      AAAA ME TOO! (Born in '74, I mean.) '70s music is classic--so diverse and interesting. I grew up with '80s stuff on the radio as a kid (which I also love) but digging back into the years I was a tiny kid (and then also didn't exist) is amazing. :)

    There were 100s if not thousand of great songs they did not include in these compilations. The Doors, Pink Floyd. Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Rick James, Stevie Ray Vaughn, 10cc, Jim Croce. Many. Many others. Not all in the same decade but several of f these.are still playing 50+ years later. In this I am glad they included the Carpenter's they were brother and sister. She has a beautiful voice. Tanya Tucker (used to babysit my first husband) before she became famous. Anyway great reaction guys!

    I grew up with the 70’s. What you have to understand is there was no internet, no TH-cam videos. We listened on transistor radios. We made up lyrics when we couldn’t make out the words. I know every song on this list. I road my bike and listened. There were headphones, I couldn’t afford them. Your lives now is nothing like our lives back in the 70’s. I graduated high school in the 70’s. I’m a grandfather in the 20’s. I was a virgin in the 70’s. M way last that now. My parents were alive in the 70’s. Not now. When you guys are grandfathers, your grandchildren won’t understand or care how you grew up. Most if the artists from the 70’s are dead now.

    What's interesting is that you can distinctly hear the 60s and the 80s "sound" respectively at the beginning and end of this decade. I was born in 1970 and listened to music all the time, so I heard all of this growing up. I was so happy to see The Carpenters' "On Top of the World" and Helen Reddy's "Delta Dawn" included here because they were my favorites when I was little. Cheers!

      71 kid here too, I remember all this music to plus country, and my parents listened to a lot of 50s and 60s music which is probably why I like just about every genre, but to me the 70's is really defined by 2, Rock, and Disco with some Easy Listening thrown in, I think it was mostly those

    • @robinchesterfield42
      @robinchesterfield42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, absolutely, to the hearing the other decades at the beginning and end thing. When I make my own chronological collections, I like to end off with something that sounds like it's kinda leading into or foreshadowing the coming decade. In this case it was "Video Killed the Radio Star", which came out in December 1979 and has PERFECT timing _and_ foreshadowing. XD

    I have a strong suspicion these lists are based on British or European charts.

    • @Hi-kq1vi
      @Hi-kq1vi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep-Abba were colossal in the UK & huge in Europe, Brotherhood Of Man won Eurovision for GB, Pussycat was a UK number 1. Cannot be totally UK based though as no T-Rex or Slade songs & for instance Fox On The Run by Sweet was nowhere as big a song in the UK as Blockbuster was for them.

  • @Hi-kq1vi
    @Hi-kq1vi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    As great as a lot of the chart music was this decade-what didn't always or often make the charts from people who were mostly album artists is insane-Led Zep, Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott-Heron, Aerosmith, Elton John, Miles Davis, Scorpions, ELO, Tom Waits, Tom Petty, Supertramp, Rolling Stones, Kraftwerk, Nick Drake, 10CC, Al Stewart, Springsteen, Alan Parsons Project, Genesis, Elvis Costello, Mike Oldfield etc. Greatest decade for music ever as all of these artists were at their peak, or maintaining their late 1960's peaks.

    • @lunacouer
      @lunacouer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I was so surprised that not one Fleetwood Mac song was on here...especially with Rumours. But like you said, there were so many amazing album artists that wouldn't necessarily have had a number one song in any given month.
      But also, it was bugging me lol, so I looked at a list of the Billboard number one songs each week and TopCulture definitely cherry-picked this list. Like, the Jackson 5 is all over 1970 with three #1 hits, but wasn't on this list. So, grain of salt.
      It makes me sad though, that so much amazing music is getting lost to time now. Number 2, 5, 10, 20, etc never make it on these lists.

      Christopher Cross, Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush, Heart, Deep Purple, Seals and Croft, Kansas ........... Awesome concerts, mostly better than the recordings. Pure voice talents, composing, and musicians.

      I so agree. I’m deep in the ‘70s. But it’s like that in every decade. The cream doesn’t always rise to the top. Most people have a shallow taste in music, now and then. There’s a lot of fantastic music to this day, but one must take an active interest in the dig. These days there are more tools for the excavation!

    • @nathanisaksson
      @nathanisaksson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There was also so much music that didn’t have a pop hook in the ‘70s, such as Tangerine Dream-I won’t expand on your list but I’m sure you agree.

    I enjoyed this video. It would be nice to see more
    inclusion of rhythm and blues/soul artists like the great Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Parliament, James Brown, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, The Dells, The Delphonics, Blue Magic, The Chi-lites, The Manhattans, The Chambers Bros.(they're from 60's) Jerry Butler, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, The Temptations, Michael Jackson, and LaBelle just to name a few (😂). They made some serious contributions to the music industry. I love watching you guys as you're listening to the music of the 60's and 70's. Please do another video of both genre's. Thank you for putting this together.😍❤️🌻

    The 70s are my favorite decade for music. The musicianship, the songwriting, the production were at their height. You had to have talent. Novelty songs of the 50s and 60s became less common and it was before a good beat and personality were enough to make a song a hit.

    You two are the BEST!! I wasn't familiar with the early 70's but once you hit like '76 I was 5 years old & I remember the rest of those songs well. It's funny how the pop songs (Bee Gees, Abba, Beatles) were always top of the list but the classic rock never really was yet now it's the jam. Ex: Led Zeppelin, Boston, Pink Floyd - just to name a few. Either way - it was a GREAT time for music. Thanks Raymond & Keylow!

    It's surprising but there's a lot of sugary sweet stuff that seems to dominate the months on this list, songs that were forgotten the next month and a lot of them don't really stand the test of time. A lot of great groups you need to hear aren't included when done this way. You're gonna have to go deeper to find most of the really good stuff. But it's certainly worth the effort. Music of the 70's was much better than this list would indicate.

      I'm Australian and knew them all but wondered halfway through if it was UK. Especially when the Scottish Bay City rollers came on. Or did they have hits in the US too 🤔

    • @dp3396
      @dp3396 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, Bay City Rollers had a #1 with Saturday Night in the US, which is why The Bee Gees refused to write a song with the same title for Stigwood’s little disco movie. Named it Stayin Alive and refused to change it. Because they also had written Night Fever, they suggested the movie’s name be changed to SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. Definitely more creative the just SATURDAY NIGHT.

    I was in my 20s in the 70s and preferred the songs in the first part of that decade as I was more of a hard rock kind of person as in Hendrix, Janis Joplin the Stones and others that were big in the latter part of the 60s and the first part of the 70s but all in all it was a good decade for music.

    Y'all two are a pleasure to watch your reactions. These best of each month 60s and 70s have been enjoyable. I was 5 in 1960 and a weed smoking flower child in the early 70s. This reminded me of some favorites that I will search out and listen to the whole songs. Thank you! Please, notice how we young people in the 60s and 70s didn't care about the color of the artists skin or xenaphobia! Black, White, Japanese, German, French... We just wanted the music! They all had amazing talents and no autotune. They had pipes! Music evolved drastically and the themes/moods match up with political events in the US in all those years. When I hear a remake now I'm usually not impressed probably because the new versions don't bring back memories of what I was doing growing up through those 2 decades. "Teen Angel" made me cry when I was 5 lol too sad. Thanks again for putting these up! I'm subscribing now ♡

    Okay there was a bit of corn in the 70s. I guess that made the cool rock even more special.

      A bit?? There was a truck 🚚 load of cr@p in the 70's. I know...I was there. But....there was also incredible music as well. This compilation is weird.

    For me 80s is the best in this videos. Almost every song is a big hit. 90s second place for the fun and wierdness. 70s third place, better quality than 90s, but still rank 90s before. Maybe because of my youth back then. Lot of memoriers to the 90s music.
    Wish I could teleport back to the 70-90s and stay there forever. TH-cam can follow, but the rest of internet can stay in this millenium.

    A very wide variety of music in the 70s

  • @sallyatticum

    The thing about the 70s is that a lot of the "popular" songs were dance hits, because discos were the thing. We ALL went dancing or rollerskating to these tunes. The BEST music, though, was the rock music that we listened to on albums. Not necessarily the popular dance music.

    • @paulvaultguy
      @paulvaultguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was surprised that even at the height of disco and dance music in the late 70's, those songs for the most part weren't listed in favor of some sugary sweet pop songs. Most of those songs I don't even remember.

    • @sallyatticum
      @sallyatticum 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulvaultguy Well, this is not a billboard No 1 hits list. There are a lot of number one hits missing and a few on here I never heard of.
      But I do think, because we bought the LPs, not the singles of the rock albums, a lot of great songs never made the singles charts. So many excellent albums came out at that time. Many songs that were not on great albums sold better as singles.

      @paulvaultguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sallyatticum good point. Conversely, if you liked a particular song by a one hit wonder you bought the single not the album. Not so with Fleetwood Mac, Zeppelin, the Eagles Etc.

    Lmao. This is my teens. I don't remember half of these cuz I was plugged into rock, wasn't "popular."
    See how in 69 you had The Beatles and then in 70 you started with George Harrison. All 4 had numb 1's.
    No Zep, No Heart, No anything, what a shame.
    Rewind to The Labelles, 6:56, you guys just watched this song a few weeks ago by Mia, Pink, Lil Lim and Christina Aguilera...Lady Marmalade. 👍🏽

    Awesome job guys!! Great memories. Got 1 if you are interested. Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire. They, in some instances banned this song. Too controversial. The scary thing,
    is it was written about the vietnam war...and it would fit perfectly with what is going on in society today. Would love your opinion!! Happy New Year and keep up the great job!!

      Oh god, I looked that song up a couple years ago (when I was doing my '60s chronological TH-cam playlist) and you have no IDEA how many comments were talking about it's still relevant. (Unless you've seen those comments too, of course.) And then when I started my '70s collection, in 2020, I kept going "...this song is 50 years old...and things haven't changed..."
