      @@zeinao7898 It’s kinda impossible to scam someone on sag cuz it’s super specific and they’d need to lie about a huge team of ppl meaning that a lot of ppl need to be in on it and also they usually do studio work and they’d need to be a sag regulated company so I highly doubt it if you mean a fake comment then it could be a fake comment

    The best overall advice I found for everyone looking to be SAG at some point:
    Move heaven and earth to get ELIGIBLE first (don't burn out, but be mindful of trying to get it), but hold off joining until it makes SENSE for YOU to join SAG.

    Can I also join SAG-Afra by not being an actor from the US? Because I am from Luxembourg (Europe), but currently living in the UK due to my studies in acting.
    And to join, do I already need to have an agent and or some projects on my resume?

    thank you so much! i was so confused! i was on backstage and i saw an audition that would fit me perfectly and i saw sag aftra and i was SO confused. do you happen to know what it means if an audition says “union and non union” on a backstage audition? i know what each are but the audition im looking at says both. also, what is professional pay? like, how much would i make for a feature film as a supporting role with professional pay?

    • @AngiePattersonYT
      @AngiePattersonYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ella! When it says union and non union, it means they are open to casting both actors who are in the union and those who are not. The pay rate for union actors can be found on the SAG-Aftra website. For non-union, they can pay you whatever they want.

    Go fi-core so you can work union AND non-union - just like all the camera crew are allowed to do by their union, but for some reason actors are not.

    • @AngiePattersonYT
      @AngiePattersonYT  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Going fi-core is not as simple as it sounds, and may not be a good idea for everyone. I'd suggest talking with at least a few other actors who have gone fi-core before deciding if it's right for you, since the info available online isn't totally clear.

    • @lesliesykes-warren5664
      @lesliesykes-warren5664 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's very easy to go fi-core. SAG has an entire dept dedicated to it. It's your legal right to be able to go fi-core. You still pay dues. You give up the screeners and voting rights. But you gain more work opportunities.

If I had skipped college and moved right after high school than maybe; I know an actress who was home schooled and already booking roles as a teenager and was able to make that jump (with financial support from her parents) and now shes on a network TV show; but that's the exception. I'm too old to be waiting tables and I have other interests outside of acting, I like having no traffic and a low cost of living. And my family is here, If I lived in another state I would be a stranger to my nieces and nephews and what am I going to care about when I'm 70?

    How do you become a part of the union

    • @ktoth29
      @ktoth29 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do well enough in an audition that the director wants to cast you instead of someone else. They have to pay a $300 penalty to Taft Hartley you but thats about it. The real challenge is that once your taft hartleyed you eventually have to join the union and then you can't work non union, but just because your in the union doesn't mean your going to get cast any more frequently so you are limiting the opportunities to work (depending on what market you are in)

      @@ktoth29 is it bad to do non union auditions?

    • @ktoth29
      @ktoth29 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ellaalves4676 "Bad", no. Waste of time, probably. It depends on how much experience you have and what kind of opportunities are available in your area. If you live anywhere other than NY, LA or maybe Atlanta, non-union is 99% of the work, but 98% of those non union jobs have to be written off as a "learning experience" which you will tire of sooner or later.
