    Wow! This game looks really innovative to me. As someone really into cozy games right now and grew up on turn-based RPGs...this looks like the perfect blend. I especially love the sound of the time-based initiative in battle...reminds me of the board game Red November (which is the coolest mechanic I've ever seen in a board game!).

      It was definitely my favorite part of the game, if only because it's not something I'd seen before. It takes a lot to surprise me in an RPG these days, so I'm glad someone else is interested!

    Boy, there seems to be lots to do in this great-looking game, for better or worse. The combat mechanics seem satisfyingly deep, too.
    Cozy RPGs-I didn’t even know this was a thing! Showing my age! Great video, Joe-engaging presentation as usual!

      Thank you!! Yeah evidently the "cozy" category has blown up in the last few years, and I have no issue with that. Not all games have to be stressful!

    The game community online (like most bad vibes being spread online) is really wrong with how they view games and "copycatting". Are artists copycats for drawing the human figure? They didnt design humans. They're copying! It's the same for video games. Nothing is retro or outdated. It simply is.

    • @SayItIsntJoe
      @SayItIsntJoe  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cbpostservice that's a fair assessment, I agree with you. It's pretty easy to throw a term out there like copycat and not think about the context within the broader game development category. What I'm referring to in this video is more the quick, clearly not highly developed stardew copies I'm sure you've seen out there. Like literally none of the love that went into stardew, just a photocopy of the aesthetics and a 99 cent price tag. I think it's fair to say that a lot of coat tail riding happened when stardew made Cozy gaming such a massive category, but there are absolutely artists who were genuinely inspired and made great games afterward. I certainly didn't mean to conflate the two here.

      No and yes but mostly no. I agree 100% but innovation is still good

      @@SayItIsntJoe I'm glad you can agree and I can also understand your perspective. But as someone who is struggling to make a game at all, I wonder if people who make these "photocopy"s that you mention are just using inspiration from a game that they enjoyed and trying to finish a project. Maybe it's not the greatest result but it's up to them to call it finished or not whether it's great or terrible. Doing a project like that could just be for practice. They might even be overpricing by mistake, simply amateurs. So our feedback can be important to them. I think many great companies and games out there may get started just by doing those cruddy copies. I appreciate your reply. I've been changing my views on this topic over time and the experience through conversations like this also helps me. And the game reviewed here in your video looks interesting so thanks for sharing!

      @@cbpostservice I want to be clear, what I was referring to is 100% not someone trying out for the first time, or being inspired and getting real close to the original. I respect any kind of effort in gaming, that's why I started doing indie reviews - so I can support small dev studios. I'm talking about the ones I've seen that are almost literal copies, they're from studios that push copies like this out all the time and they don't even bother to add a story, it's just a pixel game with farming, fishing, and a mine and call it done. That's straight copycatting and that's what I'm referring to. I have made my own efforts in game design before, and like I said I respect the hell out of anyone who works to make anything really, as long as it's genuine. So I hope that helps, I support you.

    How many hours is the gameplay? I think you forgot to mention the main story/ gameplay's length.
    I think I'll play this as well because of your review.

    • @SayItIsntJoe
      @SayItIsntJoe  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ianbuenav I have about 7 hours of gameplay, so I'd say that's a reasonable amount of time to get through it. But I did kind of blitz through the game so I'd say you could easily get 10 or more hours of gameplay out of it. And there's a lot you can do after you finish the game, technically, so it could be more than that!

    • @ianbuenav
      @ianbuenav 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @SayItIsntJoe oh so its a really short game.

    • @SayItIsntJoe
      @SayItIsntJoe  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ianbuenav Yeah I mean it's definitely not the longest I've ever played, that's for sure. But like I said, I played it pretty quickly (I usually do with games for reviews). There were plenty of things left that I could have explored, powers/abilities to collect, and there's a whole building element after you complete the story that I didn't try. But it's no Final Fantasy in terms of length.

    Man, this game seems to draw inspiration from a large number of different games- the fastforward and elemental "breaking" system that opens enemies up to BIG DAMAGE reminds me of Octopath Traveler, the leveling system only working when you rest at an in and cooking giving you statbonuses is out of Final Fantasy XV... but the vibes, graphics and story about resource scarcity and what sounds like an ecologic colapse-scenario feels really out of the 90's JRPG-book. A blend of old-fashioned and modern that actually sounds like it cones together to make a greater whole, and that takes some serious skill. Even has a Breath of Fire V-like town building mini-game! Yeah, I'm definitely gonna buy this... though a question. Which format did you play it on? Do you know if one format has better or worse performance than another?

    • @SayItIsntJoe
      @SayItIsntJoe  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @goranisacson2502 all absolutely great points!! I played it on Steam, with an Xbox controller. I did also look at some gameplay from Switch, and it seemed really smooth. Platforms like PS5 and Xbox most likely vet games like this first too, so I'm sure they're all perfectly playable. I haven't heard any real complaints on any platform. I hope you enjoy it!

    Quite frankly.. the combat is the only decent thing.
    The rest of the systems are too much fluff that take away from what is actually fun.

      I do think they tried to cater to too many audiences at once, that's fair to say. For an indie I got enough out of it to give it a good score though
