Thanks so much for your great videos! You’ve inspired me to look for a project and have another go. Years ago in Ware I went regularly to an upholstery workshop, then I moved and could no longer go. I just checked all my craft stuff and found that I still have all the tools I purchased back then, probably 20 years ago! They’ve moved to the other side of the world with me 😂
Thank you for the tool list. One correction @ 13:47, those cutters are sheet metal shears (AKA tin snips). They are used for cutting metal (by trades that work with sheet metal or metal strapping like HVAC installers/techs) so have a much more durable blade that stays sharper than ordinary garden snips.
I rebuild furniture in Tennessee mostly framework but trying to learn upholstery. Right now, I suck but have plenty of junk furniture to practice on. Thanks for the videos they really helped.
Alright alright alright! Thankyou Michael, good luck with the learning process and so glad our videos are helping. Reupholstery is always a good place to start, taking off the old fabric shows you how it went on originally. 🙏🧵⛏️✂️📎👍
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but when using the unpicker to rip through a seam, flip it around so the red ball goes in first. The ball prevents the fabric from getting caught and you can rip through the seam like butter.
I’d just like to say thank you because you have inspired me to do an apprenticeship in upholstery and to start my on upholstery business in the future and your videos are really helpful and It makes me really excited to keep practicing it as a hobby first
Hi Tom! What a lovely comment to read, thank you so much for sharing! Upholstery definitely is rewarding work and I’m sure you’ll do great in it! Good luck Tom 😊👍🏻
Can you please advise on which staple gun and compressor to buy. Hobbyist only with two small Parker knolls to reupholster. Your video on that is amazing.
If you are only doing 2 chairs go as cheap as possible, amazon or eBay will do a deal with a compressor and gun combo. Be warned some are quite loud so check the dB levels.😊🙏📐📎🧵⛏️✂️
Thank you for your very informative videos I am hooked and your work is amazing, I was a dressmaker by trade but now I have just started to recover some 50s dining chairs and all my knowledge is coming from your videos.. keep up the good work and thanks again ... jacqui 👏 👍
I would love a better stapler - I just have the basic one! I would love a serger too!!! I don't have the storage for all the things I would love to have !!! Thank you for going through all your tools.
I have started reupholstering my grandmas chair and quickly realised I need to buy a compressor and proper gun, i don't have any patience for the amount of staples that won't go in and my nail gun staples are way too narrowed Crown to actually hold the fabric, but now I am in a world of staple sizes and I have no idea what to choose. It seems the 71 series are the most common guns but it is the narrowest crown and if you run out, they are not widely available at places like toolstation etc, so I have been looking instead at the t50 staples which has the thickest crown and is available in most shops if you need them urgently, but can you please suggest any situation where you can't use this type of staples? And what do you suggest is the most universal staple size? Do you often change the sizes of your staples? I think the t50 would be the way to go but your advice would be great. I don't have a foam cutter, but I used my mums 1970s electric meat cutter and it worked a treat 🤣
Wow thanks for this wealth of basic info. Could watch all day. Love your humor as well. Subscribed right away! I sew but this is different, might need a little luck. See you recommend a 20 Guage staple gun in your links. Is that a better choice than a 22 Guage if only have one? More versatile maybe?
Hi Wanda, sorry the delay in responding. And many thanks for your lovely comments. Yes a 22 Gauge gun would also work, I tend to buy the BEA guns as they are very reliable. I have found some of the cheaper brands don't seem to last anywhere near as long. Hope this message finds you well. ✂️⛏️🧵🙏📐
Neil this is SOOOOO helpful! Thank you! I’ve begun my first project - redoing a buttoned otttoman. BUT I’m already STUCK at recovering the buttons. I bought new sets but the getting the fabric on them is incredibly fiddly … because it’s not thin shirt weight cotton but a slightly heavier upholstery fabric. What’s the secret? I saw you using a heavy iron button holer (not the real name im sure) but it still seems difficult. Any hints??
Hi Isabel, did you say recover the buttons? Always make fresh buttons as it will be a nightmare to reuse the old buttons. Do you have a proper button press and dye set? ✂️📐📎🧵⛏️👍
@@faceliftinteriors Thanks for reply Neil - I DO have fresh button blanks but not the proper button press and dye set. Hi Aisha! Yes I absolutely would recommend one for advance upholsterers that have to regularly remove a lot of staples - it saves so much time! It’s not available on amazon or eBay at the minute otherwise I would send you a link 😊 here’s a similar one I’ve found on eBay: rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2FMULTIFUCTIONAL-BUTTON-EYELET-MAKING-PRESS-COVER-MACHINE-FREE-DIES-100-BUTTONS%2F351533454102%3F_trkparms%3Dispr%253D1%26hash%3Ditem51d906d316%3Ag%3AtOgAAOSw9r1WCxxG%26amdata%3Denc%253AAQAFAAACcBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%25252Fn%25252BzU5L90Z278x5ickkWpEuxXwAiCNKyBQsQ5%25252Fe633tWVhPo6WQuXsZxl1Bkw9NpN83vyrGjV1%25252FwzHbsPS4pHxTY3ueTMMjqUDWW4VCWwYde4vp5H22nYrK1mNnBECFr0u3hEFD10bhTAyNmJGiGPGogVdVfCfGx8oHSC0fnK4%25252BCHudDxP1pgjhcCxKlv%25252F2gWcya8YCY8ko6VqsibOmLJpc7KRcbx2tsTrMmVJl%25252Bd1UN56iyjG8WERmR5AKeUxXmlOGnGPK7B7vAhnNmqAq7gUzKhWZtEPE2IKPZr8NYrHo4tz6NwXYTSj3%25252FPZh%25252BiP5wZ7HHacd76z2fKJ%25252B4uVcVmkRaGm04j2M%25252BM4MVOfxOAOwT11w%25252B%25252BmktMcagj6l7m3kWw2UGDoVdPwJt2yea85cjAClyBXA4dHLi5%25252BeMVWNSr5ftdQj2M6g7Oh7LMvlc316T2qjuomfmV1H354K4K%25252Fst1pHjlDWvA0Icv%25252Fu0umUmouXjr8veUdVc%25252BfBuxa6UQ1yx1a0Klrj%25252BmQ1jMAVm3IO4hNQ2IlSv50QqhAlMCycQ3kJLtuHw6yRNU6fkgSv3pau%25252FY6Rbb4cnB23yEv%25252F%25252FOSjNdquFTMuD7qx1uSVEGYDz2hs419rM7AH1%25252FqAT2i5AQ%25252BCajQQfXeMGwM9yIYoX7NnrYQf3hOFWrRULLpFh0VNKBeb6t1BSQSxw5UGsjFSMw2wrRxHFrH7bef9a%25252FyFddoR%25252B9QSfjrHeMUJMEMpI3ANwY5eoTiDokv9OC54kKeyVTJMW%25252BJB5bLTClJ96Nx1jNHdUtz1iSjZ%25252F7Dpf026ezcR%25252Bw%25253D%25253D%257Ccksum%253A351533454102d99e8536df9340acad7607f229f8fff7%257Campid%253APL_CLK%257Cclp%253A2334524&campid=5338723226&toolid=10001&customid=
