  • Ever had a tire pop off the rim? It’s an easy fix that you can do yourself for free with stuff you have around the shop or garage. And I’m not talking about ether or CO2! I’ll show you the easy and safe way to re-seat a tire bead.

Fixed… thank you so much for this video very very helpful… everything you said worked…

Just found your video today because my snow thrower had a flat tire and wouldn't take air--clearly the bead was broken. I put a ratchet strap around it, similar to what you did, cranked down a little on it and turned on the air compressor. I had to put a little of my own body weight on it because it's such a small tire but it worked! Saved me time for sure, now I'm ready for any possible snow this winter. This was a great find. :-)

Great video and definitely safer than the "other" method. I had to do this on my lawn tractor and used a double loop of 550 paracord with a 1" dowel to tighten the cord. Worked perfectly after using a rubber mallet to get the sidewall as close to seated as possible. Thanks for sharing!

This worked amazingly for my rear-tine rototiller! Used a thicker ratchet strap instead of a chain. Hat to rotate it and thump it with my fist a few times and bam! Took air and worked perfectly. Thank you very much. I live in the country as well and I would definitely put this toward the top of my list of things to know out here.

Wow, great idea and thanks for showing the troubles you had! I just lost a valve stem on a front tire; while I'll take it in to make sure there's no other damage to the tire this (and the 2" ratchet strap idea!) is _really_ great.
I'll also get a few extra valve stems to be prepared as I would hate to have a similar problem in the winter.
    Great video, great tip!

I have had good luck seating the bead by taking the valve core out and putting an air nozzle with a rubber tip on the air hose and give it a quick blast. That will seat the bead then put the valve core back in and inflate the tire. Don't need to chain or strap the tire.

I'll add that for a rear tire off a Kubota L45; it took two chains; one along each side 3-4" from the edge and I had to position one of the chain binders directly over an area that air was escaping to get a little more compression in that area.

today is "one day". just confirming what i've been doing the last hours wasn't for nill. back to the fight then! but just on a side note: you ever started one of those very old hand cranked tractors, then you know, you grip it with your thumb not over the handle so not to break it if there is a kick back, that way the crank can slip away out of your hand and not shatter it. that's how you have to take the chain off , for the same reason: your thumb clearly gripped it around. hope it helps brother

    Howdy F. Tyler!
I have done the chain and binder trick as well when in a pinch. Much safer way is with a good 2" ratchet strap. You can release it easily without the momentum of the binder handle risk. Releasing the strap still makes a good pop and makes me jump. On smaller soft tires (e.g.: lawn tractor, ATV) you can get away with using smaller 1" straps. The 2" straps don't work well on small diameter tires.

There are several more tricks I can describe for you. Is it a small front or larger rear tire? What type of air source are you using to inflate the tire?
      1) The biggest catch is fast air volume is needed.
2). Jack up the tractor so that there is no weight on tire, or remove tire and wheel so that you can place them flat on concrete, sheet of plywood or some cardboard etc.. If flat on dirt, these tricks can get you dirty quick.
3). If your compressor has a 1/4 turn ball valve (shut off handle with a 90 degree operating range) on the discharge hose:
3a) Remove valve core from wheel.
3b) attach as short of a hose as possible (4 to 6 foot of 1/2" hose for larger tires, 3/8 may work on small tire) to air compressor discharge valve and put it directly over the valve stem. You can secure it with a small hose clamp if needed. (No quick couplers or fittings that will cause restrictions to slow down the blast of air into the tire.)
3c) Charge up the compressor and then open valve to inflate tire. Be ready to close valve as soon as the tire pops up on the bead of the rim.
3d). Remove the hose, and reinstall the valve stem core asap

    • @gregorycross612
      @gregorycross612 4 ปีที่แล้ว

trick # 3: Portable volume chamber (accumulator).
If you have an old portable air tank that has factory valve body and Schrader valve stem for filling that are worn out:
      1) Remove entire valve assembly.
      2) Get a 1/2" NPT pipe T and add 3 short nipples.
      3) On the run (arms) of the T add 1/2" NPT ball valves.
      4) Add bushing and adapter to match your compressors quick coupling style to one valve.
      5) install short run of 1/2" air hose to the other valve using hose barb and hose clamps.
**6). For safety** you can use a 4-way cross or add another T between the valves and re-use the pop-off valve and pressure gauge from the original tank manifold.
      7) Remove valve stem core and secure loose hose end over the valve stem with hose clamp.
      8) Charge tank (Do not exceed original tank specifications!)
      9) Close supply/fill valve and prepare compressor hose with your air chuck.
**You can also use this at the end of a long hose to get maximum use of your impact tools.**
