Irish sika stalking expert Jason Doyle brings you the lowdown on the concept of maximum point-blank range. Not sure? How about this: Never having to alter the point of aim on deer anywhere from 130 to 250 yards. It could make your stalking life a lot easier - so follow Jason's tips to find out how to do it, and then follow him as he takes his newly zeroed set-up out into the field...
Then, we bring you the Shooting Show news, with the latest reports on who might take over the CLA Game Fair, the number of gamebirds we release every year, and new statistics on shotgun and firearm certificate holders.

I drew on my truck to demonstrate what I was talking about to the farmer. No one told me he wasn't using a sharpie, damn it

One comment, the 136 distance is from the muzzle out to 136 yards, indicating the point at which the bullet reaches its maximum height. Not from 3" high point out to 256 yards.
Otherwise well done and extra points for the ingenuity of using a dirty truck side as a chalkboard!

And does anyone else think the shots sound very cartoon like ??? Very informative stuff

Yes we thought the same when we watched the footage back. The ballistic tip bullets disintegrated on impact with the plywood target and caused the sound.

all assuming your grouping size at 250yrds is 0.1" if you group 4" at 100yrds then so 5" at 134yrds and 10" at 250yrds so your shot could be 2.5" higher and 5" lower than the 3" you need to think of your trajectory as a cone shape not a single line

The 6.5x55 probably wasn't the best caliber for demonstrating this process, a flatter shooting caliber would have had a greater maximum point blank range. Nice clear explanation tho, well done!

Sweet Jebus! Just zero it 2" high at 100yds and call it good...

it looks like you are shooting on an incline. The incline will make the shot appear higher than it would be on a straight line. Maybe its just the camera...

I know this show is mainly about hunting, but considering handguns are still legal in Northern Ireland why don't they ever show us some?

Most of the calculators will also tell u how much higher at 100m to be to give u the same zero which is easier to do than zeroing at 200m plus

Yes they will 👍 I use strelok+. best and easiest app I've used. does all that without being complicated. I only have a .17hmr but it still works so well with it

Fail to see where the "masterclass" comes in. A ballistic app. at that mid 200 yd range is a bit over the top. Any high powered rifle zeroed in 2" high at a 100 will give you those results...mind you I realise it is hard finding material to run a weekly magazine like this and we can't always expect it to be brilliant all the time. It is just I feel that the titles of some programmes needs a bit of tweaking.

+RicoChavez1 from 0 to 256 yards the bullet will be within the 6 inch target.
