- Talk Lincoln, and most think of grandad’s ride. The Town Car had, after all, been the staple of the limo business since its introduction in 1981. That all changed with the introduction of the 1999 LS. At the time, Lincoln was in the process of redefining its reason for being, and the LS was designed to spearhead the change. The key difference was rather than being based on a wallowing body-on-frame platform it was based on the Jaguar S-Type. As noted, there were certain expectations for a Jag that weren’t even on Lincoln’s radar. The result was a drive that handled as well many Euro sedans - it could hussle with a 5 Series, but for the price of a 3 Series!
Lincoln was so sure it had the LS right the first drive was held at a race track. It was also the first time I remember putting race track and Lincoln in the same sentence! Could the dull days of the Lincoln land yacht finally be over? Sadly not, as that ray of driving light had a short-lived life - it was canned in 2006. Lincoln went back to building cars for old codgers.

Always love seeing these Vintage Reviews for this car. Seeing how much praise it got back in the day. Its a shame how hated on it is by the Car Community these days.
This car was so popular, how did it not survive
it was a total lemon riddled with issues
Still a fantastic looking car!
Such a cool Lincoln.
2000 was the first year.
I bought my 2001 in 2007.
Im still driving it in 2023.
Its been trouble free except i have replaced three window regulators.
It now has 170,000 miles on it.
You are very fortunate. I bought a 2004 Thunderbird, which is basically the same car with a different body. Even the instrument panel is almost identical. This has been the most unreliable car I have owned (but I still won't give it up). I ascribed all the issues to the Jaguar powertrain, since Jaguars have always been beautiful, but not the most reliable.
I have a 01 with over 300k miles. Everything is still original. Only done basic tune ups and oil change and have a new compressor.
Still drive my 2003 LS.
Wow, never seen this video before. Love the LS, still miss mine.
I got a 2006 Ultimate with every available option in dark 🍒 metallic. It now has 127k options and I love the heck out of it. Think I may sell after this year...its been 6 years so type for me to get something else.
you dont love that LS. sell it to someone who does.
@@nikolatesla3708 buy it from me since u know so much lol
Another great retro review. Disagree with the direct competition though, mix of Audi A6 and BMW 3-series? More like Audi A6 and BMW 5-series.
No mention of the available manual 5 speed gearbox at all? The first manual transmission Lincoln in four decades wasn't worth a mention? The clear aim of throwing a Getrag-equipped Lincoln into the fray against the manual transmission BMW? How very odd.
Hell yeah
