    Try this:
    1. Check for spark. One kick is ample.
    2. Order new gasket set, seals and bearings.
    3. Remove engine from frame and get it on the bench.
    4. Completely strip and inspect, clean and replace all seals, bearings and any broken or worn-out parts. Oil seals are simply not designed to last 3 decades!
    5. Reassemble.
    6. Put engine back in frame
    7. Check timing with a dial gauge using timing degrees off the internet.
    8. Clean carb and replace all jets making sure you have the right sizes. They cost pennies. Never run a 2 stroke without an air filter.
    Honest mate, it's a lot more satisfying and less time-consuming than endless fault-finding and troubleshooting.
    😀👍

    When I was about 11 I bought a xr75 from a guy for $20 and some fake Oakley sun glasses. It didn't run, but I worked on it until I got it running. A few months later it caught fire from a backfire and homemade intake tube (a bicycle innertube) letting the fire out to where the carb leaked. I would fill the carb bowl and shut off the gas cause it leaked. One day I'm riding it with my friend and it ran out of gas. A construction worker filled the tank for me, and I headed off for the house about 3 or 4 mins away. I got to my yard and was hoping to get the gas shut off before anything bad happened bit it was too late, and being it had a whole tank of gas continuously leaking from the carb it was hard to put out. So I got rid of that and bought for $20 dollers! A 86 kx 80! It didn't have a cdi, so I put one from a older Suzuki model I can't remember what model but it was a 2stroke 80cc, and wouldn't you know it it fired up! I can't remember now why... but the throttle would get stuck open so We put a thick string around the sparkplug boot, too yank it off the plug when it would happen! It happened to me a few times! 😆 But boy did I love working on those things! I was 10-13 so didn't have any money but I could rig it up with superglue and duct tape! Great video man! I think it time to find me a used fixer upper dirt bike! Keep up the great work!

  • @handlebullshit

    Use flux when soldering and heat the wire, then add the solder. Let the solder flow into the joint, It's not paint.
    To prevent the heatshrink shrinking, put it on the longer piece of wire so it's further away from the heat.
    Gonna be a nice bike when you are done.

  • @rigguyjt

    You should start using a dial gauge indicator for timing. If it is advanced at all, you can put a hole in the piston.

      @@shaynedonnelly374 I thought I would mention it several times to express the importance of 2 stroke timing because you probably know how easy 4 strokes are to time. You can’t time a 2 stroke properly just by sight or else disaster looms.

  • @nou943

    One little tip. I notice in a lot of your videos that you give it throttle as you kick the bike over. This often makes it harder to start the bike. It's normally easier to get it to fire and then if it fires, THEN give it gas if it needs it.

    Rm 250 on the trailer looks like a '77 or early '78 model. Your Rm125 uses two intake systems piston port low end, then 'case reed' (you've not checked the reeds or reed lands yet) opens up for mid/top end. The cdi and correct stator part no.s can be identified from incisive googling presuming the part no. is still legible on your cdi. I think you can buy complete ignition and Boyesen (rad valve?) reed systems both cheaper then stock even if you can find them.

  • @mechdesigner9304

    Start with the fundamentals. check compression, do a leak down test if you know how. Leak down will tell you if the main seals leak or you have a gasket leak. use a new plug and check the color of the spark. Light blue is optimal. check the reeds. check the timing. and use some good gas. You cleaned the carb and the pipe isnt the issue unless its crushed.Check the jetting specs too never assume the jetting is correct. Could be a way big main jet with high float level..

    Should have loosened the screws on the stator to where it's held in place. But you can still turn it. Start the engine. Very slowly turn the stator changing the timing. Possibly the timing marks on the 250 are in a slightly different spot. There's not enough difference between the two bikes that it should matter. You've got spark. The only other thing the cdi controls is the timing curve. That should be about the same on either. If timed right has to work

    It doesn't sound like a timing issue to me or the seals either, it's fueling problem. If it was timing it wouldn't idle like it does, if it was seals it would be hard to start and probably smoke a lot. I would try an air filter and but the mixture screw to factory and go from there as a start.

    • @shotgunz124
      @shotgunz124 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s incorrect it will idle just fine when u raise the rpm it’s supposed to advance the timing to rev up that what the Cdi does

    • @TheOldRogue
      @TheOldRogue 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shotgunz124 Wrong, yes you could 'electronically' delay the ignition timing by modding but not advance without moving the trigger coil or magnets. CDI or capacitor discharge ignition charges the caps internally and releases its charge when the flywheel passes the trigger coil, it's as simple as that.

    I had a blaster that kept throwing me through a loop couldn't figure it out doing the same thing. Ended up being the crank seal. Looked like the ppl that owned it before could not get the cab to stop leaking from the bowl so they PLUGED the drain on it lol 🤦 filled the motor full of fuel and blew out all the seals on it.

    Want to know how I know this? I had a early 2000s Yamaha v Star Silverado classic edition are in the engine without the air filter to see if it would run it didn't rev up it would stall and die it would idle fine as soon as you hit the throttle it died so I put the air filter element back on in the air filter cover and it was like a new machine reved up smoother than hell

  • @eddie2799
    @eddie2799 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    By the condition of that carb It's a carb issue. Not getting enough fuel. Your idle circuit is working but secondary circuit is not. Try spraying fuel in the carb at WOT and that will tell you for sure. This test will also rule out reed problems. Easy peasy!
