This episode was hilarious!! I love watching game shows that I grew up watching and this is one of them!! Hope there are more episodes to watch this weekend!!
I noticed the man said 'this is the best thing that's ever happened to me' with his wife sitting right in the audience! Neat to see the commercials; I didn't know they had LCD TV's back then! Junior Mints, and I remember Commander USA! Thanks for the upload!
DBR00 He was the overall best in the business. Even his fellow emcees over the years acknowledged that as well. Hosted more game shows than anybody else. It was a sad day in 1990 when he passed away.
One of the best game show hosts ever. I believe he took over after Jack Barry passed. He did the same thing for Password+ when Allan Ludden was dying of cancer. The producers were contractually obligated to finish the seasons and they knew Bill Cullen wouldn't let them or the viewers down. RIP Bill.
The reason Bill Cullen was pretty much at the podium when he was introduced was two fold. One he had survived a bout with polio when he was 18 months old in 1921 and he was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident in 1937.
Now that's interesting. Of all the TJW vids I've found here on TH-cam, this is the only one I've come across (thus far), where a challenger won the game because the champion's math was off as to how many questions would have to be answered correctly on a "Bid" category (with respect to the value of the questions) to be able to accumulate enough money to either tie or beat the opponent's score. I don't recall that happening too often.
+Cecil Richardson I believe there is an episode where an champion lost because he couldn't figure out to go off the board and use the Fast Forward category
In case I have studied at home, on Los Angeles TV Station KHJ-TV Channel 9, this show was aired on Wednesday, December 5, 1984 (first-run); Wednesday, August 7, 1985 (reruns).
+Thomas Schofield I remember in the summer of 1985, KHJ reran episodes from Jack Barry's final year in the afternoon, and the Bill Cullen shows in the evening.
My favorite period for commercials is around 1970 (immediate post-MAD MEN era) to the turn of the millennium. The 2000's brought about a change (I cannot exactly explain what) in TV advertising that ended an era. Perhaps being born in 1980 & having a memory stretching back to around 3 years old, there is a definite feeling of comfort in watching them from then.
same here. Reagan was president, i just started H.School..the music was chill/kick-ass, racism was at an all-time low(it seemed), and I had Duran Duran hairdo to get women lol
Back in 1986 when USA Network was showing game shows like "The Joker's Wild" with Bill Cullen, it was then their own lineup worth watching. And as the Devil took a hike for this episode, it was from season 8 when the Audience Game was revised with two onstage members of the studio audience, and a home viewer who used a touch-tone telephone to play along, in this final season for the Audience Game and the Joker Home Bonus, and rights to this game show in reruns now belong to Sony Pictures Television. Thanks for this special upload, as it was quite a Wild remembrance.
and dude needed 450 to tie and 500 to win..which would be 9 questions to tie and 10 questions answered right for the win, and he said SIX? Maybe he choked due to having to do math on the quick spot? lol. I'd have asked for 10 questions. why go all that way just for the tie? lol. THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD!
At 6:00, we know that there are only TWO ways to win or catch up: 1) TO get three jokers(the obvious) OR 2) to get the Bid category. However, the man on the right must have failed in math........
Darrel Jones As far as I know, the only person to get 3 Jokers on their final spin (when they needed it [since it was the only thing that could save them] in an attempt stave off the end of their championship reign) was Hal Shear. Thus far, I've only come across one episode on TH-cam.
+BaseballChef I would have to say that Minnie Carlquist probably had no idea she'd end up going home with $1,205 ($1,125 from the bonus game + the $80 from the preliminary) and a brand-new living room set, especially when in Hollywood on a family reunion. I bet that gave her an interesting story to tell her grandchildren!
If the category were Joes and Joeys, the question I might have probably been asking (if I were the host) would have been something like this: "This Joey is one of Hollywood's biggest stars today; she has had such hits as The Kissing Booth and Bullet Train, among many others. What is her last name?" Player: "King." Me (host): "Right, for $100!"
No. Jack Barry had the substitution host Jim Peck for several years and was going to retire and pass the hosting duties permanently to Peck at the start of 1984-85 season. But when Jack died suddenly in May of 1984, his partner Dan Enright gave the job to Bill Cullen since everyone on The Joker's Wild staff all wanted Jim Peck to take over. Also, in the fall of 1984, that's when Jeopardy debuted, and Wheel shot to the top of the game show ratings overtaking Dawson's Family Feud and Tic Tac Dough.
"My fantasy @ home with greg-winslow the invisible-troupe & myself inside the abandoned acme-market route-61 in shamokin land of messopotamia northumberland-county ioml".
Here's a good question. Bill died four years later so if the show was still on the air and Cullen was still hosting it, would Jim Peck replace him or might it be Pat Finn or someone else?
isn't if funny when ever someone wins money in the money game bill always has the exact amount in his hand. lol I wish the game show net work would put this on
Hey Charles! Uh, the 50's called...they want their "military buzzcut" back! But you're in luck, Chuck, 'cause I happen to know a (Mc)"fly" guy with a time machine and his mentor, "Duc!" (Doc!) :-D ;-P
USA Network aired reruns of the Bill Cullen Version of The Joker's Wild, but GSN aired reruns of Cullen's Final Season from 1985/1986, but never the 84/85 Season I wonder what the deal was
The first guy who owns a flower shop and claims to be doing well can't do basic math. Wonder how that turned out for him? The commercials are great! I called the 1-800 numbers to see if they were still in service. The Casio pocket TV number called the Red Cross! Good to know. The old ladies at the end were sweet. However I couldn't help but notice how simple minded people really are.
There really isn't a lot of 1984-85 season Joker episodes on TH-cam. THis may be the first besides the premiere, which was taped off WOR on its OB on 9/10/84. The 1985-86 Cullen season aired on GSN(the first two-thirds or so of it did anyway) in 1998-99. USA was the last time the 1984-85 season of Joker was shown.
Zach Horan True in the USA. This season of TJW (or at least a portion of it) was shown on the British cable station 'Lifestyle' in 1989 and 1990 under their "Great British Gameshows" strand (they also showed some of what will have been the last 1984 Barry shows around the same time). At the time I found it curious that the show was still credited to "1984 Jack Barry Productions" despite Cullen being the host; of course back then we knew little of the US gameshow industry and I just assumed that Barry must have retired as host and continued as producer.
Jason james Great *American* Gameshows, of course ;) I really wish I'd kept some of the tapes of those shows (I wasn't around during the day so watched them at the weekends).
brian schwartz true, but back then 1000 bucks was worht a whole lot more, iidk how much it translates to now, probably close to 10k since cars back then were 2-3 grand n shit

On most game shows (like this one, for example) where a contestant is given an amount of money they won in cash, it's just for show. What usually happens is the contestant receives a check from the show's producers for the total cash part of their winnings. As for prizes (excluding trips), the show's staff can arrange to have them shipped to wherever the contestant's residence is, either from retailers in the city in which the show is produced, or a retailer carrying the prize(s) won, closest to where the contestant lives. As for trips, they usually make arrangements with the nearest travel agency to where the contestant resides.
Just for show though, but yes. Unless it is under a certain amount, then you get to keep the cash... Like "quickie" deals on Let's Make a Deal... Most of those are $200 or less, so you usually can keep the cash on the "quickie" deals.
I refuse to watch it because of Snoop Dogg, he doesn't, nor didn't deserve to carry on the legacy of this show. Because he's a straight up asshole. That's why.

Glad you left in the commercials.... its like a little time capsule. Thanks.
Bill Cullen seemed like a genuine nice guy.

sha11235 yes indeed it is
Just for show though, but yes. Unless it is under a certain amount, then you get to keep the cash... Like "quickie" deals on Let's Make a Deal... Most of those are $200 or less, so you usually can keep the cash on the "quickie" deals.
In regards to trips the general rule is the winner must take it within one year of their episode airing bc of game show standards and practices
