Patsy Cline is one of the greatest. I grew up on this. When I was 21 with a newborn baby, the baby's father left us stranded in a dumpy trailer with no money and one lightbulb. The only thing that kept me sane was singing her entire greatest hits album to my baby over and over for a few months until I could get some help. Patsy saved my sanity! And probably my life.

I'm 68 and loving hearing and seeing these songs being heard again. Watching Amber and Jay and their reaction just warms my heart and gives hope that music will bring people together again. There seem to be a lot of “vintage” viewer/listeners. We seem to be hovering around 70. I love to watch your reactions because they are so honest and they come from the heart. We have some talented singers now too. It's just the music business that forces artists to use it, convincing them they aren't marketable without it. Here's hoping that tendency fades with time, and that in the near future artists insist on clean recordings with the management of the label they're signed to. PS: wanted to add that although artists of the past didn't have auto-tune, in all fairness some of them DID use some overdubbing effects during recording.

One thing to remember NOT to overlook when going down the music road of older songs... THERE IS NO DO OVER! They are live recordings and they couldn't "fix" things like pitch, flubbed words, etc. This brings an even bigger wow factor to those who sang back then... TRUE TALENT.
They most certainly did have the ability to record in studio and use production techniques such as mixing and effects like echo. They could also splice and rearrange the audio as desired, adding or subtracting percussion or changing the layering of vocals over instrumentation. These weren't "scratch vocals" as it's called in the music business. This video was in no way live - she's lip synching her studio recording in front of the camera. That's not to take away anything from Patsy's vocal abilities. Her studio recording was not overproduced (and a good music producer knows the difference between too much and too little), so the pure quality and range of her voice is maintained.
Patsy was amazing. She was the first female country singer who had the nerve to be sexy. She was not treated well in her early career by her partner but she came through and became a role model for singers like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton.

A great example is Neil Diamond's Cherry Cherry which is a demo recording. After doing a studio version decided to go with the demo. Have Neil's 12 Songs and After Dark. Both albums are poorly produced. The same can be said for Bob Dylan's Time Out Of Mind which won an Emmy for best album.

Cline is legendary. A guiding light to all in her sphere and especially those who followed, woman or man, singer or instrumentalist. Yes as others have pointed out, Nelson wrote the song, and it was a fast song, but they made the choice to slow it a bit in order that her contour of voice and expression could express something deeper or more careful. This song was written by Willie Nelson if you can believe that! Like others you've covered, Buddy Holly, John Denver, Jim Croce, etc. Patsy died on March 5, 1963 in an airplane crash. She was a mentor and friend of Lorretta Lynn, who even named one of her twin daughters Patsy in her honor. A voice like hers comes along once in a lifetime.

A great example is Neil Diamond's Cherry Cherry which is a demo recording. After doing a studio version decided to go with the demo.
Have Neil's 12 Songs and After Dark. Both albums are poorly produced. The same can be said for Bob Dylan's Time Out Of Mind which won an Emmy for best album.

Saw her sing that at her ranch in '94 acapella and she is amazing! You could have heard a pin drop and she didn't need the microphone her voice is soooooo strong. You could have heard a pin drop when she started to sing! Such a sweet lady as well!

Patsy was a staple in our house when I was growing up, therefore I knew every word of this song. She was amazing, many great songs. In Texas we have a Patsy Cline Tribute Band and they’ve been around for years. The girl who does Patsy, almost gets those notes, but just a hair off. There will never be another Patsy.

“Crazy” as it seems to consider, the reality is that Patsy Cline’s marvelous voice was completely untrained. She was known for her ability to make a perfect studio recording in one take. In 1961, at the height of her fame, Patsy had a near fatal car accident. That didn’t impact her voice. In fact, while she was recovering from the crash she gave us this iconic performance, Crazy, and she did it all in one take.
The headband she's wearing was to cover a not healed yet injury from the accident.

When you factor on the short time Patsy was with us, it's really remarkable to see the everlasting legacy she left behind. One can only imagine what the world could have had with just 10 more years of Patsy.

This isn’t just good… this is one of the best vocal performances of all time. This is perfection. Sublime. Patsy was on a different level, even from other great singers. If I could pick just 5 songs to broadcast out into space to demonstrate the best of what we produced and that encapsulate the full the range of what it means to be human - this would be one of them (Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, would be another… not sure of others, but Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma might be one…)

The piano that you liked so much was played by a session musician named Floyd Cramer, who had his own hit in 1960 with an instrumental called "Last Date". He played piano in a lot of country/country rock records over the years, and his technique, which he called "double fingering", is instantly recognizable, as it is here.

Cline is legendary. A guiding light to all in her sphere and especially those who followed, woman or man, singer or instrumentalist. Yes as others have pointed out, Nelson wrote the song, and it was a fast song, but they made the choice to slow it a bit in order that her contour of voice and expression could express something deeper or more careful. Cline was tops.
Quite possibly the greatest female singer of all time. An absolute legend who left us too soon. And one of the greatest songs of all time, written by the iconic Willie Nelson.
