When the guy's (Bee Gees) wrote this they would have had in their mind a tribute to their younger brother Andy Gibb who died at a young age and also had that gorgeous falsetto vocals... Celine Dion sang it with such a hauntingly beautiful way it gives me goosebumps. Love from Australia

Autobiographical song they wrote, amazing and they so DESERVE the immortality their music has brought them.
I think the lyrics of this song are among the most beautiful that they ever wrote. Celine sang since she was @ 5 years old just as the brothers Gibb sang since childhood. She was from a poor Canadian Quebecois family, the youngest of 14 children! The title is so appropriate. Both Maurice and Robin (and Andy) are already immortal and one day Celine and Barry will be as well. They have all left their mark. Celine may never sing again due to her illness and that is very sad.

They write all their own songs, and many many hits for others including, Heartbreaker Dion Warwick, Chain Reaction for Diana Ross, Islands in the stream for Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. Many others as well.

It means as long as we keep loved ones in our hearts and minds, they are immortal, still alive (in a way) even though they are gone. It’s an amazing song. There is a video if a tribute to the BeeGees, where Celine sings this - by then one or both of the twins had passed, as well as her husband and brother. Very poignant. Keith Urban also does an amazing rendition of To love somebody.

Just amazing. They sounded amazing with her. Love seeing them so blown away they're wiping their tears.
After their brother Andy died they all really searched spiritually and deep in their souls to cope with the loss. He passed away at the age of thirty. January of 88 they announced that he would be joining the Bee Gees as a permanent member and March 10th, 1988 just five days after his 30th birthday he passed away. Shook the whole world up so I can't even imagine what they went through. I think of Andy when I hear this song. If you haven't reacted to Andy Gibb check out his first number one hit on the Midnight Special singing I Just Wanna Be Your Everything. He was 12 years younger than Barry and 9 years younger than the twins. The Bee Gees were established the year he was born. Plus the boys started performing when Barry was 9 and the twins were 6. Andy started solo to establish himself and not be in the shadow of his brothers so to speak. Prove himself on his own merits. His first three releases hit number one. Amazing talent.

am so glad this song is so appreciated after a number of years. Lost Maurice and Robin, and Celine herself is in a very bad way. Bad things happen to good people. I really don't know why. Celine is probably silenced forever. She is fighting ,of course, but I don't think it's a fight she can win. Heartbreaking. Such a talent, beautiful lady, there is not a voice on this planet that comes anywhere near to her. There is no God. Can't be.
