    Art saved me. I started as a way to work thru grief & stress when I found my roommate dead from suicide. Art is an absolute necessity that should be encouraged more.

    I am glad I found your channel because you talk about things that really resonate with me. I am trying to launch my own art career after 50 years of only doing art for myself. The harder I try to jump through hoops in the art world, the more stressful art becomes, which is the VERY OPPOSITE affect of why I do art in the first place! My canned answer to all the people who have come in and out of my life, who ask why I don't do art professionally, is that I'm scared if I try to earn a living off of my art, it will no longer be the therapy my brain needs, but a chore. I think we artists can write books on the subject.

      Thank you, really appreciate that. 🙏🏻
      I agree, it's so easy to taint our relationship to art. Making art your only career is really not for everyone. If I could do anything else, I would. But I have failed at keeping my hobbies and my livelihood separate my whole life. So I kind of have to walk the tightrope. 😅

    This talk made me think of sailing. You don't have to know the physics & engineering behind sail design and wind dynamics to get from point A to point B. It may be more enjoyable to simply focus on the sensation of the wind...to be present.

    Such an important video! I also found that doing sort of intuitive abstract art without a planned outcome has been helping me overcome the performative perfectionism I am so prone to veer into so frequently. 💜

    Love this. I got into painting after burn out too, I had art therapy at a local mental health place and it helped me to lift out of a severe depression. Your video has reminded me why I love to paint, which had got lost in the process of Instagram algorithms and of trying to make this as a career.

    I 100% agree with you! I have a youtube channel and I'm to the point where I feel I can't do anything without filming it, because I'm passing up content! It's absurd! I need to work on doing it simply for myself💚
    I so look forward to your videos. Thank you.

      Haha, you too? I know we're not alone in that though. Have heard several other art youtubers talk about it. At least we're aware of the problem. 😅 Thank you so much! 🖤

      I just started my TH-cam channel and have zero content because already I am overwhelmed with all I need to learn before I can hope to produce anything someone would spend their short attention span watching. At the end of the day, I just want to do art, but I'm finding to do it professionally I need to know a lot more than just my craft.

    • @LouiseStigell
      @LouiseStigell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I feel you, and this is a difficult subject. I have days when I feel the same way. Like "I just want to be an artist, can I please be allowed to just be an artist?" 😂 And I do think it's still possible to some degree, to be a very traditional kind of artist. To mostly just make art and sell it through galleries. But it will probably take a lot more time and energy than running a TH-cam channel or a blog or an IG account or making Skillshare classes and all the other ways of the "new art market". I think it comes down to: what ELSE could I see myself doing, that will let me build an audience and an income. without making me miserable, and that might even feed my creativity and my art practice? And for me, that thing si TH-cam. Yes, it takes a lot of time that I could spend on making art, and some days i do'nt like that. But at the same time, it fuels my art practice and connects me to other artists and opens up possibilities. So it's a mindset thing, I believe. Maybe for you, it's not YT but some other form of content creation/marketing/relationship building that will accomplish the same thing, while also letting you make lots of art? 😊

      @@LouiseStigell I can tell we are like minded about all of this. The ONLY reason I keep IG is because I'm using it more as a journal vs making money off of it, plus I want community with other artists. BUT I really can't stand FB or its CEO, so I am likely going to leave it eventually. I will build my journal and community elsewhere and I think TH-cam is a good place for it. In the end, I will eventually have a fulltime art career because that is where the universe has been leading me without a doubt.

      All the time I take to edit videos to upload alot of times I feel it's time wasted I could be working on something else I'd much rather do. I havnt uploaded since the end of July I'm trying to decide if I m going to again or not

    I myself was always into Art specifically lead pencil realism style drawing for as long as I can remember. ( A side note right here I’m a South Paw Hand Dominate so this might also play a lot into my love for the hobby as well)But in the recent few years or just last year as I don’t recall how got into it exactly. But i found myself loving the messiness of paint & sometimes something would come out of it. (Also as a plug i did dabble a bit into Pastel Sticks a bit but it just didn’t hit the same)But most of the time it was just a bit of useless patterns that wasn’t anything. But I loved it because it allows you to have an innocent slice of ourselves in a believable way & not like an out of place manchild/or a emo trying so hard to be hip & cool. Who tries to find their younger self(s) in the world that’s full of in some cases doom & gloom all the time. We can all use a Hobby with an innocent slice of ourselves that doesn’t get squashed by the rest of society.

    Hej! Har saknat dig. Bra tankar och idéer. Jag håller just på att göra om mitt tjusiga vitrinskåp till ett hobbymaterialskåp, trots att det var mycket finare med vintage porslin i. Men jag insåg att jag behövde ha materialet synligt och nära till hands för annars blir det inte av att jag pysslar, syr, målar etc. Kram och fin helg! :)

    • @LouiseStigell
      @LouiseStigell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Saknat dig med! Tänkte att jag skulle sms snart och kolla läget, så det kommer jag nog göra i helgen. 🥰
      Åh, ett hobbymaterialskåp låter ju lysande. Och visst kan man väl organisera det tjusigt i korgar och sånt, så att det ser både inbjudande och prydligt ut. Skicka bild när det är klart! ❤
