Brandon here back with another new 2 minute tuesday!
In todays video we are taking a look at Fields. Specifically, how to automate our text using fields to save time and prevent us from forgetting to update a piece of text.
In the video I show you how fields work, how to insert or create fields, as well as 4 different way I use fields to save time, including creating a plot stamp from scratch!
If you want to keep up to date with new videos, be sure to subscribe to the channel and check out my blog, cadintentions.com.
Oh and let me know what autocad tip, trick or tutorial you'd like to see in the next one down below!
Cheers and thanks for watching

I discovered "fields" a couple of years ago and have been using a couple pretty much every day. I learned something new from this video that I have just implemented into my drawing template.
Thanks loads Brandon.
Hi. Thanks. I didn't know we have these types of automated functions in AUTOCAD. I saw a few of your videos and have subscribed to your channel. These are really helpful.
I typically put the plot information vertical along the binding edge so it is nondescript for most people viewing the document. Most people don't need to see the information. So on a 24x36 Landscape oriented sheet it would be bottom left corner and vertical on the edge. I'm surprised you didn't mention that there is a "Plot Stamp" check box feature in the "Plot" window (Ctrl P) under the "Plot Options" heading. When checked, the "Plot Stamp Settings" button appears.
Your way of doing it is more flexible in location and options.
very nicely explained. tnx
Great help!
Amazing tutorial!
Great video!
Thank you very much, too useful for me
Hi! Thanks for your video. Could you explain me how to add a revision number field in my Titleblock? Thanks
Thank you very much 🥰.
I have not been in Autocad for a couple of decades, so much. Thanks this is very helpful.
Not a problem, thanks for watching and the comment!
A good set of videos, highlighting useful tips, great for me (a self taught AutoCADite). Thank you
Thanks!
Glad you like them and thank you for watching/commenting!
THANK FOR DOING THESE 2 MINUTE TUESDAY'S.
Not a problem, thanks for watching!
Best vids in the Biz!
Thanks!
Nice, Thanks.
Thanks and love you brooo..
Brandon. I use fields on every drawing much like you do. Question: If you create a plot stamp but don't want it to show up when you send a pdf to a client, what method would you recommend?
PS I've signed up for the course. What do I do now?
you can put it on a layer that doesnt print, or just put it on defpoint layer.
thanks
Brandon I've been using fields in my title blocks, however the date field does not refresh with a regen? Has this ever happened to you?
Also, do you have any tips on editing multiple fields of layouts at once?
As always thank you for the vids
dates have to be manually updated by UPDATEFIELD
Is there anyways to make the fields text Caps?
Hi Brandon, is there a way where I could link texts from excel to AutoCAD using Fields? I'm trying to make an electrical loop drawing where I have to individually edit the text per cable and terminal block. It would be wonderful if I could just edit all the text on Excel. Thank you.
let me know if you figured this out @nick-o
Yeah let me know too
Xref maybe?
Hi, great channel I would like the field value without the grey background...is it possible?
ok sorted FIELDDISPLAY set to 0
Is there a field that can use to copy the name of the project, revision etc. from Cover page to the rest of the pages without going page bypage to change manually
blocks will work in this scenario.
Whenever using a position field, the thousands separator option is greyed out. Is there any reason you can think of why I can't set the thousands separator on my fields??
Hi...is there any way to remove the gray background from the texts where we used fields?
Hi Flavius,
Off the top of my head I'm not sure, I feel like you should be able to change up the colors somewhere in the settings, but the grey background behind fields don't plot so it shouldn't be a problem for your actual drawings or pdfs, but if it's a personal preference it may be doable in the setting somewhere, I would have to look a little closer.
Sir how to create door Windows numbers automatically calculate
Main problem I have is that there is no way to do this once and only once.... your have to go thru that process for every instance... and who has time 4 that? (0.50 - 6.00)
Hello, I've been trying to place a Title field, but not matter what i do it just wont update. Even using the UPDATEFIELD command but nothing, it just stays like this - - - -
BUT HOW TO AUTOMATE THE LAYOUT NUMBER IT SELF
I didnt find how to set automatic sheet number , anyone here?
Underused function. I've tried showing a few peers this but they can't seem to see or wrap thier heads around the usefulness potential for it.
Totally! Im always in the same position, trying to show how helpful fields can be for automating basic things
