      Yes but there are also other ways of obtaining energy such as fat base dieting. For things such as working out you need a lot if protein and not as much carbs which leads you to needing a protein bar, it's not a protein bar if it has more of anything than protein. You wouldn't buy a dark chocolate bar if it's 80% milk would you? No you wouldn't because then that'll just be a milk chocolate bar. Exactly, if you’re trying to get protein in get a high protein low carb bar. The cliff bars for example are an energy bar not a protein bar like they put on packaging. It’s meant for intensity training before your workout.
    Protein bars with 20+ grams of protein and let’s say 4g of carbs minimal fats are great for post workout recovery or just as a quick option if you need to get your protein in
    Energy bars like cliffs and the kind bars things like that is to maintain energy. So if you’re hiking or going on a long jog you’d definitely prefer to have a cliff bar for the carbs to boost your energy

    Imo the best way to look at "protein" bars is that its just a snack/energy refill that has a healthy balance of macronutrients. Most bars have between 25 & 40% of the calories filled with protein. If you want to make some serious gains you normally want to get like 25-30% of your calorie intake from protein.
    A protein bar is decent addition to your diet, but it's not going to compensate for a carb/fatty meal you ate earlier that day.

    This is needlessly complex. Just look at the protein to calorie ratio. Usually the highest protein you can usually find is 1g per 10 calories (10g protein per 100 cal, or 20g for a 200cal bar)
    If you just look at "which is the highest nutrient" you'll end up getting bars that have high protein, carbs, and fat and you could end up getting a 1g per 40cal ratio instead. (12 gram protein, 350+ calories. )
    For those who are curious protein is 4cal per gram, carbs are also 4cal per gram, fats are 9cal per gram, and alcohol is 7cal per gram.

    Cliff bar was at least not originally meant to be a protein bar. It's the breakfast bar equivalent to a swimmer eating 5,000 calories in carbs from pasta. It's designed to give you energy that you are going to burn off. If you aren't going to burn it off don't eat it.

    Saturated fat, found mainly in meat and dairy foods, contributes to clogged arteries and cardiovascular disease. But monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, found in plants and healthful oils, actually protect your health by improving your cholesterol profile. Fat has little direct effect on blood sugar levels.

    There's nothing wrong with eating a high protein "carb bar" as long as the calories fit your calorie budget, there is enough protein to make it worthwhile (at least 15g come on, bro), and if you eat it as a part of your pre-workout meal. About 30-60 minutes before working out.
    Also, fat is actually really healthy for you, but it's best to get it from whole food sources. The whole "avoid fat" mindset is in an effort to keep calories intake low. But again, set up your meals every day so they are as close to your daily calorie budget as possible. MyFitnessPal comes super in handy for this.

    Yo but those Clif carb bars are phenominal for a pre-cardio snack. If you plan in doin sime intense cardio, absolutely destroy a clif bar before you get that cardio on, you got yourself some sustained energy brah. Bonus points if you grab White Chocolate Macadamia nut or Peanut Butter Clif bars.

  • @Bizeecentral
    @Bizeecentral ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well, it kinda depends. Sometimes you dont need a lot of protein from a protein bar. If you just worked out and depending on your demographic you may want more. What i’d look out for is fat content sure because it might slow down digestion post workout when you may not want that. If its not post workout, fat content doesn’t matter too much if you ask me. It adds significant calories though so that may factor in though. If your watching them may consider that but if trying to gain weight, thats a good things. Another thing to look out for is ingredients and the QUALITY/TYPE of protein. Some forms of protein are inferior to others. Go for collagen/whey/egg/pea/hemp/gelatin protein. Go for anything but soy protein please xD But also some forms of protein aren’t as bioavailable and only a small percentage of them might be used for the muscle. Eggs are top grade source of protein for this purpose, fish as well. Casein kinda ranks a bit lower in that regard. Whey is decent, collagen/gelatin should be top of the line as they are literally used for the musculoskeletal system.
    But again also look at ingredients. They should be simple. No soy based emulsifiers, no terrible oils like canola, soy, cottonseed, safflower. I’d only wanna see olive, avocado, coconut, or red palm oil, and there may be few other i’m forgetting. Sesame oil is good too but you probably wont see that in a bar.

    There are 4 calories per 1g of protein. This means the highest quality protein bars would contain a 4:1 ratio of calories to protein. The closer to this ratio, the better the quality of the protein. 25g of protein should be close to 100 calories, while additional calories are the contribution of sugars and fats (both contain 9 calories per 1g). It doesn't mean you're a failure as a person if your bar contains more, it's just some low calorie food for thought to consider.
