Something I haven’t seen anyone talk about. The fact that they are both boys means that Yuki can hug/touch Kakeru, which is a stark contrast to the relationship between Tohru and Kyo!! This would have been a really awesome addition to the story, just to contrast their relationships. Ugh I love this so much
I just started to watch Fruits Basket, and from the first episode I fell in love with Yuki. No offense to Machi, but it would be interesting character development if he turned out gay. He already has many guys liking him, and I love the idea of him and Kakeru. Maybe even like a slight hint of them together from one of the sequels, at least being friends.
But yeah, I agree with the whole hugging thing. They wouldn’t have to worry about Yuki transforming all the time. Must be hard loving someone and not being able to hug them

fr I haven’t seen the show in so long but I just remember being so confused about his love interest because I felt like she came out of no where 😭
I can understand but the ship likely would've been controversial at the time and especially in Japan.
The manga was made back in the 2000s where LGBTQ hadn't been mainstream yet in any Western countries and would've been controversial then. And this is Japanese media, Japan is not a progressive country and being gay and etc. is only seen as a foreigner thing. Natsuki Takaya still has to write for the audience of Japan and write things within her country's own cultural context and not another's.

Genuine question here, some people are on tiktok saying that this song is WLW erasure and, is it?? I don't view it that way, people make a lot of WLW song covers changing pronouns to make them MLM and vis versa (hell even with straight songs both parties do it) so I'm very cunfused?? Also people are complaining that Caleb is Cisgender and Heterosexual even though Cisgender Heterosexual women who cover songs do the same thing. I don't understand and think that these are people being irrational and just hateful but I understand that my opinion could be wrong. I also know tiktok is unreliable but if this is a serious issue I want to know and help others understand.
It mostly stems from general lesbian erasure. As a lesbian I don't see myself represented as much as other queer people, so when a song like Little Miss Perfect is used for MLM or even straight couples, it feeds into lesbian erasure. Think of it like queer movies. How many more movies are there about MLM couples rather than wlw? It's a lot, so we want to hold onto as much as we can because we really don't have a lot.

And if you specify major characters (e.g. "this character has gay parents" doesn't count, because the parents aren't important characters) then the numbers aren't even close. For example, if you look at the GLAAD nominees for the past four years, more nominations were for WLW couples than MLM
Hey, could you perhaps link a tiktok that's saying this stuff? But to answer your question, this isn't even a question of representation. The original song still exists, this is just a creative cover done on it that is entirely separate and allowed to be whatever the hell it wants to be. When genderbent, the song fits the Yuki and Kakeru ship perfectly, and I love what Caleb and Emirichu have done with it. Claiming this to be erasure is also erasing the beauty of artistic liberty and creative/expressive freedom.

"love is something you don't even know" it hurts bc like for majority of fruits basket yuki didnt know what real love felt like. i feel like if he did like kakeru, this is exactly how it would've played out. being mocked by his parents and akito, for reaching out for a glimpse of happiness that could ultimately never be his.
i always love fruits basket because its a story about hurt people. its a beautiful story and i feel like almost every pair would drive home the message that we can break the cycle of hate. and thats why i love fruits basket so much.
I love how when Yuki is saying "Love is something I don't even know" he looks at tohru and kyo, because he knows they are in love and when Yuki is wiping his and kakeru's name off the board, shows he can't love him, openly. It's the little details that make this an excuisite animatic

I just started watching Fruits Baskets and this is the thing that drew me in to watch it!
So nobody asked for this technically, BUT I've always wanted to draw something Fruits Basket-related and one of my favorite non-canon ships in the show is Yuki and Kakeru! (No disrespect to the canon Yuki ship in the show, I just personally believe Yuki and Kakeru had so much potential to be a thing) I was so nervous to make this video because I feel like a lot of my viewers won't care for this bc its not canonical and basically fanfiction in the form of an animatic T____T

@@nira2516 I did too, when I was younger watching the original series I really couldn't see it from his point of view the way kyo thought/did everything just made more sense to me. But coming back to it all now re visiting and re learning all the characters, I understand yuki alot more. Yeah some of the things he does are still a little far but his out look makes alot more sense to me now. So I can understand not liking him but at the same time hes baby show him love.
