I still remember watching Joker followed by this on USA every afternoon. Reminded me of just a few years earlier when the late WKBS out of Philly carried both shows in the same order at 6pm.
It was quite possibly a replacement for the short-lived Play The Percentages (Geoff Edwards). Had they not messed around with the format so much, PTP might have been more successful.

I may be off a little bit on it but I believe GSN is prohibited from airing CConcentration reruns because of that situation. I also believe that it was NBC that insisted that Trebek gets to host it as well. I just looked up on Wikipedia, before 1973 (when Jack Narz hosted it) it had the Barry-Enright production tag on it but it also said NBC produced it during that time as well, suggesting that NBC had owned the Concentration franchise from day one.
Barry-Enright created and originally produced Concentration. When they were implicated in the quiz show scandals, they sold the rights to NBC. The network licensed Concentration to Goodson-Todman in 1973 for about 20 years, after which the rights reverted to NBC. They still own the show today.
Recorded at NBC Studios cause of the annoying whistling sound effect. I'm glad they moved to CBS in '81 so we didn't have to hear the sound effect anymore.
This will forever be one of my top game shows of all-time and it had one of my favorite hosts of all time for sure in Mr. Jim Lange. When I started watching game shows as a young boy in about 1986 this show had been off the air in the first run and even in the very short time that I got to see it I enjoyed it so much its not even funny. Shows like this ,Tic Tac Dough (Martindale) ,Chain Reaction (Cullen and later Edwards) and also the "All New Let's Make a Deal" made me very happy to be a game show fan and even now 32 years later this show for me is still one that holds up well God Bless Bullseye ,B&E and last but certainly not least...Jim Lange! I've only watched jokers wild once. It was boring. Never watched it again. The host was incompetent as he gave the contestant more money than he won. The host was also rude to the female contestant.
One thing that often bothered me about this show is Jay would mention a new car, but no car plug was done. Other B&E shows did car plugs, but Bullseye didn't seem to for some strange reason. Another thing that bothered me is if a player had a 5 question contract, they could get 4 right, miss one, and the other player could win an entire contract, and possibly a game, with just 1 right answer. I always felt to win a contract, both players should have had to answer the same number of questions, and the first to do so would have the choice to bank or continue playing.

Eric, The categories used on this episode, as well as the contract number, used a font called Univers. Judging by the looks of it, it appears to be a bold or heavy font. This font uses numbers rather than a descriptor for the type of fonts. Univers Pro 75 is used by the categories and the "Bonus Island" cash amounts, while a bolder Univers Pro 85 is used for the contract amount. Be prepared though to pay an arm and a leg, as official fonts can cost a lot of money.
This show fascinated me, mainly because of the spinning board and sound effects, when I saw it back in 1981 or so. I only saw it in Florida visiting my grandmother. I live in Chicago, IL, and it must have not been syndicated in Chicago. I have "been on" this show at gaming conventions. A company called Home Game Enterprizes (www.homegameenterprizes.com) puts on accurate game show replicas.
From what I read on forums, Chicago did not carry Bullseye. Neither did my market-- San Francisco. (There, you had to be lucky enough to have WOR on cable, or be able to aim your antenna to pick up KOVR from Sacramento.)

Also, the bonus scoreboard had spaces for 7 numbers/characters, but it only needed 5 (one for the $ and up to four more for the money). The read out just looked off to me, not being centered and all.

+SuperPat88: If I had been in charge of the format, I would have had every question be a jump-in, and then whoever answered the required number of questions first would be given credit for completing the contract. I don't like how the game gave the contract to whichever player answered the final question, regardless of who answered all the previous ones.
+jhillst Honestly, I'd keep the contract format, but with one major change: if a question stumps both players, the contract is voided, but the pot retained the money from previous right answers. Whoever gave the last right answer controls the next spin. This would help keep games from dragging too long due to getting stuck in a category that keeps stumping the players.
+HarlemHyena: Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I still think the contract should be awarded to the player who answers the *most* questions, not the player who simply answers the final question. They could do this either by A) making every question a jump-in, or B) requiring the player who steals control after a wrong answer to answer *all* the required questions in the contract, not just the remaining ones. I've seen at least two games in which one contestant answers 90% of the questions and still loses to an opponent that answers only 1-2 questions at the end. That's a serious flaw in the game if you ask me.
