  • This video explains what Marxism is in simple terms that anyone who is completely new to the topic will be able understand.
I wanted this introduction to Marxism to be broken down into straightforward concepts and examples so you can build your knowledge and confidence early in your studies.
Marxist theory in sociology is based on the view there is a conflict between social groups in society. The business owners are the most powerful group in society and they control the workers and society for their benefit.
    This video covers
    1. Main ideas of Marxism
    2. Marxist explanations of education, the legal system and religion
    3. Criticisms of Marxism

“The great resignation” as their calling it today, may suggest Marx predictions are coming true.

I dont understand what you mean by no revolution. There has been many revolutions in the soviet union, china etc so what do you mean by this?

Another excellent video! I'm looking forward to your Functionalism one as I personally think you did such a marvelllous job on the Sociology of Religion, delivered in a clear and concise manner that saved me a lot of time last year. Thank you!!!

Thanks Christine! Glad they're saving you some time. I'm hoping to build up a decent bank of videos which I can use to flip lessons as needed. I've gone for a slightly different style with the functionalism video; would be interested to know what you think.

Good video, but in terms of criticism 1:
You’re right that there wasn’t and international revolution by the proletariat that Marx’s predicted,
But huge revolutions did happen under the influence of Marxism, with five communists states still existing today (though they’ve definitely deviated from Marxist beginning)

Christ... can ANYONE on Marxist TH-cam actually describe what Marxism IS instead of just listing off what it ISN'T?
I'm beginning to think it's a sociopolitical theory that espouses grievance as ideology.

Sounds like you're a Marxism expert, perhaps you could make a video to enlighten us :)

@@thesociologytutor2449 You read "expert" from that blurb of a comment? I fear you grant me more than I can claim.
I have, however, seen enough Marxism videos on TH-cam to have an impression (albeit anecdotal) that the algorithm either does not uncover, or content creators cannot make, an "explanatory" video that describes the philosophy in a manner that is a straightforward description of what it is and how it in fact functions... and without ANY appeals to morality, authority, or by "description by negation" i.e. Trying to define it by explaining what it is NOT (capitalism).
If it's a "scientific theory" as I have often heard it described, then it can be expounded upon and explained without any prescriptive moralizing. That seems to never be the case. Makes one think it is philosophy, not science.

Perhaps the unspoken assumption of the people making the videos is that Marxism is a philosophy and not a science? It's hard to see to how the theory and methods of Marxism/socialism are akin to those of the natural sciences. I don't think Marx frequently described his work as scientific.
