    Keep in mind the catalyst to cerakote rate changes based off of the type of cerakote you are using.
    Pro tips you won't find online: Instead of spray painting your entire firearm in cerakote, use a cerakote E 'elite' or H base and cook that. After that, use krylon "Or similar" and do your paint job. If you want to change that paint job down the road, you can simply use paint thinner and remove it and it will not affect the elite finish. You can also use the base coat as I mentioned, then use krylon and go over it with "cerakote C" in a clear coating which is a much more robust finish, but also removeable.
    Things cerakote tries to keep on the downlow... You can use regular spray paint consmetically and cover it with their clear finish in elite series or even the h series and cool it over the paint job. It you want it real strong, do it two coats within a 10-minute window at room temerature and take straight to the oven and cook. You can always paint over your clear finish as well and remove anything you don't like with paint thinner etc.
    Lastly, you can cerakote over hydro dipping.

    Pretty good vid, overall. But man, you might want to think about getting a respirator. I've sprayed Cerakote under many lighting conditions and you'd be surprise at how large a ball of mist it produces that just hangs in the air for quite a while. You don't notice it unless the lighting is just right, but it's there, especially when you're sheltered overhead and the air is still. Breathing that stuff is super not good. Regarding the shade differences, I've experienced that with parts sprayed at the same time with the same batch of Cerakote and heat cured at the same time in the same oven. They sometimes come out two slightly different shades. It's bizarre, and I don't get it. It makes sense if one part is aluminum and one is polymer, and they're cured at different temps, or if one part is hard-coat anodized and one is bare aluminum, but when they are essentially two identical hunks of aluminum, it doesn't add up. The only thing I can think of is possibly a disparity between coat thicknesses, since that's really the only possible variable.

  • @bradentokoly
    @bradentokoly 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Does the Cerakote impart any “flavors” into food baked in the oven after the parts are cured? Also, do you find the convection function helps evenly cure parts? My wife says there’s a time for convection and a time for no convection… food not her AR parts.

  • @deucedeuce1572

    Looks great. Always wanted to do my own Cerakote, but it's not the easiest thing to do. I know it don't have to be as complicated as they make it... but it's still not easy and it's not cheap to pay for screw-ups when trying to learn. Despite it being a far better coating than most others, it's definitely cheaper than them. I think it's ridiculous with some of them they make you buy and destroy an entire can all at once, so if you just want to do a couple parts you have to sacrifice an entire can. Cerakote's a good one for DIY too, because if you just have small parts you can use an airbrush... and that will massively reduce waste, like when you're done and have to clean out your sprayer.

    I just watched someone trained by Cerakote. That person warned against using the oven you bake / cook in for this process. Just thought you might want to know.

    • @blueeyeddevil1
      @blueeyeddevil1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that's pretty sketchy. Also, spraying without a respirator is a huge no-no with Cerakote.

    I want to do this to Titanium and Stainless, and make them black.
    How difficult is it to coat the stainless?
    And the item in question is a knife, but how do I do it without covering the lettering and steel type that’s etched on the blade?
    Like how Spyderco does the DLC, and compare it to their standard finishes, the logo and etching looks silver?
    And I’ve seen custom makers do their own coating in Spyderco’s and they even make the usually black etching silver?
    And is there anything you can use rather than a house oven?
