You came out out that one quite well Keithy. After close inspection of mine with a view to fitting new flange gaskets, years of experience and instinct kicked in and I took it to my mate with the exhaust shop. 3 broken studs. So after reading all the old magazines in his lunchroom and parting with $$ its all good. I definitely made the right move. :)

A fun job. I had the luxury of a second car so I could just go and pull some teeth. The best thing I found after all said and done (new 316 bolts for the next time) was the fuel consumption was unbelievable, so ran it again. And it's true what people say about highway cycle. Good video right on the mark for helping other people.

Great video! I have to do this job myself soon and have a question on how you removed the headers from the car as I believe the steering shaft and brake unit would prevent removal upwards and out at the top. Did you remove them downwards and out under the car??

      Thanks mate, much appreciated 👍🏻
In the end I had to bring them out the top. They are in a very difficult position!
I’ve heard that others often remove the engine mounts and lift the block a few inches which makes it easier to remove.

Appreciate the reply! I am hearing that if you remove the steering shaft it will come out the top. Good tip on the engine mounts as that may need to be considered if removing the steering shaft is not enough!

I left the steering shaft in place and just adjusted it as the need arised.

You’re in for a treat. They’re a great vehicle when maintained properly.
There are a few things to look out for, and to ask the owner, I could spend all day writing things down, but I’ll condense it.
Ask (and check) the service history/records to make sure it’s been serviced on time. This is important especially for the transmission and cooling system.
Ask about any major issues. Things like blend motors and flaps for the air conditioning and climate control system, perhaps a crank position sensor replacement, air suspension operation and maintenance.
Take it for a long test drive. Use Highway and urban roads to ensure there’s no vibrations or other issues.
When maintained in reasonable state, they’re great vehicles. When neglected, they’re money pits.
      Cheers
      Keithy
