I live in Christchurch, New Zealand and was here during the huge earthquakes in Sept 2010 and Feb 2011. The Feb earthquake killed 185 people and caused extensive building failure across the city. Where I lived we were without power for one week and without water or toilet for a month. We turned our garden shed into an outdoor dunnie ( toilet) by simply using a bucket and bags of compost I had for the garden. My husband dug very deep holes around the garden for us to discard the waste. The dog spent many hours peering down those holes. Yes, it sounds disgusting. That was how we had to do it! My husband could shower at work, but I showered in a bucket. I have two big takeaways from living through a disaster. One was the water situation. We had to go queue with hundreds of people for water tank deliveries- they were always late, people were anxious, feral and frankly, it was a s**t show. My advice to anyone is to install a rainwater tank in your garden and catch water now because it is invaluable in an emergency. People forget that not only do you drink it but you use it for washing, hand hygiene laundry, pets, doing dishes etc etc. Second is be prepared to be alone and without help from authorities for at least three days. Emergency Services focus on the situations that are critical, so be prepared to go it alone for a few days. You have to be able to help yourself.
This is very much like our Hurricane Supplies. Every beginning of the season we stock up and make sure things work, got batteries etc. When Milton hit last week and the chaos that ensude in the grocery stores just a few days after showed that so many people are not prepared. Every time we have a hurricane on the way the water on the shelves dissappears. It is mind boggeling to me how we go through this every year yet people still don't prepare. I am glad you guys stay prepared.
In NC, where we are prone to hurricanes, we get FOOD GRADE, 5 gallon, white buckets from the hardware store, and fill them with water. Works great if you lose water access. 1 per person.
hot hands & hot feets, winter gloves, hat, scarf, unscented liquid soap(dawn dishsoap can be used for every need), portable solar generator, scissors, para cord(incase you need rope), sewing kit, extra socks, small hatchet or saw incase you need to cut down or through something.
Hey, from Whakatane, NZ. They sell grab & go bags. When the edgecumbe flood hit (where my family live) there was no warning apart from someone had rang & said to leave immediately then, a knock came & was told to get out. People saw it on tv as it was happening. They had literally seconds. They didn’t have time to get anything, by the time they drove down the road the water was at the vehicle. Grab & go bags are for you to grab & get out. You’re supposed to keep them where you can quickly access them. There are situations where there is no warning. Be safe out there.

It is true that it is really necessary to have one of those. We do have too in my family, a back pack for each filled what is really necessary in case we need to leave home; that includes batteries, small radio, flashlight and even helmet and other stuff. Aside from that, we prepared a small luggage to go for extra food only. There are food that are really meant for the emergencyt bag. This is only a additional info.
Hello! I live in Northern California. Emergency preparedness is so important. I was so glad I carried a reasonable amount of emergency supplies in my car when we had the big Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989. When the earthquake hit, I was about an hour away from home. It wasn't possible to get home that evening due to problems with the roads and power outages, etc. Because I had emergency supplies in my car, I was able to stay overnight where I was safely. I had what I needed. Wishing your whole family safety and good health; remembering you in prayer.
Reminds me the 70s/80s in Switzerland when I was young. Theese days each house had to have it's atomic shelter and different supplies (people in older houses had a dedicated place in the municipal shelder, usually under the school). Civil protection organisation provided beds and toilets for each shelter, and they checked once a year, that the shelter was well maintained and air tight. We got from time to time a leaflet from the authorities with the "emergency kit" that eacht houshold had to have, like water, pasta, flour, emergency radio,... ...somehow, it's like going back 40 years in time (the good old days 😂).
We went without power for a few days and our emergency kit came in handy. We wish that we had a gas stove that would’ve been handy. We also stock up on calorie mate for easy food.
The only thing adviced here in Germany is to have enough food for at least up to 10 days. Most people don't have any emergencies where you would even have to rely on your food storage and the worst people can have mainly is floods, especially in the south, but if your house is flooded than you can't do anything about your food storage
As a scout we had to be prepare in Emerency. What about Hygiene product especially for females for periods. Extra pair of clothes. It looks like you have majority of it. I would look at other people supplies on You Tube to see you feel you are missing anything. Good for you to updating your supplies.

I bought a 72 hour food kit from Patriot Supply. Everybody east of the Mississippi has to be prepared for the New Madrid fault. And there's always a chance of a government issue or war, or something. It's always wise to be prepared. You never know.
My husband and I both have our Amateur Radio Licenses and we have both a base radio, as well as handhelds (with charged/extra battery support). Ham radio (term used casually for Amateur Radio) is often the only source of reliable communication, worldwide, in emergencies/natural disasters. Neither of us are active "HAM's" currently, but we keep our licenses and radios current specifically to be able to help with communication during disasters.
IF you buy Freeze Dried foods from a place like "Thrive Life Foods," it has a 25 year Shelf life and you would NEVER have to replace the items because they are expired.

Great question. Many people have compartments in the floor dedicated to storage for things like this. In our case, we have it stored with our camping supplies.

Just look at North Carolina… But in the case of Florida it’s a hand of God who protected the state from hurricane cat 5. Because everyone started praying and seeking God understanding it’s not a joke anymore. What can I say, being physically prepared for a disaster is great, but staying strong spiritually is way more important. As it says, healthy church equals healthy country.
I know here in Florida it's nice to have some cash on hand because with emergencies alot of times their is no power to run credit cards or ATM'S. Not sure how this would work in Japan.

In case you get separated (hopefully not) or the kids can help look for things. If the kids don't have phones, a flashlight of some kind would come in handy for them. I'm obsessed with flashlights. 水道がストップした場合、雨水タンクの120リットルくらいのがあると水洗トイレに使用出来るので役にたちます。バケツで運ぶ必要があるけどね。
タンクが満水になったら自動的に排水管に流れます、
満水になったらバケツに分けておくのも良いですね、園芸用にも使えるし、かなり汚い物を洗う時の前洗いにも良いです。殺菌濾過すれば飲料水にもなりますが、面倒かもね。

こんばんは🌛私は熊本地震を経験しましたが、何よりも水が使えないことが一番大変でした。近所に水源があったので毎日汲みに行ってトイレはその水を使いました。家族は5人ですが相当量の水を使いました。水の有り難さに気づきました。なので、水を沢山補充されることが大事だと思います。

ブルーシートも何枚がご用意した方がいいですよ、窓が割れ一時的の風よけや雨漏りの時補修、災害後は店頭からなくなる品なので置いといても損はないです。
防犯ブザーもおすすめです、何かあった場合、ドアが開かなくて閉じ込められた際に、他の人に知らせるための道具としてバックにでも付けてくれたら良いですね。
あとダイソーで防災グッズが揃う物もあるので、ホームセンターより安く済みますので見て回るのもおすすめです。

トイレは住宅が安全な場合にそのまま使えますが、住宅が利用できない場合（外部でトイレ）に備えて、ブルーシートや大きなポンチョのようなもの或いはテントなどを準備しておくと良いと思います。
様々な災害状況を想定して備えることが必要です。
例えば、ガラスが飛散した場合に備えて、ベッド脇に簡易的な履物。
倒れたり落ちてくることを想定して、それらがベッド方向に落ちない位置にする。
建物が歪んで、ドアが開かなくなった時を想定して、外に出るにはどうするかを考えておく。
停電時のランタン、懐中電灯も個人ごとに有ると便利。両手を使えるようにヘッドランプも有ると良い。（防災として使えるものが百均で売っています）

関東在住ですが東日本の地震の際何日間か電気、水道が止まり家の中はぐちゃぐちゃで余震が怖くて帰れず車で寝泊まりした経験があります。
ガソリンが入れられない、食べ物が買えない、色々不自由はありましたが私が実際思ったのは水の大切さでした。もちろん飲み水用としてもなんですが手が洗えない、トイレを流せない、お風呂に入れない、物凄くストレスを感じたのを覚えています。
短期間でもストレスなのに被災して避難所にいる方達を思うと本当大変だろうといつも感じています。
地震はいつ来るかわからないので台風など災害警告が出た前には水道水を貯めておいたりしています。
それと女の子がいるので生理用品は多めに準備しておいた方がいいと思いますよ！
こういう準備は実際起きてからではやってる人とやってない人で大分変わってくると思うので改めて見直さないとと教えて貰いました😊ありがとうございました❗

我が家では、シャワー使えない時に備えて水なしで洗えるシャンプーや、介護などで使うボディーシートもリュックに入れてます。
子供用のリュックには本やトランプ、ぬり絵など、遊びグッズも入れてます。
今回の動画で我が家にはトイレや寝袋がないことに気づきました。揃えたいと思います。

13年前東日本大震災で罹災したとき、皆が欲したものは水、電気（電池）、食料でした
特に電池はありとあらゆるものが一瞬で無くなり、初動が遅く電池を手に入れられなかった人は電気が復旧した地域まで移動して充電させてもらっていましたね
復旧が早かった我が家も延長コードを伸ばしに伸ばしてタコ足配線上等で電気を分けていました、携帯の充電や給湯ポットでお湯を沸かす人など様々でした
「備えあれば憂いなし」使わないに越したことはないものですが、万が一の時を考えると非常に有意義な買い物をされましたね

Given the size of Japanese homes, where do most people store their emergency supplies/what is the “best” place?

東日本大震災で被災しました。発電機を英語でなんて言うのか分からなくて、足りないのに助けに来てくれた海外の人に伝えられなかったという話を知っています。手回しの携帯充電器は暇つぶしにもなるのでいいですよ。生理用品と大人の食べ物がまだ食べられない歳の子たちのミルクや離乳食もあるといいです。ランタンを引っ掛けるのに針金のハンガーが役に立ちました。家に潰されて助けを呼べないという時のための小さな笛があるといいです。

120デシベル出る笛があってそれに名前と血液型を書いて首からぶら下げる様に実家の家族全員分プレゼントしたな
田舎なので熊と遭遇したら熊の目を睨みながら思いっきり笛を吹けとも言ってあげたけど
実際に使用される日が来ないこと願ってはいるが
ただ様々な環境や季節、条件、時間等を考えると切りがないんだよな
俺は独り身なので非常用靴と笛はタオルは枕元に置いてあるけど(笑)

もちろん全部揃っているのは大事ですが、色々揃えても咄嗟に全部抱えて逃げ出せるかと言われればNoです。
ですから家族の人数分すぐに持ち出せるように最低限を纏めた分を、玄関のそばに置いておくことは重要です。
私はダイソーの大きめのクリアポーチに小さく圧縮された避難用品を詰め込んでます。入れ物はクリアの方が探しやすいのと、撥水が期待できます。
特に地震などの場合、とにかくさっと掴んでとりあえず家から出られる事が重要です。日本の建物は倒壊しにくいですが、倒壊しないわけではありません。
持ち出し用の水は開封したり口をつけると雑菌が繁殖するので500ミリリットルの小分けされたものが良いです。

冬の季節にはカイロがあった方がいいと思います。
そのほか、快眠グッズや簡易テント、ソーラーパネル付きのポータブル電源なども用意している人もいるみたいです。
どこまで用意するか判断に困るところではありますが😅

Thanks for the info and showing us we should take being prepared seriously! I'm wondering if you should have a handcranked flashlight for each person. In case you get separated (hopefully not) or the kids can help look for things. If the kids don't have phones, a flashlight of some kind would come in handy for them. I'm obsessed with flashlights. I don't think you can have too many. One for every room. 😊

備えは大事ですね。食器を洗わないで済ませるためのラップも多めに保管しておくといいですよ。南海トラフでは港湾施設などの被害も想定されます。港湾施設が復旧するまでの間、さまざまな物流が滞り手に入らなくなる事も考えて備えて置くことが重要ですね。これは津波被害の想定される地域だけでなく日本のどこにでも言えることです。

阪神淡路大震災で家が全壊で辛い体験をしているので、防災グッズは必需品です。体験から窓ガラスが飛び散り足を切る事があるので、登山用のしっかりした靴を用意した方がよいです。お風呂に水を入れて置くと、トイレを流す時に使用できます。ベッド廻りに懐中電灯、ラジオ、靴は置いています。でも実際起るとパニックになります。今でも震度1でも反応してしまいます😂
