What I really like about Elon is that him and his engineers are solving problems not by being disruptive but by creating technologies that people want to have. For example, he is addressing climate change not by trying to push people away from using fossil fuels but by creating one of the most desirable car companies in the world and making people WANT to change.

I actually disagree that a carbon tax is necessary. We didn't need a carbon tax to go from a CRT to a flat screen. What Tesla has already shown us is that they created one of, if not the most desired cars on the planet.. not because it's electric.. but because it's fantastic. As expensive as they were, that didn't stop people from buying them, not because they were different but because they were better. That mass adoption caused the price to crash and the quality and effectiveness to get better and better due to competition. Exactly what we are seeing now. Do you think any of these idiots would be talking about releasing electric vehicles that actually work if Tesla hadn't made them look like idiots? So forget about those aspects? No.. I'm actually counting on them. Also, understand that if we saw global adoption in 12-15 years.. that would be ASTOUNDING! I personally don't think it's going to be quite that fast.. but close. Carbon tax would go a long way to make the transition faster for e.g. the energy sector, since power plants aren't a consumer product, so the general populace can't just vote with their wallet like they do with cars. This also partially applies to most actual consumer goods that don't produce any pollutants themselves (unlike their manufacturing processes), so their environmental impact isn't directly noticeable and doesn't resonate as much; this results in the wealthy industries who enjoy the carbon-heavy profits having much greater pull and not being in a hurry to spend these profits on changing the processes to be more environmentally-friendly (especially in countries such as China or Russia where public opinion doesn't matter all that much). Needless to say, instating carbon tax is also far more fair to the general populace itself since they comprise the bulk of entities who get to experience the broadest range of disadvantages from pollution and climate changes. In a sense this argument is akin to "instead of penalizing my neighbor for shitting on my lawn, why not make a great public toilet?", to which the answer is "it doesn't make sense that your neighbor's responsibility for shitting where he shouldn't somehow ends up on someone else's shoulders".

The reason I made that comment about it is that some of us are sensitive to framerate lag, and choppy videos actually cause some nausea, as it messes with our eyes and brains. Usually happens to those of us who are in / come from the gamer community. It's also why shitty games with low framerate on computers or VR headsets cause nausea.
So I disagree that it's petty, especially if someone is wanting to attract viewers & shares of a video centered around providing electricity to underdeveloped countries. While the message is the most important, the medium is ALSO important.

Carbon tax would go a long way to make the transition faster for e.g. the energy sector, since power plants aren't a consumer product, so the general populace can't just vote with their wallet like they do with cars. This also partially applies to most actual consumer goods that don't produce any pollutants themselves (unlike their manufacturing processes), so their environmental impact isn't directly noticeable and doesn't resonate as much; this results in the wealthy industries who enjoy the carbon-heavy profits having much greater pull and not being in a hurry to spend these profits on changing the processes to be more environmentally-friendly (especially in countries such as China or Russia where public opinion doesn't matter all that much). Needless to say, instating carbon tax is also far more fair to the general populace itself since they comprise the bulk of entities who get to experience the broadest range of disadvantages from pollution and climate changes. In a sense this argument is akin to "instead of penalizing my neighbor for shitting on my lawn, why not make a great public toilet?", to which the answer is "it doesn't make sense that your neighbor's responsibility for shitting where he shouldn't somehow ends up on someone else's shoulders".
