I knew how to use VCAM before, but I watched the whole video, because, damn it Jazza, why are you so easy to listen to? You are like some kind of Bob Ross for Flash animators. Awesome video, and thank you for sharing the knowledge on animation :)
1) I'd either tween the shakes manually, or if it goes for a while, create a graphic with the camera inside it, tween a looped segment of shakes, then tween that graphic on the main timeline. 2) I personally don't animate something I don't have to. That's why I plan the camera shots with an animatic first.
Wow that animation is amazing. I've known about Vcam and love it (though I haven't quite figured out how to make it reset when I use a new scene). This animation though is probably the best Flash animation I've ever seen
Jazza, you're really helping me out. For someone that wants to make flash animations online and doesn't know where or how to start, I owe a bunch to you! Sending much love your way! :D
Never thought of just having a big colored box to do fades--usually I would just properties->tint the vcam itself. Now that I think about it, this would make complicated combinations of movement and color easier to choreograph and test... I didn't think I would learn anything I didn't already know from this particular vid. I was wrong. Kudos.
Whenever I use fades to/from black with VCams, I find it easier to simply set the brightness of the VCam itself. Combining it with motion and zoom, I do it all on one layer. Basically, you would tween your VCam's motion first, then add keyframes to tween the fades.
That distortion has nothing to do with the camera or a zoom, its the image. Go into your library, find the bitmap of the image, right click and go properties, then make sure you tick the box to apply smoothing. By default it isn't ticked. I have to do that every time I import an image and use it. It's VERY important.
ever since I got a new flash program (CS5) my old camera from flash 8 was incompatible with CS5 and using other people's action script wasn't making anything better. But this does. Thank you so much!
That fixed me. I went into the camera scene, set the stage to my size, then the camera I centered it with the align tool and entered the object so I could resize layer 1 to fit my stage. Now I have everything working right.
I remember Larry! Ah, the nostalgia. I have a new appreciation for that short, you put a lot of work into it. Even forever ago, you were a genius at what you did. I'll keep all this stuff in mind and thanks for the tools.
Jazza you are awesome I like every work of you and I´m glad that you share your experiences with us to teach us noobs :) couldn´t you create a cartoon so in the future we could watch your cartoons in the TV? :O
LMAO ALL THIS TIME IM SUBBED TO THIS CHANNEL AND DIDN'T KNOW YOU HAD AN ANIMATION CHANNEL!! wow... subbed to jaza studios. 9:39 wow how did he tween that to make a 3Dish looking turn around? pretty cool O.o
You need to have uploaded more than 5 artworks, then have someone 'scout' you to be able to upload to the public art portal. Until then its kind of a personal profile. :)
bro make sure that if you have downloaded the actionscript 2.0 V-Cam then make the animation in ActionScript 2.0 only if it's not that then the V-Cam will not work.....Or try downloading the V-Cam for ActionScript 3.0 and use it in that..... I hope I helped a bit.......
Oh! Also, it was awesome when you killed the TheWeebl's "Get On My Horse", guy! Some hilarious archery! I need to quit fanboying and spamming comments.
Wow, I just spent a couple hours viewing your tutorials on animation. I like the quick pace and detailed explanation, and the reference files are very useful for learning. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
There is this website called Swivel, it is a program for exporting Flash movies (not mp4s) to mp4s so export it to SWF on Flash, then export it with it on swivel so the camera will follow your animation with it. I know because I work with this software.
PLEASE HELP :/ My stage size is 1920x1080 and I turned the Vcam into the exact same size, however when i export the movie (ctrl+enter) the animation appears like if I had the Vcam on a completely different place and chops of most o my screen... I can't find the solution anywhere and have read almost every single comment to see if I could find it, but without success... Please help
dionisiogdrb I've got the exact same problem. The re-sizing instructions work perfectly for the Action Script 2 version but I animate in Action Script 3. When I re-size the AS_3 version I get the same problem you get. I'll let you know if I find a way to fix it.
So the problem would disappear when animating in AS_2? Is it possible to change a AS_3 document to AS_2? And what are the diferences between the two? Im sorry im very new to this, thanks for the repply
I literally just tried that one minute ago and it didn't work. (You copy and past each layer to the new AS2 document) I guess I'm just clueless on how to do this lol xD Sorry I'm not of any help. (For now)
To those who are having trouble with the camera showing after exporting and not working how it should! You might check and make sure you're using the right actionscript that matches the camera's name!!!
THIS tutorial!!!! Sooo cool.... Thanks Jazza for being so awesome to sharing your knowledge and files with us :) hope everyone is learning as much as I do from you. Keep it up and SEEYAH LATER
I'm more of a sis, but I still don't mind this. Either way, when I finish my animations, you're going to be mentioned in the credits of every single one, because that's /exactly/ how much you've done to help!
I think somebody already posted this, and I think I would have to agree. Do all the animating in Adobe Flash, and do all the camera work in Sony Vegas.
you have one of my favorite utube channels! I appreciate you so much, i almost get a tear in my eye, and i am a 15 year old never-afraid motocross and supermoto rider from ice-cold-viking-Norway!! Love ya, and i'm probly gonna start with animation too. i also think of myself as a good guitarplayer. (i am not braggin', i never do, EVER!) keep them tutorials coming, and please never stop reading and answering comments!!!!! love ya (no gay)!! Now go make new episodes of Larry!
FOR EVERYONE THAT USES CC!!!! IT WORKS IF YOU OPEN THE AS3 FILE AND DELETE THE INFO LAYER, THEN SAVE IT AS A NEW FILE!! YOU CANNOT IMPORT IT INTO A NEW FILE, BUT YOU CAN JUST START YOUR PROJECT IN THAT FILE SINCE THERES NOTHING BUT THE VCAM IN THERE.
it would properly help to explain that its not rly useful for frame by frame animation (some might find a good use for it tho..) but its almost alpha and omega for "tween" animation. just my 2 cents
Hi Jazza! I'm interested in how did you make your character from all these angles at 9:39. Did you draw it frame by frame or you used some 3D software to do so? It might be a dumb question, but I'm really looking forward to an answer.
I am creating an animation in adobe flash cs6 and have the v cam ready to use. However when I put the v cam over something I wont to show a close up of and test movie, I can't see the close up instead I just see the animation with the v cam box infront of it which looks stupid. I don't understand why it isn't working. I have a v cam file I have opened in another tab which shows a demonstration of it moving and when I test movie in that it zooms in, shows close ups etc. But when I copy it over to the animation I'm working on it will not work. We have several different v cam's that we have tried and everytime we test movie you can still see it. HELP!!
turns out the vcam zooming in a little too far. I put it on my project (zoomed out) and then tried to zoom in, when I do ctrl+enter it cuts off about half of the screen, and then upon zooming in, still cuts off about half the screen?
Jazza, PLZ HELP ME. I downloaded the cam and it works as i preview it but when I export the movie it shows the cam lines and no zooming, i read some comments about ppl having the same issue and that you said that we ought to make sure if it;s script 2 or 3. i made a script 2 flash project and a script 3 flash project and applied the cam in both, in 3 there;s the annoying camlines and no zooming, and in 2 there's no cam or cam affect at all :( :( idk what to do, plz help me!!
So I know you'll probably never read this, but I seriously need help. I have already asked many animators and none know the answer. I'm having issues with the Vcam. It may just be this Vcam, I haven't tested others, but I'm having really hard issues with it. Everytime I use the Vcam, even if I don't move it (just stays the same through out the whole animation), it keeps shrinking my animation and moving it to the top left corner. And I see everything, like even everything outside of the stage. When I do move it around and tween it, it shows the movements, but still shrinks it and shows everything outside of the stage.I have everything set right, but no matter what it keeps doing this. And I know it is NOT the actionscript, I have the correct one set up. Please help I need to know before my MAP part is due :(
Another weird problem here. Setting Flash to any publishing profile that's not the default will bring up compile errors. Editing the default profile each and every time is an inconvenient workaround, but it's a temporary solution until someone comes up with something more permanent.
Does the Vcam not work for Flash CC? I have used it in CS6 and it works fine. Now I have moved to using Flash CC the camera frame appears in the movie export and does not operate as a camera. This happens even with the action script 3 version vcam. Please any ideas?

Awesome video, and thank you for sharing the knowledge on animation :)
Funny that, I've already made that tutorial ready to upload at the end of the weekend. BECAUSE I LOVE YOU.
i know that im probably 10 years too late but uh is there any vcams for macromedia flash 8?
i guess there wasnt :
1) I'd either tween the shakes manually, or if it goes for a while, create a graphic with the camera inside it, tween a looped segment of shakes, then tween that graphic on the main timeline. 2) I personally don't animate something I don't have to. That's why I plan the camera shots with an animatic first.
jazza, thanks again!! improving my animations :)
That might be due to using a lot of filters. It shouldn't lag. Either way, rendering it to video with Swivel will remove lag anyway.
Never thought of just having a big colored box to do fades--usually I would just properties->tint the vcam itself. Now that I think about it, this would make complicated combinations of movement and color easier to choreograph and test...

Here after 5 years. You tutorials were worth it!
That sequence took a whole day in itself... it'd be easier for people to just check it out themselves, kinda hard to explain.
That distortion has nothing to do with the camera or a zoom, its the image. Go into your library, find the bitmap of the image, right click and go properties, then make sure you tick the box to apply smoothing. By default it isn't ticked. I have to do that every time I import an image and use it. It's VERY important.
Hii please reply!
Yay! You almost gave away one of your old movies. (I checked it out in decompiler when was translating it into russian to translate text)
I haven't done any Flash in years, but I still enjoy watching these. Am I crazy?
ever since I got a new flash program (CS5) my old camera from flash 8 was incompatible with CS5 and using other people's action script wasn't making anything better. But this does. Thank you so much!
10:00 mark, mind blown!!! Jazza is a clever bastard lol nice trick there.
Make sure the little chain link next to the height and width is broken, you don't want it constraining. You want it to just be what you type in.
I loved the video
As you do to synchronize the gestures of the face with the character in motion
That fixed me. I went into the camera scene, set the stage to my size, then the camera I centered it with the align tool and entered the object so I could resize layer 1 to fit my stage. Now I have everything working right.
thank god that we have you on this planet thank you so much !!!
That last effect is so awesome!! We thank you :D
THANKS SOOOO MUCH. FINALLY A WORKING VCAM.
How used shape tween and masking to do so.Very well done
Soham Devasar he made a video about shape tweens
***** look at that video to see how
ya,just checked that one.lots of tweens and masking done.
Thanks for the love bro, I'll make sure to put it in a special place. Like my pants.
You need to have uploaded more than 5 artworks, then have someone 'scout' you to be able to upload to the public art portal. Until then its kind of a personal profile. :)
Dude, you helped me so much, that i think i should put you in the credits of anything i make haha
Jazza thank you it really helped me for camera shake
Thanks! The ActionScript 2.0 version worked for me
everytime i export it dosnt crop to the camera >:(
same with me
yea me too i am trying to use it but it doesn't work idk
maybe try using an Action Script 2.0 instead of 3.0?
bro make sure that if you have downloaded the actionscript 2.0 V-Cam then make the animation in ActionScript 2.0 only if it's not that then the V-Cam will not work.....Or try downloading the V-Cam for ActionScript 3.0 and use it in that..... I hope I helped a bit.......

Some hilarious archery!

Wow, I just spent a couple hours viewing your tutorials on animation. I like the quick pace and detailed explanation, and the reference files are very useful for learning. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
This changes my life. Thank you.
You resolved my years old problem :D
I used to tween all the layers to move the camera... you made it so easy :)
My work has become so much cleaner and production is faster. Thanks a lot Josiah, you're a hero!

Hey, Jazza. Just wanna say thanks for all the videos you make including this. I've been looking around for how to attain a camera and here it is.
PLEASE HELP :/

Thanks anyway man :)
If you find the solution please tell me, I will do the same
Fantastic Tutorial on Vcam's (Virtual Camera) in Flash!!
Thank you Jazza for your brilliant Support! Good Job. Greatings from Germany!
Thank you Jazza ... This is very creative.
Dear Jazza
I feel like I owe you something. These tutorials are amazingly helpful and motivating!
the vcam is good, but whenever i try exporting, it never crops to the camera, help plz
Idk if this would still be useful but Use actionscript 2.0 with these VCams. Or rather use newer versions with inbuilt VCam
Thanks Jazza! It's time to step up my animation game! :)
To those who are having trouble with the camera showing after exporting and not working how it should!
You might check and make sure you're using the right actionscript that matches the camera's name!!!
TO EVERYONE THAT HAS PROBLEMS WITH VCAM.
export your animation and try to zoom-in/zoom-out with premiere or other video edit programms.
That’s exactly what I said a couple months back, and I agree.
Jazza i love your animation
if your movie looks like widen or too stretchy then make sure you resized camera resolution in symbol edit not in scene
THIS tutorial!!!! Sooo cool.... Thanks Jazza for being so awesome to sharing your knowledge and files with us :) hope everyone is learning as much as I do from you. Keep it up and SEEYAH LATER
Wow! Good tutorial! Bravo
You bloody genius Jazza!
Help i use Flash CC and my Vcams dont work
Thanks for the Vcams Jazza! I love your work and your tutorials are great.
This is so awesome, and it's work as well
I thought that was no such thing on flash, thankyou.
I'm more of a sis, but I still don't mind this. Either way, when I finish my animations, you're going to be mentioned in the credits of every single one, because that's /exactly/ how much you've done to help!
i love ya man, youre really helping animators and artists a lot, thank you very much for your tutorials Jazza.
Thank you for this! All of your videos are incredibly helpful, and it is so appreciated.
I need a little help, ive done an animation with your vcam, but when it exports it dosent work, have i missed something? please answer quickly
i´ve got the same problem...
Same here
davy joe i found the solution, you have to use the same frame size as jazza does in his animations
I think it has to do with the exporting. Use a program to convert the file into swivel.
Me too. Guys how to solve the problem?
I think somebody already posted this, and I think I would have to agree. Do all the animating in Adobe Flash, and do all the camera work in Sony Vegas.
thanks man. one of the best flash tutorial i've ever seen!
thank you so much, you are so professional and you made it as clear as possible
Thank you Jazza for such an amazing tutorial ❣️
Hi Jazza! You're videos are really great and very helpful. I'm a fan! :)
welcome to draw with jazza, i am jazza.
I've been hoping for one of these! Thanks a ton Jazza, you're the best.
You are GREAT, MAN! Thanks!
Jazza you are so inspiring
+Draw with Jazza
Is there a VCAM that works for Macromedia Flash 8?
EternityShack I have the same question here but I think there is, I'll link it if I find one
download the file and use the AS2 version.
The VCam was made in Flash CS3, a higher version on Flash 8.
I think vcam only has the function of displaying large or small stage images, but when using it, it really affects the program I have set up.
Jazza you are amazing! Thanks :)
I would've loved to see an actual rendered preview of the animation to better visualize what effect the v-cam has
you have one of my favorite utube channels! I appreciate you so much, i almost get a tear in my eye, and i am a 15 year old never-afraid motocross and supermoto rider from ice-cold-viking-Norway!! (i am not braggin', i never do, EVER!) keep them tutorials coming, and please never stop reading and answering comments!!!!! love ya (no gay)!! Now go make new episodes of Larry!
THANKS SO MUCH JAZZA!
Wow! What an amazing giveaway with the Larry scene!! Thank you so much!!
+TheIanimate4fun Or actually.... Your file just needs to be 800x450.... my bad. you just export it as 720p afterwards x3
Yeah this is for adobe flash professional and macromedia flash is a little different i believe...
thanks a lot! I was struggling so much with my animation!!!
You should make game tutorials aswell just like simple puzzle games with cutscenes and stuff
it would properly help to explain that its not rly useful for frame by frame animation (some might find a good use for it tho..) but its almost alpha and omega for "tween" animation. just my 2 cents
awesome thanks man
Hi Jazza! I'm interested in how did you make your character from all these angles at 9:39. Did you draw it frame by frame or you used some 3D software to do so? It might be a dumb question, but I'm really looking forward to an answer.
Your the best jazza, your videos are so helpful. You should give a tutorial on matrix effect.

Damn i caNt be the only one who wants tho see the whole animation now :/ It looks so cool!
Wtf VCAM should be so simple to use but for some reason it is broken as fuck when I use it. I use CS6 with AS3 for some reason it acts really weird.
MakeShiftHero try AS2
VCam is meant for AS2, in AS3 things have changed and new tech is required to use the zoom
Its been nine years since you have posted this video, just want to let you know :)
Jazza, keep up the good work c: ; I appreciate these videos.
Thanks Jazza! You've helped me out loads :D
turns out the vcam zooming in a little too far. I put it on my project (zoomed out) and then tried to zoom in, when I do ctrl+enter it cuts off about half of the screen, and then upon zooming in, still cuts off about half the screen?

+XxLunawarriorxX Same here did you find a answer?
+CaptainVinceO2 sadly, no. But someone told me it should work with actionscript 2 :0 I guess AS3 will never work for me
+XxLunawarriorxX miraculously I made it work somehow. I tried editing the VCAM dimensions separately and then editied the live one.
SAME PROBLEM. Were you able to find a fix?
Hadi Hafeez i was :0 i used action script 2 instead of 3 and it worked
I love you Jazza!
Another weird problem here. Setting Flash to any publishing profile that's not the default will bring up compile errors. Editing the default profile each and every time is an inconvenient workaround, but it's a temporary solution until someone comes up with something more permanent.
this is awesome!! thanks thank you thank you!
Does the Vcam not work for Flash CC? I have used it in CS6 and it works fine. Now I have moved to using Flash CC the camera frame appears in the movie export and does not operate as a camera. This happens even with the action script 3 version vcam. Please any ideas?
i have a question: When i tried to export it-the complete animation, i saved it in avi, because it is the only file format that editing programs recignizes, but the camera didnt work. The only file format that worked with the camera was swf. But this format is invisible for both editing programs and youtube uploading. So my question is: In which file format do you export ur animations?
+domcastyle Loler im having this problem too xc
WarriorCatsFanArt :D My friend told me that u have to export it in Quicktime, but it was black.....
i could try that anyways i guess, why not cx thanks
WarriorCatsFanArt sure xD
Box Head yes, i do
Very much like this tutorial. It's shows a lot :)
a million thanks
Thank you!
