Another good one Wayne I've been coming to Chiangmai for 13 years and have never been to Santitam couldn't get my bearings from your vid but will have a look very soon, I'll be back in September while your touring the north
Great video Wayne and thanks for stopping by for a green tea so we could meet the ladies. Think you should do this more often -include us when you interact with the locals. Cheers!
The lady at Small Talk actually owns the restaurant next door, with her husband. When I arrived in Santitham, in 2010 it was a great bar, Lek's Corner, with live music most nights. It became a restaurant a few years ago, I think because of noise complaints from the temple next door. Santitham is a great place to live. You have only scratched the surface but covered Cafe de Sot well too.
That's right Geoff, she was telling me all about it. They run the both business. Sure, this was only the outskirts of Santitham really . As you mentioned, it goes loads deeper. Cafe De Sot is a nice place. Cheers Geoff.
Good one Wayne. Thanks for sharing as always. Chiang Puak area is my favorite area to stay when visiting Chiang Mai. Most of my stays I have stayed at Chiang Puak Hotel, which is a quiet green oasis in a otherwise busy area. Koh Chiang and the surrounding islands is my favorite islands since they are one of very few that still has an island vibe to it. Udon Thani is more interesting for a foreigner since there are more things to do and see for foreigners than in Khon Kaen. Good meeting you the other day, mate. Spent 3 days in Santiham when I first arrived 7 months ago. Love it. That place you showed "across the road" is one of my favorites! 50 baht for two toppings and rice. Right around the corner from your tea place you can get meals for 30 baht.
This is my absolute favorite video you've done so far... and my first comment. I'm looking to move to Chiang Mai later this year and would love a busy area for at least the first year, to get a real taste for the lay of the land without a car and before I get a scooter/license. With two dogs and a cat, I come with baggage. No interest in Nimman, so I'm in search of information for the other, more traditional areas around Old Town. No interest in high-rise condos. I would also love for you to focus a bit on how to not be taken advantage of by "real estate agents" since I've gathered there are no licenses or regulations, and the pay scheme seems a bit dodgy from the outside looking in. Thanks Much! J~
Hi Jenai, much appreciated for liking the video and great to have you in the comments. Santitham would be a great starting location, it's one of the best for settling in. Everything is in walking distance and many food and shops around. I would move on from that area after time but it's a perfect first time in Chiang Mai location. I'm friends with a few Thai estate agents, so maybe that's an idea for a vlog in the future. Thanks
Thanks Wayne. The Santitham area looks pretty low key - cool vibes. So, what sizes of shoes do they usually carry in stock at that place you showed us where all the tennis shoes were priced at 580 Baht ???
Santitham is a great area, it's got that hippy sort of vibe to it. I would the shoes maybe go up to a 10 or 11 uk size. It's always harder to find the real big sizes. Yes, most of them was 580 Baht. Bargain! Cheers Bryan.
Hello Wayne if you want to stay in the North a vlog about the coffee growing areas around Omkoi.. There are local tribal people known as the Karen people who are trying to stop the building of a coal mine.
I been to Karen village a couple times buddy, even dated a Karen woman but that was before I was vlogging. Karen village will be a cool vlog if I'm up that way again 👍
Always like going on a walk about with Walk About Wayne. Always learning something. I see those shoes, I can only imagine I could find a good mesh, {breathable} military type boot there, whereas I do not wear sneakers. Thailand probably has a standard military issue for that very boot, considering their climate. I am not a floppy kind of guy, but always get dressed for street fight when I go out, and then work at being kindly to others when I am among them.
Also Wayne, at some point might you be able to cover secure storage options for nomads and ex-pats who might need to leave for days, weeks or months at a time? My personal need might be having a place where I could store some things in a suitcase or shippable container for items I might need shipped to a new location in the future, and having s place or service that could ship it if needed, have you seen a service like that?
That cafe in the garden looks really nice. Does it sell food as well or just the coffee? By the way, the smog is really bad now. Wearing a mask might help a bit, especially when you are outdoor like that. Since the beginning of the burning season, I've had a terrible headache nearly every day. Take care and enjoy your time in Chiangmai. Wish you find whatever you are looking for. 😃
I think it sells cakes and some snacks Tracy, but that's about it I think. Yeah, I get a headache sometimes and low energy from the smoke. Mask is all good, if it's the right one. This year is the year I do wear one more than often. Hope your well Tracy 👍

Thanks! I had to look at the video date, as I forgot. Yes, it was around March / April last year. Nobody knows how bad it will be, but April will be smokey IMO.
Hi Wayne. I stayed at Emporium hotel in that area a number of times. There seemed to be a lot of Thai students living in that area hence the low cost of living. Better than staying in the old city in tourist central. Are you ever going to catch up with Olive again. I wonder how she is after her fifteen minutes of fame has passed by.
Yws Doug, a lot of students and basic rooms around this area. It's probably cheaper on the Chang Phueak side but Santitham has more to offer. I have seen Olive a couple times, she has a stall at the market, where she's trying to cling on to the limelight. I did hear, she's gone back to wearing the revealing sweater again haha.
Hello Wayne I am an avid lawnbowler but nobody ever talk about that and I think it would be a great video to include on your next’s video because a lot of expats are from England Scotland and like me from Canada and the beauty about it there are 6 of them in Thaïland and one in Chang Mai. Just an idea
Hi Patrick, I've never really thought about lawn bowling mate. I think i have a video somewhere when someone was playing. If i ever come across some lawn bowls, I'll make sure i get some footage. Take it easy Patrick

My finger hoverd over the unsubscribe button with your singing, but I'm still here, 555. Very nice place, Cafe de Sot. Tough choice, the beautiful location there or the cute lady with her little stand. I had to laugh when you told us you checked if she was married. A perfect mate for you, cute and free green tea for life.
Haha the singing is part of the channel, sorry Randy. Cafe De Sot is a really nice spot to sit. Zung was a beautiful lady, at small talk coffee. Cheers Randy.
Yes, Small Talk looks good. But just one question: How is it that you always seem to know which of the ladies are married and which are not? I am usually too bashful and shy to ask women if they are married. I think it's OK to ask women how old they are. But, I just find it hard to ask them about their marital status. Yes. Small Talk was very NaRak. But, I still prefer girls in masks, personally.
I think that's where your going wrong buddy, don't ask a woman her age. Strike up a converstaion, some "SMALL TALK". get chatting about life, business and day to day stuff.
I should have known about that area when I was in C. M. Bret Dev covered it a couple of years ago. Anyway, they say that air fares have gone up. BuItI checked Kayak and you can still fly around S.E. Asia for $50-60. Air Asia is great. I flew to Laos and Cambodia. And to see my girlfriend's dying dad . (Think he is still dying). Just a hour or so . No buses! 🙏 land is unique in the many different places and areas to visit. Also, prem. econ seemed $2-3 hundred more from SFO to BKK. I need P.E. for the long flights. And no elbow fights. Thanks.
Yes Brett was one of the first REAL Chiang Mai vloggers, i remember watching Brett's videos arount this area also. I've heard a few people saying flights have gone up. Domestic is still cheap, i been looking.

No mention of the Aerox in the background at the end of the vlog then mate ;)
Hope you are well :)
Haha, if I seen it , I would have wanted it mate 🤣, Hope it wasn't to bad settling back into home life again mate.
@Walk-About Wayne we are already in planning for our return next year, hopefully 30 days or more in Chiamg Mai with 7 days heading North doing the Mae Hong Son loop, Pai etc
How about Krabi?
A work mate of mine lives in Krabi and suggested if people are interested in living in Thailand they should definitely investigate Krabi.
Keep up the good work 👍
Krabi could be an option Paul, it looks nice. Thanks mate.
You should get to Koh Chang mate, really lovely island.
I think it's a place I would like Mike . I might be down that way soon.
Where are those laptop shops, Wayne? I need to get one.
Oh, Google tells me it's 750 metres away..🤣🤣
🤣 If you look for Cafe De Sot, all the computer shops are right there. Sounds like your not to far away :).
they are english pounds. 'bank of england'. scotland and northern ireland have their own pounds
Pound is used for British currency, but i still always call it the English pound 🤣.

Please make video on cheaper places to live around santitham area . ( Daily monthly basis )
I'll see what I can do. 👍

Where is this area? Northwest of the square?
Yes, in behind Huay Kaew Road on the North west of the moat 👍
If you go to Hua Hin you need to meet up with TH-camr Johny There is something going on. 😁
Did he change his name 🤣. Yeah it would be cool to bump into Johny.
@@WalkAboutWayne No. 😀 I was at work so typing fast. There is something happening is better. 😀 Hope it works out
Does the b8ke shop rent by the day. I need to do me smalls
I'm sure they would rent by the day. Especially during burning season.
The lady with the laptop does she have a website and does she ship to the usa 🙂
I don't think so buddy, it just over the counter second hand stores 👍
My finger hoverd over the unsubscribe button with your singing, but I'm still here, 555. Very nice place, Cafe de Sot. Tough choice, the beautiful location there or the cute lady with her little stand. I had to laugh when you told us you checked if she was married. A perfect mate for you, cute and free green tea for life.
Haha the singing is part of the channel, sorry Randy. Cafe De Sot is a really nice spot to sit. Zung was a beautiful lady, at small talk coffee. Cheers Randy.
When you going back to Phuket? or you going tot stay up in Chiang Mai ?
I've never been to Phuket, Chiang Mai is where i live Bryan.
@@WalkAboutWayne oh i only ever been to Phuket. You should check it out, I would love to see your take on it vs Chiang Mai
You pay my fare, and will show you what not to do. Lots of "dying dad's" out there.
Go to Talat Tannin, great market
I've done a few vlogs at the market Paula. Great Market and food court 👍
