Man the last conversation between Lincoln and Sal is some of the best writing and well preformed acting I have ever seen in a video game. Its somehow the perfect balance of stone cold and heart wrenching. Two very very broken men and sworn enemies just enjoying one last drink before the end of their war. *chefs kiss*
Agreed. I think the genius of it really stems from the (somewhat over-romanticized) idea we have about the mafia. Move on a made man, you’re dead. Move on a man’s family, you’re dead. Move on a superior, you’re dead. And the ending plays into that idea, instead of depicting these people as absolutely amoral and powerhungry mustache-twirling villains, both Sal and Lincoln play by the rules. Sal was the “big bad” until he fucked over someone he shouldn’t have. And it’s good to see an antagonist that realizes they’d fucked up. In a dog-eat-dog world, there’s always a bigger dog and Sal had his reasons - with those reasons gone (killed) there was no point in fighting.
I like that Donovan mentions that he found the files AFTER Lincoln killed Sal. Donovan maybe had an inkling that the mob was involved in JFK's assassination but Donovan had practically no ulterior motives for helping Lincoln, and I find it refreshing.
This game's DLC was super good and surpassed the base game in my opinion. It definitely showed the potential the game could've reached if they had fleshed out the gameplay loop a bit more.
And the variety of them was great too. Faster Baby had a Blaxpolitation-inspired stick it to the man theme, Stones Unturned was a conspiracy-themed pure action one and Sign of the Times was actual horror. I already enjoyed Mafia III despite the repetition, but the DLCs truly elevated that game to one of my favorites. Hope they can match that level with the upcoming game.
the gameplay is great in my opinion but jut not for everyone. The weapons for example are excellent, the recoil, sounds and power is extremely realistic and feels amazing to use.
I would do all racket missons in each district i had open, unlock story misson for each one then do them one by one so the story flows like mafia 1 and 2. i do the dlc missons faster baby, sign of times, and the other one back to back as well
The DCL fucking sucked! Why? Because it completely crashes my game. The two that I could play, the war one and the voodoo one were utter trash in my opinion. So boring.
Especially reading Donovan’s files Sal killed his dad and took out all the other mafia families to become the boss of the city. You can imagine the cunning it took to lead his family like that especially since lou seems more like a party animal Lucho was probably a beast
This game might be repetitive and glitchy but man the story, soundtrack, driving mechanics and shooting mechanics were awesome, Lincoln was an unstoppable terminator
Driving is nothing special (even back then), songs are great (ost is forgettable) and shooting is bland. It's a mid game at best, but since it's a mafia title it should be judged side by side with previous titles and it's just awful in comparison.
@@ArturVaderThe driving was some of the best I've experienced in this type of game. Gta4 was good but the automatic countersteering and terrible gearbox coding were really annoying
The problem with Mafia 3 is how the developers had to jump many hoops to develop it from: - Translating the engine from Czech to English - Developing new technologies alongside the game - Take2 suddenly jumping in and only giving them 2 years to develop it - Development hell that landed the project on Hangar 13's doorstep
My mind changed on Mafia 3 when I stopped playing Lincoln like a Mafia character and more like a guerrilla CIA black ops member. Fast, efficient and brutal, the gameplay became repetitive but in fairly fun way. If this was a standalone IP that had room the breathe in its own space I think it would have been received very differently.
I played it slow and stealth, stacking pile after pile of bodies ;) ... Definitely dragged out the game longer than necessary, contributing to burn out.
Bro I’ve been standing on this hill for years . Mafia 3 might been one of the best open world games from the 2010-2020 decade. Yes some of the tasks were repetitive I agree but the game is built on some rock solid mechanics. The shooting is addictive, the stealth mechanics are pretty solid and Lincoln is like a super heavyweight mma fighter when he starts to melee. I couldn’t get enough of the gameplay loop. And it’s backed by a good story and great soundtrack in my favorite city!
For Real. At no point while I was playing did I think "I'm not having fun". I played it all the way through, with DLC, my brother watched as I laughed like a madman as I set people on fire with cocktails
Game is pretty good, I like how you were able to actually do things with your money but I wish the mafia aspects ran a bit deeper, like this was your opportunity to basically run a family of your own, I feel like they didn’t capitalize on that as much as they could’ve.
I agree man, if you could’ve done a Godfather 2 style crew builder, it would be 10/10. Like you said, Lincoln is the boss of a mob, we should’ve definitely had an opportunity to recruit guys, and promote them from a button man all the way up to a underboss. It would be so cool.
Scarface The World Is Yours is the best game I can think of when it comes to buying weapons and vehicles, upgrading your mansion, investing in properties, upgrading your security and all that other stuff. Not sure why older games with game mechanics like that are so rare these days. I loved decorating my mansion. I do wish the Tiger was actually in the game and it could follow you around. All you see of him is in a cutscene and audio of it being around in the back yard area.
I thought it was a fun game, in moderation. Though it had a lot of untapped potential. I think it would have been an all-time GOAT if it had more of the depth you're talking about and maybe something like Shadow of War's Nemesis system.
It didn't help that it was poorly optimized and looked awful at dawn/dusk. I plan on going back to it even though I finished it when it came out. I remember it being repetitive, but the main issue was that it ran very badly for me.
The writing in the cutscenes is truly excellent and compelling. One thing I noticed is that the scenes playing after the capos are killed varies by the order you do them. Sal will always call Galante after the first one is dead, but it still makes a difference. I chose Tommy first leading to one of the most humanizing scenes for Sal and Giorgi, where it's made very clear how much Tommy's dead affects Sal. In another version Giorgi will be up the moon after having killed Olivia with Sal trying to calm him and bring him back to the facts. The killer always appears after the second capo, where Sal will tell him about the dead capo. And the third? It's always Sal and Giorgi angrily panickin with the capo being mentioned on the side as yet another set back to endure. I don't mind Maguire never meeting Lincoln. In fact I even like the idea of Maguire being obsessed with this case, while Lincoln doesn't even know about him. The scene, where he is paranoid about hearing Lincoln's ghost in his attic adds to this and becomes weirdly funny. "Oh no, Lincoln is haunting me now!" "Haunting who?". It also fits, because Lincoln was done with his rampage once Maguire finally got in his tail. It's only a shame that Nicki appears in just one documentary cutscene. I wish there were more of those to see how she interprets things so long after they happened and how it affected her view of Lincoln. I also like the detail of Vito not only being the best underboss for New Bordeaux to take over, but also being the most professionell one. He had been leading racket slong enough to be experienced. He is also much more patient than the other two. While Cassandra and Burke will practically scream and demand more territory after not getting one twice, Vito will chalk it up to "yeah, yeah I'm the carpetbagger from Empire Bay" and expect it the third time. Additionally during cutscenes he always acts proper and professional and keeps his cool. In short: I like Vito's protrayal here. He let go of his hotheadedness and became a proper Empire Bay gangster, who knows how the game works. The world feels very underutilized unfortunetaly. I remember being in the bayou once, capturing a racist shop owner and practically dragged him out of his shop, walking to the water. He just despawned. Whilst carrying him. It was... a bummer. New Bourdeaux has all the things that could make it memorable as a game world. The inherent racism and classism in the police as shown in their response time differences and how they ALWAYS seem to keep an eye on Lincoln if he is close. Segregation affecting where Lincoln can go. Delray Hollow suffering from the effects of a hurricane and no one caring. The 60s atmosphere and news broadcasts, including Remi Duvall's radio show. It's there. But you barely see it and that's a shame. Something I liked to do was to show up with the same car when commiting some crime. I usually picked the upper middle class car, painted it yellow (I didn't want to change the colour of Lincolns story car, it wouldn't fit with his character) and always used that whenever I started wrecking rackets. I liked this idea of making it a calling card of sorts. Gangsters nervously whispering about that damn yellow car that always appears before hell gets loose, maybe even crapping their pants once it stops in front of THEIR racket. Apologies for the long comment, but I wanted to air out some thoughts about this. I liked the game and didn't find it as repetetitive as it was often said. The gunplay feels very good, which makes it easier to deal with the racket system being almost the entire game. Great video, keep it up. :)
If they at least gave you something to do in the city like going to bars, visiting brothels, maybe a romance option (they could have done that in Faster Baby DLC but they wasted that) etc.
@@MrAjking808 but the fact that they give you so many interiors to get in and after taking over the racket you can’t do anything in it is really lazy.. didn’t said that they need every feature that GTA has but some bare minimum stuff to broke up the tedious destruction of rackets. They did try something with DLCs but not enough imo
It's funny because while I had my crticisms of mafia, like the horrible color palette, when this was first announced I remember reading fake outrage about lincoln being black and in a mafia game. Always amazes me how some people constantly move the goal post and think we forget.
Another theory for you about Joe. Look at Lincolns face at 0:29. Remember that Joe was in "the south" during Vitos prison time, before Joes Adventure DLC starts to play. Lincoln doesnt know his father, it is round about 20 years ago. Count 1 and 1 together and you get.....right!
*Crazy how even after all these years they still haven't fixed the technical issues with the game, how do you screw up so badly that even half of the ACHIEVEMENTS are bugged.* *And here's the kicker, at one point they DID fix the achievements by 1.09, but when they released the next Gen upgrade for the game, it actually made the game worse, not only performance wise but also undid some of stuff the earlier patches fixed, and once again the achievements were broken AGAIN, and for some reason they never bothered to fix them again.* *They're not impossible to get, but you have to do them without exiting the game, crashing, or turning off your console, or else the in game counter resets and breaks the achievements, sometimes requiring you to new game all over again. Crazy how even Mafia 2 "definitive" edition doesn't have this issue despite being even buggier than Mafia 3*
Yeah I want to get platinum trophy but I have a game breaking bug, in the first section of the game 💢😡 The Bank Cash Heist, legit the first mission I cant escape the sewer tunnels off the boat because my game crashes.
This game was heavily influenced by gta 5 with mafia 3 only coming out 3 years after 5, not only did they put Michael and Frank special abilities in the game they made the game action packed like gta 5 completely different from mafia 2
I feel like so many people sleep on this game simply coz it wasn't like the first two mafia games. But it's actually really good, just has the big downside of the repetitive gameplay. But has such a fun story and character cast. The repetitive gameplay is what put most people off but arguably has the best story in the entire trilogy
@@AlibucketsBeats Yep🫡👊🏿. But I ended up seeing more people end up calling it a bad game and crapping on the story when they just truly never gave it a chance. So there's actually a large section of the Mafia fanbase who have only played the first game but never went thru the second or third entries in completion. But yeah always good to see people come around on the game coz it's one of my favourite stories in gaming. Just a shame how bland their mission structure was
Funny enough, i enjoyed the gameplay so much that i played through the whole game twice, first when it came out then with all the dlcs later on and enjoyed it the same, shows that it really depends on if people like the gameplay loop of a game or not
@@gyp3871 Ayye nice! Yeah true. Me I loved it. The Mafia trilogy has always been one of my favourite franchises. But yeah I can see how the repetitive gameplay puts some people off. But yeah the gameplay loop ends up being key for people if they aren't already sucked in by a games story/lore. In my case the gameplay got boring after the first chapter but the story/lore always had me hooked.
@@TheOnlyTapsfunny enough the first is the worst in my opinion, felt cheesy and a caricature of mobsters than actual mobsters. 2 was a chore to go through, but story was a decent mob flick esque game, 3 chef's kiss
The game had so much potential. I had a lot of fun with it, but after a certain point it just became repetitive as hell. And as Black Southerner (Texan🤠🇨🇱) one thing that bugged me throughout the whole game was that they got white people's accents right but not black people's. Black folks in South Louisiana have such a unique, distinct accent that's immediately recognizable but they decided to give everyone a black Mississippi accent. Every time I heard a super deep rural Mississippi drawl, I had to remind myself that New Bordeaux, LA is not New Orleans, LA and suspend my disbelief.
Mafia 3 has a great story actually, the acting, voice acting, overall story with cutscenes with the soundtracks are amazing. The problem with the game was always optimization and the district capture mode. Man, I did NOT had a good time playing the district captures but the story missions always rocked. I am planning a re-run because the game nailed the atmosphere. Hangar 13 learned their lesson and as M1DE was a blast to play, I can't wait for the newest game. I really believe they have what it takes to create a great story game.
If you have it on PC play it with the community patch mod, it's a simple drag and drop that gets rid of unnecessary grinding and balances out the difficulty as well
Great video, I really like the nuance approach in acknowledging the good in here along with the bad. Many videos dismissing it as 100% trash and I don't feel that's accurate.
It's just them jumping on that wagon because they're too afraid to give their own opinions, imagine being too scared to actually say what you want because you care about the clout.
Yes, it's repetitive AF, and the gameplay loop is fully experienced after 2 hours. But the basics of that loop, the shooting and the driving (especially if set on simulation) are so well done that have the power to carry you all the way to the end. I didn't care that the objectives were repetitive, but just having to drive all the way there feeling like Steve McQueen in Bullit, and shooting my way through enemies like Jonh Wick was more than enough to sing 50+ hours into this game and complete it.
I always liked how the order in which you killed off the underbosses would show off different cutscenes, or how you could leave Marcano to end everything himself if you didn’t want to throw him out of the window (which also has different animations based on where you attack him). As for the ending and how to choose a certain underboss to rule, it would depend both on loyalty and the amount of money the underboss makes by the end of the game if I remember correctly.
The game story was repetitive for the consistent damage feature but at the end of the day, if you were just to look at the cutscenes and the DLC stories this is one of the best well-written games ever❤
Mafia lll is an amazing game it’s just the game mechanics are bad it feels like the game is against you in every way like they want you to fail the missions
First thing I noticed in that scene lol, when I got this it was due to a sale on Xbox so I had 0 idea of what to expect but hearing his voice made me chuckle a bit at that point, honestly every character is well made in my opinion but his just had that familiarity that made him just a good character
Seeing this video is giving me the itch to try this game over again. Like you, i initially bounced off it after playing it for a few hours but I've been waffling over picking it back up again ever since. When i eventually do play it again, I'll have a the PC version play with this time and a PC that's good enough to run it.
One of the more interesting things is that Sal will call Leo three different ways depending on which capo goes down first, same goes for his reach out for the drug dealer and his last stand. I find the Tommy version of the last stand to be the one that feels most canon as he cares little for Olivia, not as much for Lou, but Tommy is the one he cares for the most, trying to get him to be the one legit Marcano out there, but Tommy says no and goes to Havana instead.
You mean the Killing Lou Marcano mission? Or the beginning mission with the boat? If the second, then c'mon man it's the beginning, if it's the riverboat, then that's skill issue
Mafia 3 is definitely a mixed bag of good and bad, and this video downplays the bad part so much to the point that it’s a bit ridiculous to me… Even in your gameplay footage when you talk about the good I can see tons of problems with the game that is never addressed in this video
5:09 Me too. It's not that I consider Vito or Tommy as bad protagonists in the series, nor anything like that. But with Lincoln somehow I feel more related with him, at least when it comes to feel as an outsider, a person who only wants a place and/or a community to belong, to be accepted in the world.
I have mixed views of this game. Driving was decent, shooting was too basic and gameplay loop was almost as bad as Ubisoft games. But the story, characters and voice acting were super good. The onyl character I didn't like was Cassandra. She was too whiney, played the race card when I didn't give her territory she wanted, constantly talked down to Lincoln and just an overall annoyance. Other than that the rest of the characters were amazing. I just wish the gameplay was as good as the story and dialogue was. It nailed a realistic depiction of being black in the 1960s south. It felt nature and real and not forced like a lot of modern games write it. The music is of course amazing as well. Though I mainly liked listening to the talk and news on the radio referencing real life historic events and stuff. I loved the radio in Mafia 2 and how it mentioned they discovered unfiltered cigs were bad and how they believed a filter would be safe, how a home TV became a thing and had 5 channels to watch. I always enjoyed things like that. I'd give the game a hard 7. Maybe realistically a 6.5. Wish the gameplay was more like an improved mafia 2 type thing.
Still one of my favorite lines at 3:26 “you can pray on the way up” with the straight face Lincoln walking away Richie gagging in the back so brutal it’s a really good scene
I didn’t care much about Louisiana until playing mafia 3. Now, I know little details about the city thanks to this game. Even planning on taking a trip there.
34:36 I always assumed that Maguire was supposed to be the corrupt law enforcement that spins everything a certain way to downplay what the mob did and exacerbate what Lincoln did.
Maguire did say that Lincoln was given a bad hand in life, but that doesn't excuse him from all the mayhem he caused in the city. I don't think he's corrupt, more like a proudful guy who couldn't not accept that a black man destroyed the Italian mob and pretty much rebrand it to his own way. Kind of like Frank Lucas, a real gangster who operated without impunity because the law and the other mob families underestimated him for the color of his skin around 1960 to 1970 the same time period that mafia 3 takes place.
If the game just had more ‘conventional’ missions I think the game’s story and mechanics would elevate this to a much higher level in general opinion. And that is especially clear in the DLCs having more traditional missions. Like the game being a ‘dismantler’ isnt a hamper its just done a big worse than it could be
Good video I kinda spoiled Mafia 2 and 3 for myself but hey I'll probably forget before I actually get back to those games I always thought Mafia 3 was unique because you fought the Mafia
The game drags a little here and there but the thing that really got me through it was the characters Lincoln, Donavan and of course Vito returning. I just really dug their journeys and dialogue between each other throughout the story. Also, was I only one who thought Steppenwolf’s song - desperation was put in this game to relate to Lincoln’s story specifically? I always had to listen to it every time it came on when driving. It just fits so damn well.
When i beat mafia 3 I didn’t mind the racket missions much because I got my fair share of stealth combat and money earning by doing them! I guess certain gamers like myself enjoy certain types of mediocrity like in assassin’s creed where you uncover the map using viewpoints!
"Mafia 3" was honestly a great game. However I think some people didn't connect with the game due to its took a civil rights narrative & less about Italian mob vibe. One thing for sure America don't like to be reminded of how racist it can sometimes be....The storyline & voice overs was phenomenal....you can't deny that !!!!! The only thing I feel "Mafia 3" lacks is more to do in its open world. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I understand that this game upset a lot of people for being either not too Mafia enough or for the repetitive gameplay and I accepted that but when you look past all that you can really see where this game shines, the story is great along with its setting and music, just top notch and the voice acting? Who ever was in charge for the VA in this and Mafia Definitive Edition deserves huge raise it’s very well done. That’s being said they coulda more by adding linear missions but keeping the side missions cause the gameplay is still satisfying, more things to do outside the story and added a few more things like multiple saves, fast travel cause the map is kinda big and a new game plus for better replay ability but overall it’s an enjoyable game if you can get passed the flaws.
I always liked when the Veterian talked to Lincoln while Lincoln thinks he is talking down to him he is actually telling him the truth and for the players it foreshadows what happens next
Mafia 3 criticism in a nutshell: "Repetitive" "Why is he black, this is supposed to be mafia" No but for real, there's mafia game fans who can't fathom non-Italian crime families existing.
The word “mafia” implies Italian mob as that is the definition of the word (the Mafia) an organized international body of criminals, operating originally in Sicily and now especially in Italy and the US and having a complex and ruthless behavioural code.
The dude is literally dismantling the foundation of the mob and was invited to run the Hollow. I don't know how much more involved in the mob you're going to get while Lincoln is the protagonist.@@Juanguar
@@Juanguar Sicilians are often not considered 'real' Italians by many people in Italy - and they often consider themselves not Italian too. The origins of the word are arabic because Siciliy was an islamic emirate for two centuries. So Mafia as a word has complex origins - and the richest 'mafia' organization in the world, the 'Ndrangheta, were not considered a mafia organization until 2010, despite being from Italy. So it's not just as simple as 'the mafia are italian mobsters' and I think mafia 3 is related enough to the topic of organized crime to count
i think the first cutscene with giorgi and lincoln proves that at least from lincoln's side he really thought of him as a friend as he has the same smile he had with ellis and sammy. circumstantial sure but the whole vibe was really one of genuine friendship built through being youth shitheadary. and i think the canon ending is the rule together one, based on what maguire says at the beggining, the fact that lincoln was a "new breed of mobster". If all lincoln did was go on his revenge rampage he wouldnt be called a mobster, more like a rambo figure. Also the "new breed" part seems to also indicate that he ruled withouth the usual way of doing things for the mob, like how sal was refferenced to killing anyone he deemed a threat wether real or imagined, which, coincidentally is what donovan proposes at the end with killing the underbosses "to be sure" thus really being little difference between how lincoln would have handled himself opposed to sal. The whole maguire being adamant that despite his current standing lincoln is a murderer also implies that people viewed him positively/favorably womething which wouldnt make sense if he walked away. Also the documentary is made sometimes in the 2000's at the very least, 40 years after the events and centers little on anything else than lincolns actions, giving it an expose kinda feeling, something which again, wouldnt be neccesary if the sole thing he would be remembered by would be his rampage in the 60's. You dont need to prove that someone isnt who they present themselves as IF the only info you got on them is they killed hundreds and dismantled the mob in new bordeaux, even withouth clear evidence it would still be an educated guess. Plus the whole going away ending seems to be more bitter than sweet as he still loses contact with father james, as one way postcards do not represent any meaningful way of communication, and he eventually goes back to being involved in a criminal organization, one that would be even more bloody than the mob. And the whole losing sight of his morals is hypocritical in my opinion as during the game you can clearly see there are different ways to do crime, meaning prostitution bad yes i agree but prostitution through getting people intentionally addicted to heroin worse and lets not forget the slave auctions. Point is even if he wouldnt get involved himself in that, whatever criminal activity already proved itself profitable will be one people will always try to recreate again and again.
Nothing in Mafia 3 deserves to be called "best in the series" maybe the shooting..but even playing devils advocate and seeing the bright side of all the games flaws it still ends up not living up to its previous installment.
Never played past the first mafia but I just love your writing and narrating. You still haven't made a video that I haven't crushed in one sitting two max
I agree with what you said about vito and Joe. I think the commission knows how dangerous it’d be with them together and someone like Lincoln clay. No one would be able to touch them
I’m just going to say it. The district takeover system was fun and creative. Yes it could be repetitive but it never felt monotonous. The satisfying gameplay and soundtrack was enough for it to stay fun all the way through for me. I thought it was satisfying and immersive to methodically take over each district from Marciano slowly and deliberately as the story unfolds. I also liked the freedom you had in making choices that actually would have consequences later on, as well as the ability to take them in any order you’d prefer from the start of the game. I never understood the hate that it got. Maybe I’m alone in this but I thought it blended very well with the story.
I played Mafia III for the first time earlier this year and generally had a good time, the core gameplay is very solid, but I feel that the game's best aspects are diluted by the racket system. The DLC shines in part because the three stories completely do away with the filler content and provide tight, focused experiences that go straight to the point and play to the game's strengths. That and the second DLC has more Donovan, what more could you ask for but more time seeing him and Lincoln interact together?
I recall playing the game day 01 and I enjoyed the story overall. Loved the setting and how unafraid it was to be true to the setting with even having a disclaimer before beginning the game. My biggest issue was how the racket missions and loyalty missions were essentially the same with all 3 subordinates. The worst part is how you can do them at your own pace without having to trigger the mission and then the story will still make you do it again regardless if you already did it so it felt monotonous. They should have had territory take overs story locked and side content with members of each gang you work with to further develop the gang and their reasoning of why they are even there.
I remember the game was hated on for not being "Mafia" enough the gunplay wasn't very classy like in mafia 2 for example the game apparently felt like far cry, very repetitive with a great story potential mafia was supposed to be our gem, our videogame heritage and don't get me wrong, it still is but Mafia III was quite a let down localized voice acting for our native language was missing and not representing the lifestyle of a mafioso enough in the eyes of series veterans but it's nice that someone enjoys something that most hated on and puts a brighter light on it take care, fuzzy
i’ve always treated this game as a “brain off game”. i play this, put on a video on in the background, pause background noise for dialogue and cutscenes, and repeat. the gameplay loop gets tiresome sometimes but the combat, stealth, and driving gameplay is so well done that it’s able to keep the fun factor for a long time until it gets tiresome
In 2002 Vice city got censored due to its Hatian/Cuban controversy. Surprised this game didn't get similar hot water. Also you hit the nail on the head with "repetition" being this games biggest issue
Mafia 3 somewhat reminds me of Outer Worlds - OW was frankly a pain in the arse in it's first level (Emerald Vale) and so grindy that you just stopped, ignoring the rest of the missions and frankly the wider story. Mafia 3 has a great story... if you cut out all the annoying parts of taking over districts which amount to "go here, destroy this", while the boss fights were generally well written and engaging from invading a hotel, to blowing up a quarry and slaughtering the KKK. It's a shame how often developers pad things out with meaningless content just to claim "We've XXX hours of gameplay", it's the real world equivalent of Preston Garvey saying "I've heard about another settlement that needs your help".
me booting up mafia 3 for the first time in over a year, remembering theres no fast travel: dammit me five seconds inside my car, driving through new bordeaux: oh right I love it here, why would I ever deprive myself of this
Yeah, a little too much to be coincidental Both Lou and Trump were businessmen that knew bankers, lawyers and fellow entrepreneurs, are built thicker, blond thinning hair, tanned, and even walk the same.
Not just looks, either! “Lou is in charge of grooming politicians and bigwigs to use for their advantage; he established ties to various influential figures including politicians, lawyers, bankers and merchants, using his accountant Tony Derazio to bribe corrupt city government officials.” Just gotta replace ‘Tony’ with ‘Michael Cohen’ 😂
@@Necro-xy5ej Take a game that you consider a masterpiece 10/10. Then take a game you absolutely hate 1/10 and you know is both subjectively and objectively garbage agreed upon not only by you but also the entire gaming world. Now pick some average games that you could place in the middle 6/10 or 5/10 or 4/10. And now tell me, does Mafia 3 truly qualify as "decent" on that scale? Decent is 6, you want to put it on the same shelf as your other 6/10 games? Let's say a game you put for whatever reason on 6/10, for ex: let's just say "Sleeping Dogs". Would you actually believe Mafia 3 is good enough for you to call it decent.
I have always thought that Mafia 3 is a pretty solid and enjoyable game. Although it's obvious it needed another 6 months to a year, in development to get the variety of missions and open world environment/graphics to match the quality of the Cutscenes and Story. If you play it just a couple hours at a time, the repetitive gameplay isn't really an issue. The DLCs were definitely fun, but it's unfortunate they aren't replayable. The one major thing that bothered me after finishing the game and the DLCs, is that Lincoln gets a biker outfit, but there are NO motorcycles in the game! It makes me think they had another DLC in mind where a slightly older Lincoln is in a biker gang after the events of Mafia 3. But for some reason Hangar 13 never went through with it, which really sucks, because that would have been badass!
Mafia 3 was the first in the series that I played and it's always been my favorite. Yes, it can be repetitive, but the fun combat more than makes up for that in my opinion. This always reminded me of an old-school GTA game... I would have wanted Mafia 4 to be in 1970s Las Vegas.
The only downgrade of distributing all the district's evenly by all the under bosses is that you not known what ending you get, I really get the Vito ending, but I get the Burke ending, how the mechanic of the endings is still a mystery to me, is how the value of the racket or the amount of territory.
Man the last conversation between Lincoln and Sal is some of the best writing and well preformed acting I have ever seen in a video game.
@@gergopahollo 💯
The scene after with him and Leo is even better
Mafia 3s dialogue is one of the best ive seen combined with the soundtrack it makes a great setting. Also they picked the right actors/faces
I like that Donovan mentions that he found the files AFTER Lincoln killed Sal. Donovan maybe had an inkling that the mob was involved in JFK's assassination but Donovan had practically no ulterior motives for helping Lincoln, and I find it refreshing.
He helped Lincoln because they have been through alot together
So boring.

I really liked how Sal wasn't a "mustache twirling villain" and they even had me as a black dude feeling bad for him at some points.
I appreciated that Sal didn't apologize for what he did, why would a man like him say "I'm sorry" if he didn't mean it?"

It’s not that glitchy anymore and i don’t find it repetitive
The problem with Mafia 3 is how the developers had to jump many hoops to develop it from:
- Translating the engine from Czech to English
- Developing new technologies alongside the game
- Take2 suddenly jumping in and only giving them 2 years to develop it
- Development hell that landed the project on Hangar 13's doorstep
Not even close
You will die on that hill alone
This is the closest we're gonna get to an open world punisher game.
Now you say that I wonder who’d win in a 1v1 Lincoln clay or Frank Castle
Watch Dogs?
The ending where Lincoln leaves if all the underbosses are equal is determined by whoever you gave territory to first, it's weird
Sadly I will never see that ending because I just give everything to Vito, as you should.
It didn't help that it was poorly optimized and looked awful at dawn/dusk. I plan on going back to it even though I finished it when it came out. I remember it being repetitive, but the main issue was that it ran very badly for me.
Yea it plays okay on ps4 pro currently replaying it now, they did a great job with mafia 1 remake though and improved from mafia 3
It’s not a GTA game.. everything doesn’t need those things
It's the same story as with every game in the series. A wasted opportunity. A good game with an amazing game fighting to get out.
@@bartoltolic This game needed another year and a half in the oven realistically to smooth out everything and flesh the pacing out.

And don't forget Father James did mention Lincoln's father was white possibly of Italian descent.
Holy shit😮
Joe is also alive he is literally shown in this game
*Crazy how even after all these years they still haven't fixed the technical issues with the game, how do you screw up so badly that even half of the ACHIEVEMENTS are bugged.*
*And here's the kicker, at one point they DID fix the achievements by 1.09, but when they released the next Gen upgrade for the game, it actually made the game worse, not only performance wise but also undid some of stuff the earlier patches fixed, and once again the achievements were broken AGAIN, and for some reason they never bothered to fix them again.*
*They're not impossible to get, but you have to do them without exiting the game, crashing, or turning off your console, or else the in game counter resets and breaks the achievements, sometimes requiring you to new game all over again. I feel like so many people sleep on this game simply coz it wasn't like the first two mafia games. But it's actually really good, just has the big downside of the repetitive gameplay. But has such a fun story and character cast. The repetitive gameplay is what put most people off but arguably has the best story in the entire trilogy
That’s the main reason why people shit on it
@@AlibucketsBeats Yep🫡👊🏿. But I ended up seeing more people end up calling it a bad game and crapping on the story when they just truly never gave it a chance. But yeah always good to see people come around on the game coz it's one of my favourite stories in gaming. Just a shame how bland their mission structure was

let's goooo. fuzzy came in clutch with the video. mafia 3 is heavily underrated indeed
Lmao it's a heavy dog shit, that's what it is.
Donovan became one of my favorite characters I wish we could see more him in like a small spin off game
Let me play as a bad man on a mission, games!
I really never thought Mafia 3 was bad, just very repetitive. That really was the only problem. That and the bugs and performance of course...
I love that Sal will self delete if you take too long to kill him
Who takes over at the end is determined by whoever has the most territories. So if Vito has 4, Burke and Cassandra have 3, Vito takes over.
The game story was repetitive for the consistent damage feature but at the end of the day, if you were just to look at the cutscenes and the DLC stories this is one of the best well-written games ever❤
It’s not repetitive for me

39:03 Is that Joey Diaz? He certainly sounds like him. Even his model looks like Joey lol. How have I never realized this?
Yes
First thing I noticed in that scene lol, when I got this it was due to a sale on Xbox so I had 0 idea of what to expect but hearing his voice made me chuckle a bit at that point, honestly every character is well made in my opinion but his just had that familiarity that made him just a good character
I was sad to drip uncle joey in that junkyard 😂
I actually never saw the end cutsceen. And holy crap you weren't kidding. That was the craziest plot twist I've ever seen.
Played this game up until the stupid boat mission. Never wanted to return a game so fast until now
You mean the Killing Lou Marcano mission? Or the beginning mission with the boat? If the second, then c'mon man it's the beginning, if it's the riverboat, then that's skill issue
More like that’s when the game shit itself but ya… that’s the same as a skill issue for sure
@@ZEEZob still didn't answer my question
This uploaded right around the time I grabbed the game for $5 on a sale. I finally wrapped up the last of the DLC and now I can finally watch.
Whoa, I never even realized that the driver at the end of the game was Joe.
3 was HANDS DOWN PEAK of the series. Anybody questioning it. Well just say you like ya GrandPappy style of things 🤷🏿♂️
I couldn't bring myself to finish the game half way through. But I gladly watch your video
I had the same issue. You can only do the same gameplay loop for so long until it gets stale, no matter how satisfying the gameplay is.

Mafia 3 criticism in a nutshell:
"Repetitive"
"Why is he black, this is supposed to be mafia"
No but for real, there's mafia game fans who can't fathom non-Italian crime families existing.
The word “mafia” implies Italian mob as that is the definition of the word

@@Juanguar Sicilians are often not considered 'real' Italians by many people in Italy - and they often consider themselves not Italian too. The origins of the word are arabic because Siciliy was an islamic emirate for two centuries. So Mafia as a word has complex origins - and the richest 'mafia' organization in the world, the 'Ndrangheta, were not considered a mafia organization until 2010, despite being from Italy. So it's not just as simple as 'the mafia are italian mobsters' and I think mafia 3 is related enough to the topic of organized crime to count
i really enjoyed this video! you should make a video about black ops!

The remakes of the OGs were great as well.. criminally overlooked.. some of the best looking games of their generation
i think the first cutscene with giorgi and lincoln proves that at least from lincoln's side he really thought of him as a friend as he has the same smile he had with ellis and sammy. circumstantial sure but the whole vibe was really one of genuine friendship built through being youth shitheadary. and i think the canon ending is the rule together one, based on what maguire says at the beggining, the fact that lincoln was a "new breed of mobster".
This was probably my favorite Mafia game. You effectively play as Jason Vorhees with a gun.

It’s a pretty low tier Ubilike.
I brought it on release and my god was i disappointed
I remember the game was hated on for not being "Mafia" enough
the gunplay wasn't very classy like in mafia 2 for example
the game apparently felt like far cry, very repetitive with a great story potential
mafia was supposed to be our gem, our videogame heritage and don't get me wrong, it still is
but Mafia III was quite a let down localized voice acting for our native language was missing and not representing the lifestyle of a mafioso enough in the eyes of series veterans
but it's nice that someone enjoys something that most hated on and puts a brighter light on it
take care, fuzzy
26:40 I remember the game not having clothing options when it launched, took them a minute to add it
i’ve always treated this game as a “brain off game”. i play this, put on a video on in the background, pause background noise for dialogue and cutscenes, and repeat. the gameplay loop gets tiresome sometimes but the combat, stealth, and driving gameplay is so well done that it’s able to keep the fun factor for a long time until it gets tiresome
Its fun till the betrayal after that it’s repetitive and boring plus an empty open word wasted potential
In 2002 Vice city got censored due to its Hatian/Cuban controversy. Surprised this game didn't get similar hot water. Also you hit the nail on the head with "repetition" being this games biggest issue
I'm pretty sure that the underboss endings when Lincoln leaves is dependant on the maximum amount of money they make in comparison to the two others
I'm so surprised Lincoln managed to maintain all that muscle mass whilst being bedridden for 8 months - whats his secret

My first playthrough I didn't know about the up close takedowns, which honestly would have made the playthrough so much more fun.
Thank you for doing a video on my favorite game!! I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts about it
I personally loved mafia 3. Sure the gameplay was repetitive at times but, everything else made up for it.
me booting up mafia 3 for the first time in over a year, remembering theres no fast travel: dammit
me five seconds inside my car, driving through new bordeaux: oh right I love it here, why would I ever deprive myself of this
am i the only one who thinks uncle lou looks a little like donald trump?
Yeah, a little too much to be coincidental
Both Lou and Trump were businessmen that knew bankers, lawyers and fellow entrepreneurs, are built thicker, blond thinning hair, tanned, and even walk the same.
Not just looks, either!
“Lou is in charge of grooming politicians and bigwigs to use for their advantage; he established ties to various influential figures including politicians, lawyers, bankers and merchants, using his accountant Tony Derazio to bribe corrupt city government officials.”
Just gotta replace ‘Tony’ with ‘Michael Cohen’ 😂
Mafia 3 was the first game to entice me to be a collectible completionist ;)
I think the ruler is chosen based on who you gave the last land to. I asked the same thing on a Reddit post and they said the same thing.
Idk if anyone realized but Joe shows up in the end of this game as Leo Galante bodyguard hence the face zoom on Joe at the end
Lmao dude hears a whistle
"I hear something I don't like!"
Saw this video , went back to the game and oh boy it's an amazing game
I didn't knew about the Mafia games until I played this one. Had so much fun playing it. The story is awesome as well as the character 🔥💯
I was wrong about it too. I thought it was good years ago
I mean...I thought it was fun lol
Not like the best thing ever but decent

I was expecting and hoping that the next Mafia game would be set in Las Vegas in the 70’s/80’s, but nonetheless the next Mafia game looks promising.
my guess is that Joe was spared because he was not also the one vouching Henry to join Falcone, it was only Vito.
Henry wasn't a rat. The story and many other mechanics in mafia 2 got cut.
