, she's so animated and is so quoteable.
"Biiitch"
20:50 the lowkey sass in steven's tone of voice here was so funny LOL
The way he said "makes sense", LOL
My precious
Lol I replayed it probably 6 or 7 times
I lost count of movies I've seen for couple of decades (especially the horror ones) and this is by far one of the best horrors I have ever watched. The bond and interaction between characters feels natural and believable. You do actually believe what you're watching.
curious: how many theaters has nikki gotten you thrown out of?
another one similar to this worth seeing is "The Ruins", a 2008 horror film
Nah. I luv watching OVER-re-ACTORS !
@@ennesshay5040 These OVER-Reactors are annoying as hell.
lol 😆
I'm so glad you've seen this movie! It was a HUGE revelation for me, at a time I thought there wouldn't be great monster movies anymore! I think all the adventure movies I'd loved as a kid could have been horror movies all along if any character made a bad decision like going to an unexplored cave, dropping a map, or not being honest with friends about everything. The script is strong, the PTSD and Trauma Reactions are excellent, the practical effects and just a ridiculously great team of actors make it BRILLIANT. It took me two or three watches to feel bad for Juno, but I really do by now. Not because of the loss of her lover, but because she messed up, then she couldn't show her grief, then wrecked her friends with her big reunion gesture... It's a tragedy for all the girls, all around.
Don't knock caving until you've tried it. You'd be amazed how beautiful and alien the underground world looks.
My experience with spelunking is fairly limited, but it is pretty awesome.
The Descent was directed by Neil Marshall -- if you would like to see more great Neil Marshall stuff, check out DOG SOLDIERS. It is an excellent movie!!! I highly recommend it.
legendary warewolf classic 👍😁
No one is prepared for how brutal this movie can be
I was.....
Lol, no, fucking with you. I was not.
For all the caves scenes they only made one set in a studio but they just rearranged all the caves and rubble for the different locations.
OMG Nikki, the "home invasion" point of view that you had made me chuckle for ten minutes straight. Great reaction guys!
"It's Gollum! He's got the ring!" 😂😂😂
The Uncut version of The Descent, which doesn't go for a happy ending, is one of my all-time favorite horror movies. Loved every minute of this reaction video.
This was a happy ending? Lol, jumpscare fake ghost...
The way Nikki always beats him up and then grabs his arm for dear life is everything!
A few years ago I convinced a bunch of friends to watch this movie the night before we were going exploring some caves with another group. they would never admit it but they were nervous as hell the next morning 😂
in the original ending when she escapes in the car a creature shows up nest to her instead of Juno's ghost, but that was only a dream and then she wakes up still in the cave, hallucinating about her daughter. This gives way to a very fun fan theory, saying that there were never any monsters, only Sarah going mad and killing her friends and we see the movie from her perspective, hallucinating the creatures.
Me and husband watched this when it hit the theater. I remember we were SO freaked out afterwards..lol
This film was directed by Neil Marshall, who directed two great episode nines of Game of Thrones - Blackwater and The Watchers On The Wall.
and several Black Sails episodes
@@adiwild oh yeah that's right. Forgot he did the pilot episode. Not sure what others he did.
28:27 That caught me off guard. lmao
Nikki ranting about the group coming and inserting themselves into the creatures habitat is just AMAZING 🤣🤣🤣
This is definitely one of my favorite horror movies. Especially with the Unrated ending (regular ending internationally). I'd never go spelunking ever...the first half of the movie before the monsters was possibly even more terrifying for me. I'm definitely claustrophobic. Wandering around in the dark with no map even without creepy monsters...as Nikki would say "fuck that".
Jesus I love most of the shows you watch and now this movie? Amazing.
Sucks that you didn't get the halllucination ending. That moment where I realized Sarah was actually still alone, way deep down in the cave far away from the exit with the creatures surrounding her really gave a feeling of hopelessness.
Just had to do the jumpscare ending, lol. Lazy US version...
Whenever I watch monster movies, I always root for the monsters. The monsters are usually some ancient creature in there own habitat, in the middle of nowhere, minding there own business not bothering anyone, until some dumb humans go messing with them. 🙂
As mentioned, you guys unfortunately watched the altered/edited version. The original ending is WAY more powerful and continues for a couple more minutes. For some dumb reason the studio decided to edit it out and end on the jump scare for the US release. I highly recommend seeing it as intended. Has a much better impact/meaning.
Fun Fact: There are endangered giant cave butterflies that defend themselves. By cocooning a flight form around any loud unusual sound in their caves. Their wings cut as many small paper cuts on one's person. Plus relatives to fireflies, the butterfly that looks like a deadleaf, swallow tailed butterflies, and Luna moths. There was a Emperor at loved these Cave Butterflies whole hardy that he named Chokeshi them ( they are the same colors of cave that glimmer white to look bigger) to which stories of these beauties are misunderstood with fear, and also his love for Coqui frogs that can sing two or three miles away that can break thin glass by voice alone. Both of these animals live in Puerto Rico but now in Japan as well for the Emperor was a collector for weird to exotic endangered species.
Nikki “give her the people’s elbow!” 😆😆😆😆
I choked on my water 😂
Omg so sad yous didn't catch the original ending where Sarah's escape is a hallucination... But love this reaction so much! Brightened up my very sad night. 💖💖

She got me with that 🤣🤣
Been caving like this and it was so scary, and we didn't know what we were in for. A bunch of novices with 2 guides in Waipu New Zealand. We had to crawl like worms on our stomachs at times in cramped long stretches, we could hardly lift our heads as the helmet light would hit the top...also we had to absail twice down waterfalls underground and finally had to swim out under water due to flooding...horrified. It was the best feeling ever coming up out of the ground in a field. So thankful and happy to be out. Never knew I had claustrophobia until that day...4 hours underground felt like eternity. Lol
Folks like to say 'juno sucks'. But when the monsters came she stepped up. It was written for you not to like her, but she was the toughest person really. That's why I liked the original ending, none of these ladies were perfect. Sarah took out Juno, so I liked the fact she suffered for it in still being in the caves, they both could have made it out.
Juno literally got all her friends killed by taking them without their consent to an uncharted cave with no rescue arrangements in place, slept with her friends husband and walked away from Beth and left her to die alone. I think being left as bait was a fair ending for her.
😉 Just my take on her, nah you're right though she doesn't objectively suck anymore than Sarah. But subjectively, I cheered when Sarah put that thing through her leg lol
I didnt agree with Juno sleeping with her friends husband but I liked her the most and Sarah the least. Also they use to go cave exploring. So I dont blame Juno for anyone dying because she couldnt have known of the creatures. And I dont blame her for beth. In my opinion beth was kinda stupid....she walked up on her not saying anything after juno was attacked by the creatures.
Many people hate on juno when really I actually wanted her to live, ik she brought them to a different cave without them knowing, but i thought her motive was kinda nice, though she should’ve taken full responsibility, and beths death was nobodys fault but beths, and out of them all juno seemed to care for all of them the most, she chased after holly when she thought she saw daylight and tried warning her, she wanted to name the cave after sarah, she fought the crawlers for holly’s dead body, she saved rebecca and sam and refused to leave until they found sarah, though i hate what she did with sarahs husband, she didnt deserve the fate that she got in my opinion, though ig sarah didnt know it was an accident that juno hurt beth.

I love cave tours and I’ve been spelunking once. It was guided but through parts of the cave that were not lit and no artificial walkways had been put in. We were crawling through passages on our bellies, tip toeing along tiny ledges over deep chasms. The most frightening and exhilarating thing I’ve ever done. And once was enough.

As soon as i saw the title I thought, RIP Steven's arm
Nothing like a classic Creature Feature. Love a good Monster movie. And yes the Cave you see them in is a giant set. They even reused pieces to make it look like they were in different parts of the cave the deeper they go. Great reaction.✌
I found out in caves it can be the opposite. Sound may not travel as far as you think with the turns and depths of the turns ect. You could easily get lost in the pitch black ness and if you get lost from a group even though your close by if your in far enough and there's some turns you voice won't be heard. I was listening to cave explores ect xD even if your yelling. The sound may not travel far enough. O.o I could 100% be remembering what I was watching wrongly but I'm pretty sure that is along the lines of it xD great movie btw! One of my faves!
There's two different endings. One where she gets out and the other her getting out was a dream and she wakes up in the cave still. Personally I like the version where she gets out because she had been through so much lmao. She deserved to live at that point. Losing her family, losing her friends, Juno murking the one friend she seemed closest to 😂 Juno ruined that woman's entire life.
“She deserved to live at that point.”
“Deserved” has got nothing to do with it. 😉
