    I love how Laura came back to voice Tohru, 18 years later after abandoning so many other roles. She lost her Lucina, Rise, and her Kid Trunks, but she came back for Tohru
    It shows how much she does love this series

      I was suprised that Laura Bailey return for the 2019 anime considering that she nowadays does cartoons and video games voice acting more.

      She actually wanted to reprise rise. It was a scheduling problem

    • @hierophantpurple5163
      @hierophantpurple5163 3 ปีที่แล้ว +54

      @@hectichooligan8299 Yeah she's very booked and busy and also like mentioned in a Fruits Basket 2019 behind the scenes vid the ADR director mentioned that it has been tough to record because Laura lives in LA vs Texas where Funimation is based. So the ADR director actually flies out to LA sometimes and then records chunks of episodes at a time with Laura cause it's easier than recording remotely and doing it over video call or whatever. So it might be a mix of remote recording not always being the easiest and scheduling conflicts as possible reasons she didn't return to roles like Kid Trunks.

    • @hectichooligan8299
      @hectichooligan8299 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@hierophantpurple5163 on the upside covid has made it easier and more common for adr directors to direct via zoom and such. So hopefully that made things easier and that skillset will cary on in the future. I'd love it if she could reprise more roles or even tackle some new ones. I have a small sliver of hope that kodocha might get its second season dubbed now that they're re-releasing it lol.
      Anyway she's an angel and I'd love it if she would get back into anime a little more.

    • @KellyJoule
      @KellyJoule 4 ปีที่แล้ว +91

      I think it's less that she was "off" in 2001 and more that she used different vocal ranges. In 2001, she was using her natural regular voice, in 2019 I think she's doing a higher pitch take in order to sound younger since she got older and that original voice matured too much. This could have been grating with other actresses, but for some reason it actually ends up working better for her here, either way in both versions I think she continues to be incredible as always :)

    • @bankaispirits
      @bankaispirits 4 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Kelly Joule !! This, you’re absolutely right, this was almost 20 years ago so yeah, her voice has changed and matured, in this reboot it’s higher pitched (but she can still reach that range because she played maka and in soul eater NOT which was back in 2015, she still had that tohru/maka “sound”) I’m guessing the voice director wanted her to sound younger, even higher pitched than the 2001 version of her 💚

    I haven't seen the original anime in so long but they have all improved SO much and I am extremely happy with the DUB! I know a lot of people don't like DUB or the original Furuba DUB but besides growing up with these voices, I also feel in general most of them truly suit them and it's so wonderful that they have gotten better too! It's funny because most of the voices sound very 90's along with of course the quality in the recordings of the voices sounding old in the original. But I feel a lot of them got better and in general the voices work better now since it's rebooted and closer to the manga story. When he's telling kisa he was worried about her, in the 2019 version he says rather calmly almost flat. But in the original 2001 version his voice actually TREMBLES , showing exactly how upset he was by kisa disappearing. So I have to strongly disagree with the 2019 version showing more emotion. Theres so much more inflections and feeling in their words in the new series. I noticed it immediately when I started the reboot. The old one was so monotone and Yuki especiallyyyyyy was so quiet and breathy and annoying. The new take on his voice is so much more natural feeling, though it's still noticeable when he yells.

    I’ve always loved Laura, Eric, and Jerry’s voices. I still do in the reboot. However, the original just feels different, and I prefer the old voice acting since it had a cute naïveté, BUT, I understand that the original was made almost two full decades ago, so I completely understand how everyone who was recast sounds different. Even so, their voice acting has aged phenomenally. While I liked their old voices better since they sound younger and “sweeter” like actual teens, the new voice acting has WAY more emotion since the actors are older and have more experience. Both versions of the dub are wonderful.

    When I look at the two, this is how I feel. The new version has does its story telling better, the animation is much more polished and the voice acting is top notch. However, when it comes to the emotional aspect, I feel like the OG anime did it a little better.
    What I mean to say is that when it came to the big emotional scenes like the lesson about the rice ball and the plum, or about the importance of memories, the OG delivered it better because it had the perfect music that helped sell the point home and made the lessons stick with you while the new one doesn't have that.
    Aside from that, the new one is very good, however when it came to showing emotion and wisdom, I usually show the older version to others so they understand what the anime is about.
