    Hey guys,
Finding a good acting class is THE MOST IMPORTANT step in starting your acting career!
Here is a list that I've compiled of recommended acting classes at colleges as well as at Actor Training studios here in LA.
Colleges **I checked several sources; the colleges at the top of the list had the most recommendations:
Tisch School of the Arts, NYU
    Julliard
    Boston University
    Univ of N. Carolina
    CalArts (Valencia, CA)
    Carnegie Mellon (Penn)
    DePaul (Chicago)
    Actors Studio at Pace University
    Syracuse
    Rutgers (NJ)
    Univ of Connecticut
    Univ of Texas, Austin
    Brown
    USC School of Dramatic Arts
    UC Irvine
    U of Washington
    Yale School of Drama
Emerson (I hear this school is especially supportive of LGBTQ students - YES!!!)
    Ithaca
    Northwestern
State Univ of NY at Purchase
    American Conservatory Theater (San Fran)
    A.R.T. at Harvard
    UCLA
Emory (I had to mention this one bc there is SOOOO much work for actors in Atlanta right now)
    Options in the UK:
    Royal Academy of Dramatic Art
Royal Central School of Speech & Drama
    Bristol Old Vic
OK, and for the studios here in LA where you can attend on-going classes forever and ever (in no particular order):
    Christina Chauncey On-Camera classes
John Rosenfeld Studios (they also have a great youth program)
    BGB Studio
Leigh Kilton Smith's Audition Theory class
    Howard Fine (for newbies)
    Larry Moss (for advanced actors)
    Kerrie Keane
    Margie Haber
    Anthony Meindl
    Annie Grindley
    Lesly Kahn & Co.
    Diana Castle
    Julie Ariola
Please also check out Amy Lyndon!!! www.thelyndontechnique.com
    UCB (for Improv)
Lesley Wolff's Fresh Faces class (for Stand-Up Comedy)

I'm in my last year of college (joint liberal arts degree). I have a background in performance art, have occasionally worked in theatre in the set&props&directing departments, and finally started taking an improv class two months ago because I want to transition into... less-abstract narrative, I think. As the weeks roll by, I'm becoming more unsure if I benefit from the (literal) direction of the class and realize that I have no reference point of what to look for in the teaching. This video gave me some helpful clues! Thank you!

After weeks I finally found the right time to tell my mom I miss acting (I was in class for 2 years and stoped for 2 years to focus on school) but now I can get back to acting classes in Amsterdam! I am so exited and want to act somewhere in Amsterdam south. is anyone here Dutch and/or knows a good acting class in Amsterdam (south)?
There are a lot of acting schools that are just for theater acting and not film acting.

Ok, question, while working on a scene in acting class, one of my classmates smacked my baseball cap off my head during a scene, note it was not in the scene, its not a prop hat, i finished the scene, however the class laughed while the scene was not comedy, the acting coach never adressed it, i told her about how i felt, she said in a real shooting that it would be edited out not to worry, i told her it was disrespectful. Thoughts ?

    • @JenniferPielak
      @JenniferPielak 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Rick, as someone who has been acting a long time and who has also done a lot improv teaching (where stuff like this happens a lot), I think your teacher did not handle this right. If you in any way feel like your personal boundaries are crossed during scene work, it's important to address - for both you and your seen partner. It's important to feel a sense of safety (physical, emotional, psychological, etc) doing your work as an actor - as you know, it can be very vulnerable work and you are accessing and revealing all sorts of parts of yourself. Now I didn't witness this happen, so I'm only speaking to your version of the story. I don't know what level of a class this was - often weird stuff happens in acting classes, especially beginner/intermediate level classes - when people are performing and being watched, the ego reacts in multiple ways - so not sure what the motivation was for your scene partner to knock your hat off (whether it was a character choice, weird impulse, to get extra reaction, etc). Anyway, it could have been a great teachable moment for the class - sorry your teacher didn't validate what happened for you and take it as an opportunity to address boundaries while performing. All this said, over time, you learn the best way to take care of yourself as an actor no matter who is in charge. It's a strange world to work in - but a wonderful one! Hope this helps!

If I want to be a actress do I have to go to college?

    • @JenniferPielak
      @JenniferPielak 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Hey Angelica - you totally don't have to go to college for acting. There are plenty of routes to becoming an actor. However YOU MUST TRAIN AND TAKE CLASSES like Angie says. You must ALWAYS be training. One of the easiest and best ways to get started is to go to college/university or enrolled in a full time program for acting. However, there are lots of great independent classes you can take. It also depends on what you want to DO as an actor. If you'd really like to do theatre, a theatre degree is a really good idea and will make it easier to get into it. I personally don't have a theatre/acting degree from a University, but I with over 10 years of acting experience, I have probably spent the equivalent amount of money on independent classes as well as have the equivalent amount of training as a masters level in acting. If you aren't sure what you want to do as an actor yet (theatre, film, commercials, musical theatre, improv, experimental theatre, performance art, create your own stuff online, etc etc) I recommend taking a bunch of different independent classes in a bunch of different areas. Follow where your creative interest goes. And ABSOLUTELY audit classes and do your research on them. Hope this helps!

    • @AngiePattersonYT
      @AngiePattersonYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Hannah! Make sure to watch my video on background acting. And yes, lots of actors do background work as well as principal work, especially to make their minimum to qualify for SAG insurance. Just know that if you work background on a show, you may not be able to audition for that show as a principal.

Acting classes do ask for money; you have to pay for them. Agents and managers should NOT ask for money up front. You should try finding a community of actors in LV and get recommendations for good classes from them.

I do! I actually studied there about 11 years ago. They provide an excellent foundation for acting. They are definitely more theater-heavy, but I know they've added more classes recently that address the business side of acting as well.

master kenobi YESSSSSSSS never go to big cities for acting jobs unless you’re ready to go against actors that 3/4 have already been in film. In Austin its less competition and lots of movies are being shot here just this year. So stay here OR a good state RIGHT NOW is North Carolina.

Angie I am really glad I found your channel. I have 2 daughters moving to LA this fall, My oldest is 18 and going to college, and her sister who is 15 is going to move with her. She has a youtube channel with 250k subscribers, has been offered contracts from 3 huge modelling agents here in the UK, but she also wants to act. She is homeschooled and has an acting tutor/coach -she takes LAMDA acting exams. The above Classes would they accept a 16 year old? Also any advice for such a young one? (I can't go with yet due to my green card status taking time and they are American).
