I love the idea they did for the belt and taking the globe plates idea from the Intercontinental belt. But this will take some time to get used too. But the Heavyweight title will be missed alot. That title just screamed "main title" when you saw it. Heavyweight Belt-chan, I miss you already!!!

Yeah, I hate how people act like this belt sucks. It looks great. The only bad side is that it doesn't quite look as good as the belt it's replacing... and the other belt it's replacing. It's an 8/10 belt replacing TWO 10/10s.

Totally agree. I think what makes the IWGP Heavyweight belt that was retired so special is it really helped bring in more American audience.
They fused the IWGP Intercontinental Championship with the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship into a mighty morphin heavyweight championship belt.

The IWGP Intercontinental Championship belongs to NJPW and they have the power to reactivate or deactivate titles. So it will be their decision if they want to reactivate the IWGP Intercontinental Championship or not.
I hope Naito is eager to destroy more belts in the near future.

This belt exudes just as much class as every other belt. Nothing they ever could have made would beat the V4. But they felt a need to make one belt. I think it looks great.
Tanahashi and okada cry in the backstage for iwgp heavyweight championship and naito and nakamura cry for the iwgp intercontinental championship

I don't know why but I feel like that thing looks like the WWE Divas Title had a cross over with those fancy waist bags that people wear. Then the designer had a second thought and slapped a lot of expensive stuff to make it look expensive.

On average, each Heavyweight/Intercontinental belt has been about 10-15 lbs.

It's a shame since V.4 was easily one of the most beautiful belts to exist.
Still a part of me that hopes they can bring back that belt, even if it feels fairly bleak at this point.
That maybe can happen. Remember when nakamura brought the V2 back if I recall correctly
V4 is not coming back as the artwork isn't owned by NJPW but a beltmaker whose business has gone a bit to crap lately. Why the IC belt looked off after it was brought back was because it was designed by the same beltmaker whom wasn't trusted enough to produce a new belt without trying f*** them [NJPW] over and NJPW had a cast replica made. The v4 that Kota was carrying was also a replica but it was better-made than the IC.

@@Loner_Kun He only brought it back because Brock Lesnar still had possession of the then-current IWGP Heavyweight Title belt when he left New Japan, so they had to bring that one back until Kurt Angle won it from Brock in IGF.

I'll miss that old design. In time, I'll get used to it, but I feel the AEW world title is now the best looking one, IMO.
As for me, my top five are the following:

3. AEW World title
4. NWA Worlds Championship
5. IWGP IC Title

I can’t unsee the Cody design on that belt.
When they was zooming in on it as they were explaining the meaning of everything on that title, it felt very prestigious, & it will continue to be. Also that thing was bling blinging & shining like butter, it definitely has some nice gold on it that's for damn sure. I still would take the previous title more, it's just the one I grew to love. Doesn't mean this new title don't look nice, because it does, but I prefer the previous. Regardless the lineage will pass on & combined into one with Kota Ibushi. Always remember the man makes the title, not the title makes the man. Let's see what happens going forward. The detail they put in the title made me respect it, even if I like the original better, it's still got a beautiful shine to it

I think the belt looks amazing. If you notice throughout the titles history it kinda looks like the older belt but more modern. Or it's like they put a little bit of every iwgp world titlea design in one belt, Well deserved for ibushi

Design aside, the thought they put into it actually makes sense. They wanted to keep a balance between paying an homage to the past and opening a door to the future. The wings basically signify their aim of reaching distances past their shores.

The explanation of the design of the World Title was interesting and showed meaning. They put some thought into it. The design goes back to the original title for history, side plates to remember the Intercontinental Title and the winged design to expand outside of Japan which we know New Japan has been trying for a few years.

A new era has just begun. I liked this ceremony and how NJPW showcased the legacy of both belts and all of its former champions. Kota Ibushi is a great champion to have in these changing times. He represents a new era and has the respect and the class of a world champion.

As time goes on, It grows on me significantly. However, the Heavyweight Championship V4 exuded in a class of its own and the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship can't really compare.
While im not super feeling the belt, i like that they explained they're reasoning behind the design and that its a call back to championships of past! makes me alot more accepting of the changes

I love wwe so I hope I dont sound like a hater or a smark but the iwgp titles always have been more respectable to me, the wwe championship is like a slut its tossed around on a whim ( I hate saying that but honestly out of all the wwe champions current or past you can make an argument alot of those title reigns dont matter because it's been hot potatoes so many times, nothing about winning the wwe championship 16 times sounds impressive 16 times in a 10 year time and not to mention how many 1 day title reigns or screw jobs or money in the bank cash ins it devalues the belt, but what makes new Japan titles more meaning full is that not everyone gets a turn even the most established might only be never open weight level and that's an honor compare that to the united states or intercontinental title that's just passed around like a blunt, belts in new japan will always have a meaning and a purpose because no matter how good you are winning is never guaranteed

I want to give credit to New Japan for explaining the design of the belt. I also liked how they acknowledged every former champion to each belt. It's like when Mick Foley was defending the look of the Universal title back in 2016 when he said "It isn't the look of the belt that's memorable, but the matches that's for the championship". Hopefully, we have some amazing Dave Meltzer-worthy 5 star championship matches.

In the early 2000s, the 2nd belt design was hated by the fans & they didn't gave a chance of the new belt design but two man changed it forever & created so many memorial moments, legendary matches & back then one man broke a record of V11 and the other 1 hour matches against AJPW.
The men were Yuji Nagata & Hiroyoshi Tenzan, now it's time for Kota Ibushi, Shingo Takagi & the new generation like Great O-Khan, Shota Umino, Yota Tsuji, Yuya Uemura.
I can't wait for the future NJPW, future legendary matches, future memorial moments.
The Second Belt was... not a nice looking belt. The shape reminds me of the Burger King crowns they give out with kids meals.

@@Surfword Keep in mind COVID has played a major role in Moxley's ability to appear. Japan has been much more strict with regulations, and there was not a working state side relationship between the two companies for awhile. I don't think it was Moxley's fault at all.

The more I see the belt though the better it looks, especially at certain angles. It looks quite nice with its shape when its held up or when he briefly had it over his shoulder.
For me personally I think the faceplate is a little narrow in height and I would have liked it to have looked 'bigger' (will this title look a little small when worn around the waist?). But I don't hate the belt.
I really appreciate that they took the time to explain the belt too and why the design looked the way it did rather than just reveal it as a new shaped belt.
I'll miss both the Heavyweight and IC title belts because they were both stunning, but hopefully this one will grow on me more as time passes.

@@d3kadE905 I've seen people comparing them with pictures side by side. Yes, it does have a similar-ish shape but I see this as more of a return to the V2 of the IWGP Heavyweight Title design.
For people who have 'seen' other belt designs in this one I can see how its hard to unsee it when you look at this belt. I personally dont immediately see the Divas title in this belt, but thats just me.
I have found it funny with people comparing it to the shape of Codys neck tattoo though.

I remember a promo Omega cut once when he went to pick up the heavyweight title and said something along the lines of "God, that's heavy!"
Carrying both those belts can't be easy but he definately makes it look more awkward than previous champs.
Small note - when he tries to flip/swing the title from holding it so he can put it over his shoulder I always think he does it in the reverse direction as to what would be easier to easily swing it over his shoulder and it always looks like its about to fall off.
If I was management backstage I'd be telling Ibushi to practice standing in front of a mirror and holding/moving the belt around.
Perhaps one of the reasons why the new title design is a little smaller/narrower is with this in mind if they see Ibushi having long/multiple title reigns and have designed the belt around him physically carrying it?

I love it when a title takes elements fro. All that has come before. I really hope Kota starts wearing this title around his waist though.
Unlike a lot of people I really like the design it feels very unique compared to any other championship in history, but I would have rather wanted it to be a new design for another championship or a completely new one

On paper, the idea of combining aspects from all the different heavyweight championships and the intercontinental belt is the coolest idea possible.
To paraphrase certain IWGP champion, this looks like a toy and I would very much rather be seen holding the one Muta has.

I personally don't think the new title is bad, in fact I kind of like it. But it was replacing two of the most beautiful titles in the world and there was no way they were gonna be able to top either of them.
Why to combine Heavyweight Title with Intercontinental Title, its not like that they are two titles of same category like WWE championship and World Heavyweight Championship that u can combine them into one as they are in same promotion.
I think its all because of the Japanese pro-wrestling culture that if you lose one belt he has to lose the other one with that same person. Thus they got cornered with the booking and just combined it.
By new japan standards they kinda are, the iwgp intercontinental championship was treated to be almost as prestigious as the iwgp heavyweight championship it even main evented wrestlekingdom because the fans wanted to see that match over the heavyweight title match, unlike in wwe were they treat belts like toys and props and devalue them new Japan holds their belts in high regard also unlike wwe the belts in new Japan arent won by just anyone, the intercontinental championship in wwe has been won by almost anyone and half the time it's not defend on ppv it's on the pre show or not even defended the iwgp intercontinental title was treated as the belt narrowly behind it's like the heavyweight belt is goku and the intercontinental is vegata goku is stronger but vegeta is right behind and when they fuse they become something new so look at it from that point of view in wwe the world title is goku or Vegeta and the mid card belts are basically killin and the 24/7 title is mr satan doesn't add very much to absorb the belts

Love the montage of footage of past champions for both championships. However, I wish NJPW had kept both Championships. The time will come again when NJPW does shows around the world again and I am looking forward to go to NJPW Shows again.
I like how they explained the history & the designs behind it. I think other promotions should do this.
The history of Champions presentation and seriousness is exactly what AEW needs to do. Really want them, AEW, to step up the seriousness in sports presentation.
As for the new belt, I prefer the old one but I can get used to it. Well done, Ibushi. One of my 3 most favourite wrestlers (the other two are Kenny Omega and AJ Styles).
Random: My favorite AJ Styles match is against Low Ki in Zero One in Japan. It's a cool kind of MMA inspired style early, fused with that x division era.

One thing you can't deny. The belt may not be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but it looks expensive and like they put a lot of thought into it. Tbh, that's all you need from a world title looks wise. The champions and booking really will make this title. Let Ospreay ever get this belt and do something with it for a year and a half or more.
It’s not bad. It’s just the last one was so iconic. Both it and the intercontinental title. And they both looked so good. It’s gonna take awhile for people to get used to it. I also think a rounder design always looks best

No it doesn’t at all. The only reason everyone hates the Universal title is because it’s the exact same belt as the WWE title except Red/Blue.
The WWE US Title looks a million times better than this and so does the IC title. New Japan officially has the worst belt.
Well to me it does, to me just changing the strap color isn't enough at least back in the day we had the big gold belt and the wwe title belt two distinct different looking titles not the same one with different colors

Any Wrestle Talk fans that would remember the worst title designs that promotions made, list by Blampied. I believe this belt can at least be an honorary mention.
It just doesn't look like a world title to me, not a fan of the design at all. That resembles a mid card championship if anything and seems to be a huge step back from what they had previously.
Although this seems to be a trend in wrestling across the globe with WWE and IMPACT doing something similarly egregious to their main titles in favor of their predecessors.
I'll get over it but for now? Not a fan.
