Also, the group singing backup with Patsy is The Jordanaires. They sang backup on most of Patsy's biggest hits.
The Jordanaires were in great demand, and sang backup for many greats, Elvis and Brenda Lee among them. That is also the great Floyd Cramer on the piano who is also very recognizable in his playing style.

Patsy was gorgeous in so many ways. Her facial beauty was jeopardized by a very bad car crash which scarred her forehead. She responded by growing out her bangs and continued to show how beautiful she was despite the blemish. Her own woman, she was way ahead of her time as a recording artist, a wife, and a woman. Oh, the great music we missed out on when her early death snuffed out her bright flame.

I always refered to her voice as "beautifully haunting" There is simply no voice to compare to her genuine feeling of every single song shes sings. I was so sad that her life was so short because the world would have been a better place with much more of her contribution to music...at least we have it eternally recorded for what she gave us. Everything she did was good, "Walking After Midnight" is one of my favorites. I was around when these were first released. This was everyday American music in the mid to late 1950s. She was known as a country western singer, but this could be considered typical popular music of that era, it was on most any radio station that played pop music. It is sad, what has happened to music in this country. We had all kinds of wonderful music that we took for granted, thank God for TH-cam. I hope more of today's generation get exposed to music of previous decades.

This was 1961 my generation I was born in 1949. Patsy's marriage was bad from an abusive husband. That helps understand the song better. I grew up listening to her then she died in that plane crash.

She is buried about a mile from my house and the house she and her mother lived in is right here in town. Patsy was a woman before her time...strong, independent and fierce. The song "Crazy" was actually written by Willie Nelson. Patsy endured a lot on her short life but she fought back and paid no mind to those who doubted her.
Patsy was already a star when Loretta Lynn hit Nashville. Patsy was Loretta's favorite singer and Loretta would sing Patsy's songs on live radio shows. Patsy had a bad car crash and was in the hospital and heard Loretta on the radio. She called for Loretta to come see her in the hospital and Patsy told Loretta she sang her songs better and that Loretta would be a star. They became best friends and Patsy had Loretta touring with her. Loretta was devastated when Patsy died.

This is super old school country and she was one of the most important voices not even in traditional country but just in general for that time. She's one of the most gifted alto singers ever I believe. And the song was written for her by a young Willie Nelson, Willie Nelson the red headed stranger and the country Outlaw with the long red hair in the braids. I love his chord progression on this and she knocked it out of the ballpark. This is a huge hit at the time and I still hear people covering it and singing it at shows. It definitely has that kind of smoky lounge jazz feeling to it for sure.

Patsy has one of the most beautiful singing voices in recorded music history. Made all the more poignant in retrospect because she died so young and tragically. Great reaction the late fifties and early sixties (pre Beatles) were a great time for vocalists. One of my favorite from this era is Nat King Cole, I would suggest "Ramblin' Rose", now a days about all people remember him for is "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...". He wasn't country, more Rhythm and Blues, his smooth voice was unmatched just as Patsy voice was.
There are few singers that have that special gift of a "cry" in their voice. Billy Holiday, Janis Joplin, Hank Williams and Patsy Cline, spring to mind. It's said. when you listen to them sing, it's like hearing the lonesome whistle of a distant train, late on a on a rainy night, that cuts you to your soul!

Patsy Cline was an amazing country singer. She and Loretta Lynn were best friends. She took Loretta under her wing when Loretta came to Nashville. My favorite Patsy Cline song is "He Called Me Baby," it is a beautiful, sexy song! You should listen to that one for sure. As for the writer of the song, Willie Nelson, my favorite songs he sings are three songs he did with Waylon Jennings, "Luckenbach, Texas," "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys," and "Good Hearted Woman." Also his duet with Ray Charles, 'Seven Spanish Angels" is amazing. My favorite song of his that he sings solo is "Whiskey River." Thank you for your reaction to Ms. Patsy Cline. This was 1961 my generation I was born in 1949. Patsy's marriage was bad from an abusive husband. That helps understand the song better. I grew up listening to her then she died in that plane crash.
What you say is true, but I would clarify that her lived life/experiences may have gravitated her toward the song, no doubt resonated with her. Willie Nelson wrote this song, incl lyrics.but no one could emote those words better than her!!! (probably what you mean anyway!!)

Willie definitely wrote the song but not especially for Patsy. He was living in a Nashville trailer park with two other writers and needed rent/food money and he sold the song to a promoter for $50...(from Willie's biography)

That pure tone of her voice, the breath control, that little yodely catch in her voice, and the ability to control pitch and volume is just amazing. I hadn't heard this song for many years and listened to it one day. I must have been in just the right mood because suddenly I was all waterworks. No autotune, just pure talent!

My favorite Patsy Cline songs is Walking After Midnight. It's kind of a sad song but it really does show a ranger of her vocal talents. Sadly she died young in a plane crash in the 1960's. The late great Patsy Cline! Yes she was a snappy dresser. She grew up dirt poor in West Virginia and quite school to so go to work to help her mother support her younger siblings. She died at 29 in a plane crash. Leaving behind her beloved her mother , husband and 2 babies. Such a loss for the music world. Try her other hits "I Fall To Pieces" "Sweet Dreams" "Faded Love" there is a movie about her life called Sweet Dreams after the hit song starring Jessica Lange

Patsy Cline was from here in Winchester, Virginia. She was considered a country music singer but I just think she was a phenomenally talented singer PERIOD. She is buried about a mile from my house and the house she and her mother lived in is right here in town. Patsy was a woman before her time...strong, independent and fierce. The song "Crazy" was actually written by Willie Nelson. Patsy endured a lot on her short life but she fought back and paid no mind to those who doubted her.
Patsy was already a star when Loretta Lynn hit Nashville. Patsy was Loretta's favorite singer and Loretta would sing Patsy's songs on live radio shows. Patsy had a bad car crash and was in the hospital and heard Loretta on the radio. She called for Loretta to come see her in the hospital and Patsy told Loretta she sang her songs better and that Loretta would be a star. They became best friends and Patsy had Loretta touring with her. Loretta was devastated when Patsy died.

When I was little, my Granny and Papa had an old record player and a stack of very old vinyl LPs, I used to love putting on Patsy Cline. Such a wonderful voice.
Patsy had one beautiful voice! She brought a torch singer's technique to country music, which added to her appeal. This particular song was written by Willie Nelson, if you can believe it. Unfortunately, Patsy died in an airplane crash on March 5, 1963 at the age of 29. She left a husband and two children. Her manager and several band members also died in that cash. But the music she recorded before her death have left her a very rich legacy.
When Loretta Lynn was starting her career, she and Pasty were good friends and did some shows together. And Willie Nelson was the writer of this song and also preformed it later on in life during his career on an album. Loved hearing this again after hearing it in the 60's over the radio and live on stage.

This is super old school country and she was one of the most important voices not even in traditional country but just in general for that time. She's one of the most gifted alto singers ever I believe. And the song was written for her by a young Willie Nelson, Willie Nelson the red headed stranger and the country Outlaw with the long red hair in the braids. I love his chord progression on this and she knocked it out of the ballpark. This is a huge hit at the time and I still hear people covering it and singing it at shows. It definitely has that kind of smoky lounge jazz feeling to it for sure.

Patsy has one of the most beautiful singing voices in recorded music history. Made all the more poignant in retrospect because she died so young and tragically. Great reaction the late fifties and early sixties (pre Beatles) were a great time for vocalists. One of my favorite from this era is Nat King Cole, I would suggest "Ramblin' Rose", now a days about all people remember him for is "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...". He wasn't country, more Rhythm and Blues, his smooth voice was unmatched just as Patsy voice was.
