The Grey Corries

  • Or... to be more accurate, two of the Grey Corries!
An ascent of Stob Choire Claurigh 1177m and Stob Coire An Laoigh 1116m
For this one we managed to get a really cheap hotel room in the Caledonian hotel on the outskirts of Fort William. It definitely made for an easier start as there wasn't three hours of travel at the beginning! Still an early start mind you.
Leaving the hotel at 05:30 and heading for Spean Bridge.
It was a dark start but we could see the stars above so our spirits were high, hoping for a clear day.
We pushed hard on the ascent as we knew there was going to be a spectacular sunrise! And it didn't disappoint. We even ventured quite far off the track to make sure we got the most out of it.
We ascended the first peak and made the rookie mistake that this was the first summit, but as the cloud cleared to the right of us, we then had a view of the true summit! Some 50m higher.
Some brilliant ridge walking and we were there.
The hike from #1 to #2 is actually really long but if you have a clear day, like us, you'll relish it!
As this was a huge day for us, we decided not to push to the third. (Me recovering from an injury and Andrew having down 2 Munros the previous day). The third Munro would have to wait for another day.
The descent down to the plateau was quick and the plateau made for great walking. The descent from here though... not so much. For us this was frozen for the most part but in warmer conditions this would be a boggy and slippy nightmare.
Once down to the Land Rover track I reckon it's about 3km back to the parked cars. Just enough time for your legs to recover from the descent.
Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed this hike, and I highly recommend this but if possible, save it for a clear day ;)

First class video Stevie, the clarity of your channel just gets better and better each time I tune in. Yeah sometimes you have to let your mind say I will come back another day to complete the intended target. It's always a good one when the sky is clear as it would help your views and the drone capturing everything. Brilliant as always and I look forward to seeing the next adventure. Well Done.
