Love my Esties, yes I have several, so comfortable to write with and so very pretty to look at. My only gripe is the nib logo, to me the older design looked more elegant and suited the grace of this beautiful model from Esterbrook, whereas the ‘X’ logo feels like it cheapens it. Either way Esterbrook, please keep them coming. 💖 Thanks Drew for covering this one 👏.
Not history But in my lifetime 60 years ago Esterbrook and Osmiroid had a series of 25 exchangeable nibs From extra fine manifest nibs to oblique italics A superb range of nibs
not long after the Raven they released the the piston filler Raven in secret, seemingly embarrassed of it. Ever since I'm on the lookout for the flashier resins to drop to no avail. The raven is the raven and the white too is just ok, except for the button hardware, it is plated the same as the clip and the bands and is stunning (opposed to the allblack raven). Important to note, that Esterbrook did not had to upsize the pen to fit the ink filling system, huge W (the piston filler pen is a couple of mm-s longer and slightly wider than the vanilla, but defo not oversized like the Leonardos)
Thank you Goulet Pen Co/Drew for showcasing my favorite brand and model of fountain pen! Your showcase video explained just some of the reasons why I love the Estie so much and why I own 22 of them (for now). However, the main reason why I love Esterbrook SO much (esp THE Estie) is because my 1st fountain pen is my mom's very 1st pen from grade school which was back in 1952 and still in pristine condition - a pink SJ (demi) with a silver clip and lt pink accented "jewels" on the top of the cap and bottom of the pen🖋️❤️
I got a couple of Esties when they first came out, to use my Esterbrook 9048 and 9128 nibs; the Estie much better fit my hand than the Esterbrook J's. The Esties were just the ticket, for a while. Both broke at the same place, on the body just below the section threads, a few months after I got them. I have been using fountain pens since high school, getting my first one in 1964, and I have pens dating back to the mid-1920s to the present day; I'm not hard on pens. Nice idea, though.
Thanks Drew! Dang, there are so many interesting and beautiful pens to try, and I've only got two hands. And one of them is practically useless for writing or drawing.
On our quest for the ultimate, we must look at the fact that we love to write and want the best experience possible. I found my solution when I tried a needlepoint custom nib by Kirk Spear at Pen Realm. My search for perfection ended right there.
I recently bought a Scarlet Estie with the Custom Journaler nib. The pen is gorgeous (the resistance when recapping feels a little odd at first) However, I haven't really got used to the nib yet, I've only ever used standard nibs and my handwriting doesn't seem to look as nice as usual. I wonder what I could do to make my writing look better? Ironically though I adore my Sailors and Platinums, I write best with my inexpensive TWSBI Diamond (Iris, bought for the colour! If they eventually bring the Diamond out in the new Kyanite, I'll be on it immediately!)
The ‘reborn’ Esties today are excellent made. The build quality, fit & finish, comfort in hand are all good. But definitely rather overpriced, still. I have three oversized Esties (Ebony, Scarlet, Sunflower) with the Journaler, Scribe and Needlepoint nibs, respectively. And a spare Techo nib, too. I still think the Estie is really only worth buying with any of the special nib grinds offered. A generic, samey-samey bland Jowo nib just doesn’t cut it (for me) at the prices the pens sell for. Of course, the premium surcharge for a special nib unfairly makes the price even steeper. Esterbrook ought to at least include the MV adapter free of charge. I also love the Esterbrook Camden. Overlooked, but just as good as the Estie.

Agreed - the X on the nib is the reason they don’t look attractive to me 😅
I now own 3 esties and I love them. One is permanently fitted with the MV adapter with a vintage flex nib. Thanks for the great video!
Not history
But in my lifetime

Thanks for breakdown of the nibs! Of course I can see some of the differences on the nib nook, but the explanation was super helpful.
Man I love this channel
This is Faaaaaaaaabulous!!!!!!
Have 6 Esties here, and bought my 2 journalers from you guys! ✨ Gena’s is my absolute favorite!
Wow! That's a solid collection! - Drew
I have overlooked the Esterbrook line. Thank you Drew for the video. You have piqued my interest.
Glad to hear it! - Drew
I must say with love and respect that your shirt reminds me of a celluloid fountain pen. ❤
Drew, this is why I tune into your podcasts. A piston-filling Estie? Who knew (besides you)?

Thanks so much for passing along the kind words! - Drew
My favorite is the Honeycomb/Gold Estie. It reminds me of Amber resin.
I own 4.. all EF.. I do love a custom ground nib though. SIG and CI mostly.
I have a Botanical Garden, and it's such a beautiful pen! I would totally be down if this channel did more nerdy deep dives into history, though.

IT WOULD BE GREAT HAVING THE OPTION OF THE RAVEN WITH AN EF/F FLEX.
My Techo Estie is my favorite pen.
The journaler nib is my absolute favorite nib.
That's a great one! - Drew
Drew Drew Drew! You constantly find ways to have me part with my money.
Oh no! ;) - Drew
i'm saving up to grab an estie at the commonwealth pen show in boston but i can't decide which one i want!
Thanks Drew! Dang, there are so many interesting and beautiful pens to try, and I've only got two hands. And one of them is practically useless for writing or drawing.
Love my punch pink Estie! I wish they’d resurrect the Montana sapphire color though, it was Diamondcast like Sweet Dreams and absolutely stunning.
Love the nibs but I do have a question: What is the difference between the Sailor Naginata Togi nib and their Zoom nib?

The Raven is the ultimate Estie IMHO

Still so sad I missed out on getting the petrified wood one! Couldn’t save up in time! 😞
I want their journaler nib i wanna try it arghhh
Aaaaaand another pen goes onto my Goulet Pens wishlist...
Esterbrook clearly is a company who cares about the history, and also their customers.
