Love that you did a video on your favorite tools!! While I am not a professional like you, I enjoy doing projects for myself and family. I need that pneumatic stapler!! Game changer!! I don’t do anything for public either, but do want to get into doing some pieces to sell. Thanks for sharing your tools!
Would like to see videos on measuring fabric for a novice. Especially like florals or paisley patterns and how to match them. Thanks for all the great info!
Please do a video about sewing different fabrics and the essential supplies that are needed. This is my new passion and you have been the best teacher I've found yet!!
Thanks for doing this video. I just started reupholstering as a hobby and picked up a couple Victorian pieces with no idea where to begin. Knowing the tools I will need will be very helpful.
Hello Aimee, Wow! I’m so glad your channel showed up on my TH-cam feed!! You are a very meticulous & talented professional!! And an absolutely wonderful instructor!! I enjoy watching your videos!! I learned sooo much from you!! So much so - that I know I do not want to attempt to upholster my chairs!! I did the seats to my 6 dining chairs over 20 years ago, I enjoyed doing them & they looked nice!! But, just last month & went to a professional upholstery shop & they are going to do all my projects for me - so I am waiting 3 months for my items to be ready!! Because they are that busy!! Your students & customers must be totally thrilled to have found you!! Take care!! I hope you can continue to create & share more videos!!
These videos are great! Thank you for making them. Few questions... 1. What makes a "good" pair of shears? What length is best? 2. Where do you buy your upholstery specific tools and supplies? (I'm from Dartmouth 😊) 3. What are the sizes of your needles? (You showed your largest and smallest, I'm guessing 4"-1.5" but what's in between /how many sizes? Please keep doing these videos! I've been wanting to do this for a living but I have very limited resources in this area for reliable knowledge, thank you for sharing your experience! I'd really like to see which tools are used for which jobs and I would like to learn... 1. How to properly measure fabric. 2. How to choose and shop for fabric and where you choose to buy it. 3. How to do tufted buttons and cording. 4. What makes a piece difficult vs easier? In other words, how to choose a project that is challenging for your skill level but not in over your head, like in what order would you put things in if you were to chapter them in a book lol? Thank you again, you're my local heroine/idol, I've been folloing your website for years now.
I love my Wiss shears. Find a pair that are comfortable for you. You can buy your supplies at Comfort Foam in Burnside. The needle sizes aren’t that important. Have a variety on hand and use the size that seems suitable for the job. Thanks for watching!

Please talk about the materials you use such as different types of foam, different types of fabric and uses of the fabric ie., indoor, outdoor, auto, marine. I know that’s a lot but I need to know a lot. Just starting out and redoing boat interior.
I give another vote for this type of video! Also [im redoing the inside of a van] which has a lot of ¿vinyl/vyinal? in it; I just finished reading about the heat sheets of that stuff. It seemed it only gets used on wearable fabrics, like t shirts & what not. 🕵Is that something i could use on my seats or even the harder stuff? Thanks if you answer or even read this all the way. 👍💁
Number 6 tack hammer. For decorative nails (finished nails) they must the C.S Osborne 6oz Nylon Tip Magnetic Hammer #36 so as to not damage the nail/finish.
I found your video while trying to do some research before starting my first project. I now know some basic tools that I will need, so thanks for that! I'm going to look at your other videos after this comment but just for some feedback to you, I would love to find a video that kind of walks us through a simple beginner project. I want to reupholster my loveseats but I'm starting to think I should start with something a bit smaller for my first project. I enjoyed this video!!!
Husbands come & go but a great pair of shears will last a lifetime! LOL! You are funny. LOVE your videos. We are in the process of reupholstering dining chairs. Let me just say, you definitely make it look so easy, but it certainly is not! You are most certainly a PRO!
A useful hint about the Parsons chair.if you finish stapling the front before finishing the sides.you can make sure the pattern on the front is straight.otherwise the corners left and right look slightly pulled down
I'm definitely interested in knowing about essential supplies as well as what tools you should invest in if you want to step your game up! Hope to see more of your great content!
Thank you for sharing the equipment you use. I would love to have a video on the supplies you use. I have done a few projects but look forward to doing more. Your videos are very helpful. Of course having a nice "dedicated" area to work is huge with good lighting!!!!
Thanks for the video. It has great information that is presented with passion and humor. I will likely be starting a couple of upholstery projects in the coming months and will use this as a reference.
New Subscriber. Soooo intimidated by this craft. I’m a Newbie. I’m from many generations of furniture restoration, not upholstery though. My 1st project is a love seat with reclining ends that I used to sleep on as a 4 yr old. Now 50 years later. It was damaged during the Baton Rouge floods.
Your video was very helpful I need to take 6in off of a sofa it's a sectional so I can work with a small piece that goes in the corner of the room but I just need to take 6 inches off so I can get it snug to fit
helpful... I'm just a DIY but I do run into needing to do very light upholstery from time to time and it's a skill I'd like to improve... so far all your videos have been very helpful in that regard
I enjoy your videos immensely. Thank you so much. I would love to see how to do button tucking in leather or car upholstery suitable material. Thanks again. 😆
Thank you, watched this twice so far. I have done some upholstery and more slip covers. But, an getting ready to do a couple chairs for the living room. And, apparently feeling inadequate🤪. So, gonna get an air gun, Amazon is out of yours...And, keep watching🤗
watch your video on staple remover tools. Bought the Osborn two prong one. Works great saved me a lot of time and work. Thanks. Keep the videos coming.
Hi please talk more about your shears brand name and where you bought it and the size. What to look for in buying a good pair. Do you recommend Fiskars? Also can you do a video on how to make sure the pattern or lines on fabric is straight. I watched one video but you went too fast and didn't catch that part. What do you do if there is a repeating pattern. Also can you do videos on what fabric choices for chairs. Pkease make the videos more often. Thank yoy
Thank you so very much for taking the time to share all of your knowledge!! I've just stumbled across your videos whilst doing some research for pneumatic staple guns after experiencing all those things you didnt want to imagine🤦♀️ I was wondering what type/size of staples your staple gun uses and if you have just the one for all jobs? I'm excited to watch the rest of your videos. Thanks again.
Thank you for your video. Looking for recommendations on removing & re-installing existing fabric backing to remove a cellphone that fell through an unknown hole in the base of the couch.
Very helpful information! Thank you. I am struggling a bit with a round leather covered ottoman. It has a groove cut in the wood that provided a channel to staple the leather and then the leather piping. Do you have any content that could demonstrate that technique? Thanks again for sharing your expertise.
Hi Aimee, your videos are always clear and straight to the point with some humour thrown in for a laugh! I am considering some DIY projects and would love to do this as a profession. Thanks, from Belinda at Port Macquarie NSW Australia :-)
I just subscribed and I can’t wait to see what else you have posted! Hopefully a basic project for beginners and an explanation of the various materials used in upholstery.
Tough week at the ranch and needed a change of pace! The seats I repair and recover use high density foam, could you give a brief lesson on shaping and repairing a section of damaged foam. My equipment consists of a mechanical stapler, odd types and sizes of whatever foam I can scrounge up, old flat sections of used seat covers to put over repairs before installing the cover and a roll of warehouse tough shrink-wrap to hold everything in place on a rough jobs before the cover gets fitted. I am the last resort for most people before they have to replace the entire seat and by keeping my prices low and being creative helped to create a small following. New foam is only an option for a few makes and models out of the hundreds that have been produced, shipping a used seat is no bargain. The last seat I got from Beaumont Texas cost me $56.14 and that cost more then the seat that needed plenty of work. Sorry about rambling but I'm hustling 3 part time jobs and don't get out much. Thanks
Have you ever considered creating a training program? I create them for other clients and also am a paid subscriber of a few woodworking training programs and guitar programs.
Yes, I definitely have. I still have my notes from when I was in trade school, with every subject clearly mapped out the way the instructor taught it. I only need the time....😂

Hey, just watched your video. I’m fairly new to this but I’ve taken on restoring and antique French bed. Lots of upholstery tacks! What is the regulator for???
Hello! Artisan Upholstery Studio: Great videos! What do you call the material underneath a tub chair or most chairs that covers the springs that's the last piece seen on most chairs? About 90psi I believe (I set it many years ago) but play around until you get yours right

Amy, when stapling cushion covers, in preparation to sewing them, where are you stapling? In the seam allowance or beyond. Thanks.
Thank you, but I would like to know what you use that long pokey thing for.
It has many uses, you’ll see me using it in all my videos
Very informative. Something I noticed on a chair upholstering segment was a pointed end saw used to cut foam. Is this a necessity or will something else work as well for a beginner? Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing. Liked and subscribed. I'll be watching them all!
Welcome! 😊
What gauge stapler should I purchase? I need to upholster a boat seat.
22 guage
Very good information video keep up the good work

suggestion for future video- club chair with out-scrolling arms
Hey, great information, could you tell me what size staples you use please
All links are in the description
Thanks !!
Loved the video Aimee!
I am interested in some specifics please. Brand of your staple gun; narrow, medium or wide crown staples; 16 or 18 gauge, and the length of staples that should be used. Thanks in advance!
Brand doesn’t matter, just needs to be specific for upholstery. 3/8” x 3/8” staples, 22 gauge.
Please tell about stick sponch on fabric which material you use?
Can you reuse decorative nails heads when reupholstering? What is the process of removing them to preserve for reuse?
It would be difficult to keep them straight and the nails aren’t that expensive. To me, it’s worth the cost to buy them new.

The extra tool. Yes please.

Hello! Artisan Upholstery Studio: Great videos! What do you call the material underneath a tub chair or most chairs that covers the springs that's the last piece seen on most chairs? How can we post items of items for you to see? I also have a tub chair foot that I am replacing. Love to hear your tips on the process. I will review most of your videos for these tips, as well. Hello Amy
I am trying to teach my self UPHOLPOLSTRY.
I am restoring a old boat and recovering everything and all the needed wood.
I took all the old upholstery appart and used the parts for templates, cut and sewed toegather but just can't get it correct.
Is there a technique for making my own parts to fit a particular piece of foam on a seat that has several parts to it.
I can send you a picture of it through what ever form of media you prefer
Thanks
