    If its anything like the D3/D4, you can get into extended mode by shoving a block under one of the diffs when its in off road height - then try and lower it to standard and the car should spot its not lowering and should provoke the it to go into extended mode AND from there you can get it in super-extended by pushing / holding the raise button

    You have to update your wade sensing subscription. Land Rover allows you a few free trials of wade sensing and then you need to purchase a WS plan. £10/mth is the basic plan. Just update your credit card detail in the info screen and it will debit your card automatically. Same same for using the radio!

    The air intakes are not the concern, its the level where the vulnerable electrical systems start. Mainly the steering pump and starter. This is based off the current gen RRS though, but I don't see that changing much with the new defender. But i could be wrong of course.
    Also extended mode needs to manually engaged when the truck tells you too via the dash. Once its there you can increase it more by holding the brake and holding the UP on the suspension

      A dealer told me that the wading depth was just below the point at which the Defender would start to float away - so going deeper and you risk the car floating - rather than anything else.

    • @DrivenHard
      @DrivenHard 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnwillett4086 I've gone deeper then what is said is the max depth, there was definitely no floating away. Its the same type of situation as why they don't say the max sideways tilt on these, there are other factors will come into play so its hard to give a 100% answer

    My understanding is that it goes into extended mode when it senses that the suspension has been unloaded, with the idea being that that would typically happen because the chassis is being supported by an obstacle. I've heard you can trick it with a jack.

    • @gordonwedman3179
      @gordonwedman3179 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Land Rover says the snorkel does not increase wading depth so they don't need a seal . The snorkel is supposed to be more of a clean air intake. Not sure about dust getting in there though.

    • @alanhassall
      @alanhassall 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gordonwedman3179 Kind of my point. No seal and the air intake is on the side of the fender. As long as the intake is not too small or clogged, it is doubtful that dust will be sucked in around the tube.

    Sometimes the radio does take a minute or so to load after a cold early morning start. It appears to need to reload the broadcast signals and that takes a few moments before then returning exactly as it was. There is no real pattern as it is random but when it happens, it is early in the day. No proven idea why though.🧐 Maybe Mr Skywalker can reset something regarding Wade sensing...does it work better if you test the function with a bucket of water??? Good luck Simon! 😃😃😃

    Seems everything is now Defender 2020 related, but very few of us have one. A lot of experts believe there will be a huge resurgence of interest for 2000-2009 models. That said, there is also a growing interest in the U.S. for extended range gas tanks. New Ford trucks now offer (nearly) 40-gallon fuel tanks as a factor-option. This might be something to look into for the Range Rover Sport 2005-2009, especially the 2009. I for one would be interested in an extended-range fuel tank for the 2009 RRS, as gas stations are slowly disappearing.

      @Defender3d 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crazygooseventures Not sure how you'd like me to respond to your question, but . . . you cannot distinguish between a sensor being completely blocked, and something that should be detected. In this case the message could read "check sensors", perhaps, If you got mud on your screen, you'd expect to have to clean it off, no?

    • @crazygooseventures
      @crazygooseventures 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Defender3d my comment was more just a rhetorical statement BUT, i guess we need to take a step back and look at it another way.
      At what point did we (JLR) think that wading sensors are now a required piece of off-road kit? Logically walking through this, before wading sensors, the driver would get out and walk the route to ensure it was vehicle safe. This prevented the vehicle from getting unnecessarily damaged and it forced the driver to consider whether this crossing was worth the risk or not. With sensors you're relying on tech to do that job (but it's a reactionary system which means it only works once you've entered the water and can only give feedback on what's around you) unless as a driver you walk the route anyway which means the sensors really aren't needed. As a driver, you know already.
      But back to my original comment, going off-road implies you're going to get dirty at some point so sensors like this really make them useful only in optimal conditions which is counter to "off-roading".

    • @Defender3d
      @Defender3d 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crazygooseventures I really don't care Alan. I was just pointing out what happened with me, not entering into a debate about why the car has the sensors it has. Birmabright is what most land rover bodies were originally made from, series 1’s to series 3’s, Birmabright is a Magnesium/ Aluminium alloy. Modern defenders bodies aren’t Birmabright as this was a trade name of a specific company that went bust, but they are still made from a similar alloy. I assume the new defender is made from a similar product.

    7:00 On the Disco (I've got a D4), if you press and hold the 'up' on the suspension after it's at off-road height, for around 7 or 8 seconds, it'll raise up a little more...?
    I've been off-roading and got a little beached, the car somehow sensed it and raised it up a little more, which helped and got out. I watched a TH-cam vid of someone putting a block of wood under their D3 and lower the car on to it, the car lifted back up and went in to extended mode too. Could it be looking at the loads on the suspension and figures it could be stuck?

    Is the Plate you put on the passenger side rear near where the ladder was, is that so you can swap the lunch box over? because that is what I need. Land Rover states the lunch box is on the drivers side because that side is stronger for the door so will help with the weight in the box what Bull the box only carries 17kg the ladder can carry 150kg so that theory is wrong. I would prefer the lunch box on the Passenger side.

    • @L663
      @L663  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is the maddest theory i have every heard. The only thing i can see is that the drivers side has 3 bolts holes in the waist rail - the passenger side only has 2. So I think this means that the passenger side is better suited to NARROW items and the Drivers side better suited to WIDER items. We are planning on making a plate for both sides so you can take your pick. We have designed mounts for side carriers / fuel can / work lamps etc. The plate will be made from powder coated aluminium.
