Big Boy 4014 in the Feather River Canyon (Day 8) Portola, California to Roseville, California

- The Big Boy 4014 has made it to the Feather River Canyon. Due to traffic, I could not get to some shots but here's the ones I got. A big thank you to Renorailfan for hanging out with me during the trip and giving me the footage for the loop after my camera died. I had a wonderful time chasing the train and will continue to chase it all the way to Sparks, Nevada. Day 8 is chasing the Big Boy through Portola - Roseville, California. Hopefully I'll get some good shots! Hope you enjoy this video!

I know how you feel. I'm just climbing out of some physical health issues that mentally put me in the dump. These kinds of videos kept my mind off it. Years ago I got invited to go with some retired railway workers in a old private Pullman from Salt Lake City to feather River. $350 . I could not get off work. So I traveled in my mind again for this video. I hope things work out for you.

As much as I love these old steam engines, can U imagine the air quality if all our locomotion was this dirty today?
Truly Iconic! To see and hear a big boy on the Keddie Y must have been incredible. Got to see it up and close at the Roseville Yard, where it did a layover. Most excellent video. BRAVO! and huge thanks for the effort.

Very nice footage! Sadly I was unable to film any scenes of 4014 running, but am blessed to have caught it during its display day in Portola. I plan to post my video of the event soon. Thank you for sharing your videos, and making me feel like I was there!!
Very nice. I had the opportunity to see #4014 in Utah a little over five years ago, and though she was parked in the station, it was quite an experience to see her up close.

Just watched this again, great footage and presentation! Hope you got your shot at the tunnel today near Colfax. We headed back to Auburn to find it, but there were too many cars backed up at the narrow street where it was stopped, we gave up and continued on to Nevada City.
@pauls.7616 I was at the tunnel near Colfax but I heard it wasn't stopping so I went to the bridge instead

The area where tree where burned up was where pg&e high tower cable's fell from rusted up o ring that decaded from rust causing fire in feather River canyon where 4014 was at

Were you the guy with the triple camera setup at Keddie? The angle suggests you were right next to us (my partner and I were the ones in the black/white jacket and the orange vest respectively down at the end of the trail above the tunnel).

Very nice video, especially Williams Loop and Keddie Wye, but what was the reason to this trip? There are no Passenger cars, only freight, baggage and power car.
In order to recoup some of the costs the steam locomotives will haul small manifest revenue freight when deadheading without a passenger consist between major yards

8 Big Boys
8 Big Boys were preserved but only one, 4014, has been restored to full operation. The rest are all static displays.

@@jre617 Not pulling passengers, going over donner pass yesterday they had passenger cars because people bought tickets.

Question: Is the Big Boy actually pulling freight or is it just for show? Also, what is its max speed?
@kempmt1 the freight is just for show, it's max speed is 80 mph but they only run it to 60 mph now.

@@russcudney1469 You peaked my curiosity and found that diesel are subject to emission standards (with some exceptions). However, historic steam locomotives are exempt from the standards both Fed and CARB (to the best that i can find). I know, that doesn’t mean that nobody will complain. That said, I believe that the Big Boy has been converted to oil, which should be better than coal.
