Libertads!! They Have Their Own "Spot" Price!

- That's right, silver has a spot price, and Mexican Libertad's have a Libertad Price. This is the price that one Libertad is worth and it is the official price given by the Mexican Government which includes spot price plus seigniorage. I discuss all of this in the video, then at the end there is a mail call from Stacking Kat, Miyoshi Bullion, Coin Spot, and @Doc_McStackins.

I actually did know that about Libertads but it's always good to have a refresher. They also command a decent premium almost everywhere. They hold their value that's for sure. Great video my friend.
@Silver Steeler, thank you! You’re the first person who’s said they knew about this! But yeah, of course, Libertads sell for more than these prices. The prices quoted in the video are just the official prices given by the Country of Mexico.

Love my Libertads. So many people in the stacking community are into these coins. I’m half Mexican descent on my mother’s side so Mexican coinage is very cool to me.

Great video. Being in Mexico it is real easy to get Libertads. I pay $7.00 over spot and if I sell them back I get $3.00 over spot. Since there is no delivery shipping charge, I am pretty much getting them at spot price. The site you showed is from Banco Azteca. My LCS gives me an even better deal when I buy them by the kilo. There is so much silver here in Mexico. None of the online dealers I checked have any Libertads, and the ones that do sell for way over spot. I think I am in the right place. Thanks for the video. Imma a simple man. I see Libertads, I like and subscribe! I’m Mexican so I feel compelled and a duty to stack all Mexican gold/silver but all of a sudden the huge demand for them! I just started one year ago!

Where is the best place to buy them and which are the most valuable?
Wikipedia is actually a great source to view Libertad mintages, then I recommend browsing sold listings on eBay to see how prices can differ.

Just picked up 10 2020's from Banco Azteca in Cancun for 604 mx each.
I did not know non Mexican nationals cannot purchase them. Thankfully, a very helpful local purchased them for me.

I have not dealt with Libretads yet. Glad to know they have value denomination, not sure if I like Spot.
The reason I like a gold Maple with a $50 denomination on it would be for Customs.
If there is a $10,000 limit crossing a border, officially you can cross a border with 200 one ounce coins.

This is where crypto has value,I know how the old school pm guys feel, and with good reason, but when your value is stored where only you have access and it's access key is stored in your mind, there's not a lot they can do about it.

I noticed depends where you buy them. My LCS sells them like generic bullion, and buys them like generic, but online it's a different story.
Oh yeah, well if that’s the case, I would buy buy buy if it’s sold at the generic round price, I’m sure that won’t last.

I've been watching a bunch of libertads on eBay. How would one unload a bunch? Also, what are the tax implications of selling them? Do you pay taxes on the profit? I don't see how to even determine profit if I'm not sure how much was paid for them. In a few things with the tax code, I see you don't have to report it, but I'm not sure if I'm misinterpreting this. Thanks!!
Well I’m not a tax expert. I would just try to sell them locally for cash using a local resale app.

I had no idea about the Mexican silver coins, I believe it though you just can't simply find them at spot anywhere!
Yeah aftermarket sales from bullion dealer's certainly aren't at this price. And the Mexican Mint doesn't ship these. I'm really not sure if you showed up in person if these would be the actual prices at the mint today, there may be an additional premium. From my research, I found that this is what they are worth if you were to spend them as currency.

I bought a few back in September. I think I got them in January if I remember correctly. They were my first ever silver purchase. I'm pretty certain I paid too much for them but with these crazy high premiums I could probably break even if I was looking to sell.

@@SilverOceans Yes, they were 2020 Libertad's. I forgot to include that part. I ordered them in September. I had to wait for them so long that when they arrived in the mail I didn't know what they were until I opened it up. I had totally forgot about them. 😅

Libertads are my favorite coins, the best time to get them is usually the first day they are released by the online bullion dealers and Libertads are the last government minted coins to be released, so we'll need to look for them at the end of the year.
What is the difference between coin and round I think the coin should have an amount minted on it! And should not flux
Coins are monetized metals issued by or for governments. Rounds are essentially round bars, they are bullion ingots made for people who want to invest in the metal content.

I'm looking into buying some libertad just want to learn about it and decide where to buy
It’s hard finding a good deal. I recommend signing up for the in-stock reminder from SD Bullion, then wait for them to come in. Sometimes they also have cull options that are a couple bucks cheaper. Other than that, the best time to buy them is when they are first released each year.

They are great coins to have but not for stacking due to the super high premiums. I have a full tube of 2020 1 oz Libertad, 1985 sealed roll and few proofs, but its kind of numismatic...a collector piece, not for mass volume stacking.
I buy libertads to put in my deep stack. Buying in on the best deals available. 1oz 2020s at 40 a pop. Got a 2021 proof at 85. Getting a ms68 1999 for under 200 next.
Very fair prices. They are awesome coins. Usually when they first come out they are reasonable. The 2021s were different though, I think from leftover hype from 2020.

I bought it for the deep stack. I'm saving it.

My favorite sovereign coins are Libertads...... I just wish they had higher mintages and were more readily available. I live in Korea and this year in 2021 they sold out in less than an hour. Luckily I managed to buy 2. Better than nothing.

@Jonni, to the best of my knowledge, the Mexican Mint does not ship bullion, but you can buy from them if you show up in person.
La Casa de la Moneda de Mexico does ship to Mexican citizens and they ask a lot of paperwork to do that. I have tried.

Yes, the side with the coats of arms is the front aka the obverse. The side with the winged victory is the reverse.

Sounds like possibly a 4 Reale? There is an app called Coinoscope. With that app you can take a picture of the coin and it will tell you what it is. Or you can even try typing in the detail written on the coin into Google to see what comes up.
