  • Christiana struggled with depression in high school and found it hard to open up during talk therapy. So she began working with an art therapist at Children's Colorado and learned to deal with her emotions through art.

I have anxiety due to bullying. Because of bullying I felt alone, scared, and overall trapped. I was trapped in my anxiety. My anxiety to walk next to people, worrying about how they would judge me. One day, I had a psychiatrist session. She asked me some of my favorite hobbies. I said,” music, singing, and art”. I will never forget the day she asked to see my sketchbook. I showed her my drawings, afraid of her response. I thought she would judge me about how bad my art was. I always thought my art was bad but, most teachers said otherwise. She asked me to draw what I was feeling. Being ten, I didn’t know what that meant. I drew what I thought was anxiety. I drew my head exploding with words. From then on, I drew anything and everything. Now I am turning twelve and just because of one art therapy session, I am the happy, child I am today.

That's amazing! Drawing is so relieving and calming, that's why I based off my channel on art!

Art is profoundly healing. Emotions which are taught to be held in during childhood or hidden come out to heal the soul. I know. Lovely story!

I wanted to say thank you for sharing your experience. I am a student looking to do a presentation about how helpful art therapy can be when dealing with depression.Something I'm finding is there isn't a lot of people who share their experience with art therapy. So it's very helpful that you've shared your experience.

Small touch but I like the use of blues and yellows at the end to show the happiness returning.

I am an avid #MentalHealthAwareness advocate and performer, and I love this so much. I travel the country trying to bring that awareness on stages, in classrooms, hospitals, and on my TH-cam channel, so I get excited when I see other advocates. 💙❤

Thank you Christiana for sharing, and thank you Children's Hospital Colorado for arranging and uploading this! As we are inquiring into art therapy in our 10th Grade art class, this video is a very meaningful resource to us. We look forward to more videos as this, as it is personal , thus really triggering our empathy, which will then let us gain further understanding into the depth of creative arts as a modality in healing practices. Thank you again.

You don't have to be an artist to use drawing as a transformational tool. Neurographica is the new art form where drawing simple likes helps you removes blocks.
