    Belle surprised me the most.
From her previous performances I already knew that Karsu can sing everything and can put a lot of emotion in her songs.
Belle didn't impress me with her first performances but with her last 2 she went out of her comfort zone and sang amazing metal (check out her Strange Machines) and a perfect French chanson.

Can only agree. I have watched Belle’s performance on the Belgian Liefde voor Muziek and she didn’t impress me much. In Beste Zangers she surprised me and she grew more and more on me. And now this stunning performance…wow. You have to understand Lara Fabian is Belgian and for an other Belgian singer to do this song takes some guts and confidence. Belle Perez should do more what she showed in Beste Zangers. It helps that the other artists in the show are very great musicians. Everyone of course loves Karsu.

Yes Valerie, well chosen, this duet with Belle Perez and Karsu as highlight of Beste Zangers 2021 this season. Even Lara Fabian would be proud listening to this cover. The emotional oriental touch of Je suis Malade to the french connection makes this song very epic.

Belle has shown herself to be a very strong metal singer and a fantastic duet partner. All her duets in this episode are a joy to listen to. In this one, it's quite clear Karsu needed an anchor to even do it at all. Her emotion is absolutely raw and very possibly could have spun out of control without Belle. You can see it in her eyes, I feel, standing behind Karsu and joining her later: steady, girl. Belle absolutely goes there too but if she'd thrown herself into it the way Karsu does, I think it would have become a mess. Belle did exactly what is needed and what she was asked to do and that deserves recognition if it is less flashy. If Belle ha'd been less skilled, Karsu would have been forced to scale back as not to overwhelm but Belle expertly holds her own, and like a dance partner, steadies and lifts Karsu who is, well, Going Through It. She looks completely ravaged at the end of the video.

Suzanne, I am actually pretty sure that this song means a lot more to Karsu than to Belle... Esspeccially since the part of Karsu was written for her by her best friend and is totally inspired on "things" that happened to Karsu.. So therefor the emotional load of the song was way higher for Karsu than for Belle.. Maybe that's why she was so "ravaged" at the end of the video! Personally I felt my eyes water during Karsu's parts: Not understanding a word Turkish but the sound and emotion in it..WOW!! And yes, Belle also did her work nicely, although the accent in her French language was a bit disturbing to me.. Anyway...thanks Valerie for this reaction again! Too bad YT blocks the actual videos since it is way nicer to see what you see when reacting..

The original song is in French and was written by Serge Lama. Lara Fabian’s version is indeed one of the most well known covers. Belle sang the original lyrics in French, Karsu sang in Turkish.
For me, this was indeed the highlight of the season.

In fact, this song was made famous by Dalida. She didn’t have a powerful voice but she was a master at passing the emotion. Lara Fabian and others gave much power to the song so that the emotion couldn’t leave them. Karsu has succeded to pass the emotion to the audience despite or maybe with the help of her mistakes which makes her seem more vulnerable, more “malade”.

To be able to sing this song, you have to open the door to your inner pain and emotions or else it simply will not come across.
Belle opened that door somewhat but Karsu?... Karsu opened every barndoor she could find in her soul and kicked them all wide open, what a performance!!
I never thought there would be someone who would equal Lara Fabian in this song, but for me .. Karsu most certainly is that equal. (her part was in Turkish, translated and adjusted for her own situation)
We've all fallen for her, her beauty is way more than skin deep, she's smart, funny, honest, humble, free, a great smile, has one hell of a voice on her, and yes.. she's cute to behold as well. (i know, bit shallow remark that last one but doesnt make it any less true)
I've enjoyed every singer this season and few have really surprised me because i knew what they were bringing to the table (like Roel, Alides, Hendrik Jan Bokkers, and ofc Anneke) but i didnt know too much about Karsu at all... but dang it, she had me from episode one and kept proving each week that it wasnt a fluke, she is the standout performer this season for me.
A shame the season has already ended... maybe they need to add 2 more singers to the total so they can stretch the season a little more hehehe. (and have longer episodes!)
Thnx for the react Valerie, knowing how much you enjoy the show and singer's abilities, i knew this one would be right up your ally :)

Karsu really lived this one. Belle was, in a technical way, the best, but I have trouble feeling her emotions in just any song. Wonderful to see that Lara Fabian showed 'French' emotions and Karsu 'Turkish'. Je suis malade, as talented as I think BELLE is, she is not quite as emotionally connected to the song as KARSU, and for that reason I wish KARSU sang this song alone. I am actually a big fan of BELLE, she can really belt! For proof, please watch her rendition of “strange machines”, by ANNEKE.
I saw an interview with KARSU. She said that she picked this song because of her emotional connection with her break up, and that she’s always admired it. But she also said she really wanted somebody who speaks French to sing it with her as a duet. She actually chose Belle from the beginning of the season to be her duet partner, so that they can do this song together with the Belle singing in French. So even though Belle didn’t have the same emotional connection, it’s a well-known song in her native Belgium, and she really didn’t mind singing it with KARSU. It was KARSU and a TURKISH friend who translated her own verse into Turkish lyrics. We already know that KARSU is Turkish as well.
