Something worth noting if you live in a colder clomate : ghe flexible rubber end which goes over the intake "pipe" is sensitive to temperature and can become very rigid when cold. I have had to use a heatgun to soften it up for removal , hot water was also helpful for reinstallation

Thank you VERY MUCH for the really helpful video - I was NOT looking forward to this task. I took before and after photos, and 3rd after I oiled it. Looks great. Hope it works great too!
NOTE! Going to leave firing up my SUV for a while. I plan on removing the cover and seeing if I was too enthusiastic with the oil and will mop up any drippings before I go anywhere.
Posted by an "older lady" who is recently widowed, lives in the boondocks with no-one to ask for help! Wondering if my sorely missed Dearly Departed is perched on his cloud going "WAY TO GO WIFEY".

Yes, he is, ma'am. The first rule is do your best. The second is get it right, don't guess. That delay to see if the oil is really dry is just that and what is needed.

    Great vid very informative!
I'd like also like to add as you mentioned spray on the pleats and do not worry about getting it completely red the first time as the oil will wick itself into the small corners etc.
I made the mistake of over oiling my filter the very first time using the square bottle .
3k miles later, my car started revving higher than usual during acceleration almost as if my trans was slipping, popped my hood took a look and sure enough small amount of air filter oil puddling near my pcm, (my air filter sits on top of my pcm) .
I was skeptical but i figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot.
Re-cleaned my air filter went with the oil spray bottle instead and went easy on it.
Cleaned my MAF with MAF cleaner. Threw it all back together. And BAM my car drove back to normal.
ALSO..if you happen to drive a boosted car and experience a sudden lack of boost, take a look at your air filter before tearing other stuff apart.

A buddy of mine has K&N filters on his vintage motorcycle and he uses a high pressure air blow gun to clean them (K&N recommends NEVER use compressed air) - this is a BIG NO NO. It destroys the gauze fibers and there is nothing left but the wire cage! Yea, plenty of air flow, just zero filtering. Excellent video by the way - I'll show this to my students. Ya I like the spray is easier. I have an S&B oil filter for engine and K&N cabin air filter. I have to apply oil to the pleats and it's a huge filter. Cabin is easy just spray 3 times I'm good. My question is how do I know if I have enough oil on the filter or too much? If I get some on my hands when I touch it is that too much. It's a light blue color in my case.

This video was way better than the explanation from K&N themselves! Thank you so much for explaining things well. I have a 2019 ford flex that i bought the K&N kit for and ive had mine for about 6 months and it starting to look dirty so i figured i would start looking into cleaning it out in the next couple months.

Thank you. Thats the main reason I wanted to make the video. K&N explain it but I didn't feel its thorough enough.

Thanks for the upload that was way easier than I thought it would be. I'd say best amount of times to clean them would be every 6 to 8 months just a guess

Thanks, The interval between cleaning does depend largely on the type of driving conditions you're in. I've cleaned them once a year, and sometimes a few times a year. I'd say your estimate is reasonable.

If you have a dehumidifier, put it in a small bathroom or closet and set the rinsed filters near the vents. Depending on the dehumidifier and room size, this works pretty fast.

Throw it in the oven at 450 degrees for 30 minutes. Dry as a bone
