    Maybe this will be helpful for somebody who works outside the home. I use the weekend as my zones so the first Saturday is the one the second Saturday is zone 2 etc. I don't do the home blessing hour. I do 7 daily chores to bless my home. Monday I mop (sweep first), Tuesday I clean the tub and toilet and hygiene items (brushes, etc), Wednesday I wipe dust. (Primarily the flat surfaces, but in zone 3 cob webs as that's my bathroom zone), Thursday I throw out trash, and clean out the refrigerator. Friday is floors, I vacuume, and sweep the hard floors. Saturday I call it "sheets" but I do all the laundry. Sunday is shine day. I clean electronic screens mirrors windows, and I shine a light into the week to come which is planning for the next week. (Organizing vitamins checking appointments.). My morning and evening routine is pretty much tidying up and getting dishes done.
    I don't need a day for bill paying because I automate my bills. I don't need an errand day because I no longer run errands I get things delivered. But Saturday morning while I'm working on my laundry my groceries are delivered. And I don't dress too shoes unless I'm leaving the house. I started flylady back in the 90s. I divide my home into four zones of my own choosing. When there's a 5th weekend of the month I do a good clean out of the car. And than I clean my cleaning tools like my vacuum.
    I think it's a good idea to make the flylady ideas work for you.

    Yes, the zone cleaning is also a bit difficult for me, right now that is not a focus though. I keep falling off the wagon, I work long hours, and I think I am trying 'too much, too soon'. So this time, I am focusing on the daily basics, and a few weekly things.
    I *have* to do my morning routine (which includes swish & swipe + squeegee shower walls, putting clean dishes away, making the bed, and taking out the trash if it is full). I come home late, but after work, I have to make sure that all dishes are clean before I go to bed (this is my problem area, since I don't have a dishwasher), and do a quick tidy (such as putting dirty laundry in the bin, put everything back in its place, do a 'kitchen swish and swipe', and so on). I also use this time to make things as easy as possible for tomorrow morning (I leave very early, so I am pressed for time), so measuring up the oats, putting a rag on my control station for the swish & swipe (it is right next to my bathroom), laying out an outfit, and so on.
    Once a week, I will try to go through my fridge, toss expired things, and make a meal plan - and pick up the groceries after work the next day. I will try to make sure to do laundry once a week (I share with all the other apartments in the complex), so it doesn't pile up. I also try to change sheets and towels once a week. These are not my main focus yet, they are just things I try to get done. I will make them more consistent once I feel more 'set' in the morning routine.
    This seems like a lot - but all of it is actually based around making the morning routine easier, and keep stress levels down. So while the morning routine is 'non negotiable', I automatically find myself doing other things to make that time easier. And I don't actually spend that much time cleaning (because it is more maintenance than cleaning), and therefore, I spend much less time cleaning now, than I did stressing over it before. If that makes sense at all to others.

      I'm struggling with zone cleaning too. didn't do anything this last week in the zone but am working on my weekly home blessing today and usually do not get the dusting done. but like you I am working on my daily routines. so you are not alone!!!! sounds like you are doing a lot and definitely making progress!!!!!

    • @julietannOsfan1972
      @julietannOsfan1972 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It made me chuckle when you said you put the laundry in a bin, as a bin in the UK is something we put rubbish/garbage into, so I thought it meant you were throwing your laundry away.😀

      @teliciamckee9477 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How many hours do you work a week? That is where I struggle. The work vs home hours.

    • @HereIAm247
      @HereIAm247 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@teliciamckee9477 What are your work hours? (and when do you have to leave in the morning?)
      I am out of the door 6.45, and are home between 17.15 and 17.45 (I have about 1 hour transportation time in each 'end'. So I have about 5 hours to myself after work, before I have to go to bed. And I never really get enough sleep, since I find it hard to sleep before 23.00.
      And of these 5 hours, I have to cook, clean, study (I am writing a report for my final exam over the next 15 weeks, and on top of that, I have a 5 week course in excel to complete as well). So it is not much time to relax, exercise, and do what I want.
      However - when I do the morning routine, and keep the dishes at bay, things goes much more smoothly, and I am less stressed. So even just working those few things into the morning routine really makes a difference. :)

    I have found it easiest on the weeks that are zones 1 & 5 to dedicate 2 days to each zone. That way something gets done in both, and I stay on schedule with everyone else. It doesn't get out of hand, and usually every other month or two 1 & 5 have a full week. Love your videos and the FB group! 😍

    I literally organized my home office 15 minutes at a time! It took me about 5 days! I’m not kidding there were years of files and paperwork! I had recently discovered the flylady system and had been unsuccessful before so thought to try the 15 minute timer routine. I would get so overwhelmed that I would never accomplish much. I started setting the timer and working for 15 minutes then I would read for 15 minutes. Resetting the timer each time! It may sound hokey but it worked! When I feel overwhelmed these days. I do the same! You can do anything for 15 minutes! 😉

    Steph, I know EVERYONE says this but I found you just 3 days ago and I'm hooked! I already have a control journal called my Key, as it has the keys to how my house can function well through cleaning, meal planning, calendar, to dos, passwords etc. :) THANK you for all the videos, I've been watching a ton and I love all your tips, encouragement. I'm starting this system with you in September as i looked at the website a couple years ago and completely walked away as it was far too cluttered and confusing. Your videos made it clear, always to the point. Please keep it up! ❤

    I agree with you. 🔲I dropped the emails years ago and very rarely visit her website. 🔲The morning and before bed routines are golden. I can zip through them quickly. And, if I skip a step it’s not the end of the world. 🔲Weekly Home Blessing. It’s been a challenge for me. But, it’s getting easier recently. I may not do it on Monday. I may not do it all in one day. But, it generally gets done. 🔲 Zones: I like having the zones laid out where week #1 is the front entrance and living area for me, week #2 is always the kitchen, week #3 bathrooms and laundry closet, week #4 bedrooms, week #5 is the upstairs living area, utility closet and craft supply closet. I’m okay with fewer days for zones 1&5. I seemed to resist zone cleaning. I’d put it off to later then play catch-up or skip it. So recently - I’ve given each month a sort of theme or focus. July and August were mostly about cleaning and decluttering the 60 drawers in our home. Working on the drawers as my 15 minute zone tasks. September will wrap-up drawers and focus on closets and the food pantry.

    I love that you say you don't do what doesn't work for you and encourage others to do the same. Some people seem to get so frustrated when this system is to make life easier! I live alone (with my dogs which helps create a bit of dirt/clutter but I still don't need to do everything on WHB every week and living in a small space (1000 sq ft) makes it easier to keep the place clean since I've decluttered. You and Jill help keep me on task!

    I love the idea of looping the zones! I use the Fly Lady Plus app, so I won't always be in the same zone as the app, like you said. But, if I get off track, I can look at my lists and pick up where I left off, OR just go ahead and pick up in the zone that Flly Lady and the app are in.
    Steph, I really appreciate you. I've been slowly and steadily climbing out of a complete wreck of a house for 3 years, and even though I seriously still have a long way to go to get it to a normal level of tidyness, I am now proud of my messy and chaotic space, because I'm seeing the slow transformation every day and every week. I started out with The Organised Mum Method and could not grasp Fly Lady at all. I didn't need the Baby steps. I already have a lot of similar routines in place. I need how to actually break down all of the non daily cleaning so that I'm not spending huge chunks of time on it each day. I modified my zone cleaning so many times , I lost count, but always went back to TOMM as my baseline system. However, most of the tips I got for modifying my routines came from Fly Lady influencers like you, That Awkward Mom, Today With Terri K and others, and The Clutter Bug. Then I tried the Weekly Home Blessing a few weeks back. With my own list of weekly tasks, and I loved it! I played That Awkward Mom's WHB hour video while I worked. Then, about a week ago, a light bulb went on about how to break down the monthly, seasonal and rotating jobs so that I can focus on one zone per week, and so that I take 15-45 minutes per day on each zone. And yes, I use my timer for on-daily tasks. I use zone 1 as my outside, because in my opinion, no system gives any significant attention to the outside. And because when I had it as my last zone, by tge time that zone week came around, it wouldn't get the same amount if attention as zones 1 and 2. Also, my kitchen and the rest of that zone are now in zone 4, because I'm constantly in that zone cleaning and tidying, so it's not a big deal if it gets missed on occasion. Zone 3 us the living room and the 4est of that zone, and my bedroom and the rest of that zone 8s level 2 (for the same reason as zone 4. As for zone 5, I added a zone 5 as my Flex Zone (got thst idea from Carry Grace). In that zone, I allow myself to add up to 4 tasks that I either missed or want to get ahead on. They can be cleaning jobs or planning tasks or catching up on works in progress on my needlework, or learning a new skill, or catching up with a loved one, or whatever I want. And I can schedule them into my zone cleaning slots for the week.
    I don't know why it took me 3 years for it to click in my head. But I'm glad it did. And I'm so happy I found ladies like you to help me figure it all out. My home is still in some chaos (not entirely), but I'm now proud of it. And for the past few weeks. I have not over-thunk it or over-stressed how to make this home transformation and maintenance easier for me. And now I love the Fly Lady system! No, I don't do all of her routines. But alot of them I already had in place for years. Before I ever considered following her at all. My concepts for my routines are similar to hers.

Then I’ve deep cleaned as much as I can so that i can hit the ground running. I even booked a week of work to accomplish this. I knew that if I didn’t see instant results in the main living areas I would quit. I now can try and maintain the main living areas and use the rest of the system and zone thing to slowly get the other rooms up to speed. So excited to start!

So all my windows aren't washed yet, but my floors are clean, my bathrooms are clean, I am way on top of the dusting and that feels great! I am more of a clean mama system person so I'm just using my Tody app and making my own schedule. I don't have kids so I'm sure I have it a LOT easier than lots of you! Thank You for helping us get organized too! I wonder about how you do to remember the things that needs attention only a few times a year? Like cleaning ventilation filters or testing the fire alarm etc. Can You please do a video about that? Love from swedish grandmother 🤗💕

      Here's how I'm starting to do it do it:
      1. Zone 1 is my outside, because it needs the most boot camp work and it always gets pushed aside by the end of the month if I put it as the last zone.
      2. Zones 2-4 are inside, starting with again, the most likely to be missed zone, and ending with the one I hit most often.
      3. Zone 5 is a flex zone. In This zone, each time week 5 comes around, I will list up to 4 things I want to either catch up on, get ahead on, or whatever. They do not all have to be cleaning tasks. They can be other things (I e., hobbies, a phone call, whatever), that I want to get on top of. And that can even include a fun activity. Kind of like an anti-pricrastinstion week lol.
      Also, for Zones 2-4, I know which jobs are monthly, which are seasonal, and which are just rotating "I'll get to it when it's next on my list" jobs. So. After my Weekly Home Blessing on the first day of the week, each day after that goes as follows:
      Day 2: 1 seasonal job or rotating section (pick up where I left off in thatt zone). 15 minutes tops for the rotating job, or whatever time I need for the seasonal job. If I have any seasonal job that needs to be done in that zone, I'll do that first, and focus on the rotating jobs the next time I'm in that zone
      Day 3: 1 monthly task (for me, it's Rag dust all visible surfaces and items on the surfaces)....15 minutes tops.
      Day 4: Clean whichever bathroom shower is in that zone (I have 3, 1 in each zone) and mop all the floors in that zone (I have all hard floors excluding the office). This job takes me 30-45 minutes.
      Day 5: Detail vacuum the floors in that zone. 15 minutes tops.
      Also, my days ste numbered because my days off from non-daily routines change every 1-2 months.
      I really struggled for a long time trying to figure put how to divide up tge monthly, seasonal and the other rotating jobs, and no ckeaning system, including Fly Lady, seemed give me a clear picture on how fit all the different levels of cleaning in. It finally dawned on me to dedicate each zone cleaning day for a different level of cleaning. Hope this helps.

    I can't wait to dive in! I've never done the fly lady baby steps, I kind of I'm trying somethings by myself, but, one year later, my house and life in general is still pretty messy 😢 I have big troubles with establishing routines because I want to do so many things I can't keep with it all 😕 plus, all the cleaning (zone, WHBH, hotspot, swish &swipe) is just a blured foggy dream it he distant horizon. my 2 sons are staring school tomorrow and I MUST bring some order to my mind and house. I'm trying my best to not focus on perfection and just keep going. Thanks for sharing your blessings with us!

    • @thatswhatisaid8908
      @thatswhatisaid8908 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The baby steps are perfect to begin with. The first time i tried it, i rushed ahead, tried to do too much and got overwhelmed. This way, you will build your morning and evening routines to suit YOU, and then you can add your Weekly Home Blessing, and then go on to decluttering/zone cleaning. You have GOT this!

    I definitely need to do this challenge for motivation. I really fell off the wagon for almost a month. My house shows for it :( Now with school on line, have the kids home. Dishes were piling up, I hadn't swept the floor in who knows how many days. ugh just felt unmotivated. I love how real you are and honestly I'm motivated and determine to change things around. Thank you for motivating us and not letting us fall in a rut. Super excited to start on Tuesday !!!

    I just starting following your site. Love this 21 day clean you are doing! It's a really do-able intro into the Flylady system, which I had heard about and was equally intrigued and terrified as I heard how confusing it was. After day 12 of your day to day, I also watched Diane of Denmark's 31 day babysteps videos. It was very helpful a good explanation of the Flylady system, but I can already tell that I approve of the stuff you cut out. I've printed out all of your schedules and I will definitely be following the Flylady system ala The Secret Slob. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences. It's really helpful.

      Sheryl Chapman yesss!! A checklist is the only way I can accomplish anything in a day! But it’s needs to be only 4-5 main things on that list! Anything over 6 could be a struggle!

    • @tiffanylarson2104
      @tiffanylarson2104 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The thing that really helps me with the ADD and overwhelm is to always break it down with the timer. Even when you think about having to declutter, knowing it's only 15 minutes in one area will help you overcome the heaviness.
      You can do it!

    The whole zone weeks have been confusing for me to, i think i will take your advice and try to see what works best for me in September 💗 i love the way Diane In Denmark teaches this system, it has been around forever but it never really stuck for me until i came across her videos. You are great at it too, so wish i had motivating moms like you when my kids were little. Such a positive influence you are 🥰

      Zone 5 gets a lot more use in my home than zone 1 (we have an eat-in kitchen so we only use the dining room for holidays/guests). The only months for certain, Zone 1 gets a full week is in November and December because of the holidays, plus whichever month Easter falls into. It works for me!

    I never was able to accomplish the Zone Cleaning it was to confusing for me. I started following the Clean Mama method for awhile and loved it. I need a complete reset to start over so I figure this is the perfect time to start with it being a new month tomorrow. I am going to try your modified version of the Flylady System and see if it works better for me. Hopefully it will work and if not maybe I can come up with something that blends the Clean Mama system and your modified Flylady system. I am excited to try your 21 days though!

    Yippee! 😁 When you first introduced the 21 days printable, I thought, “That will be perfect for about two weeks into the school year, when I’ve been working nonstop, my home is a mess, and I need to rebalance my life and rebuild routines!” It happens every year. (This year more than ever... any other teachers feel like they have a brand new job in the exact same classroom this year? 🤣) And here you are, doing a series with it at JUST the right time! I’m in!

    Your hair looks so pretty ! It always does, but today it looks a little more special. :) I think the thing to remember about the Fly Lady system is she is older and doesn't have a young family. Diane is very high energy, I'm the opposite, but either way a clean tidy home can be easy, especially if you strive for a more minimalistic approach to your stuff. tfs💗

    Several years ago I changed to 4 zones that way I am touching each zone every month. I start zone one on the 1st Monday of the Month. I do zone four on 4th Monday. For those months that have 5 Mondays i either focus on those areas that need extra help or if i had missed a zone do it then.
