As a Brit, I had the upmost pleasure of visiting California and I stayed in a family home in San Jose. I got to see San Francisco and loved going to the Bay Area and looking at the sea lions basking in the sun. I loved the trip to Alcatraz. I was completely in love with the state, the food and the hospitality of everyone I came in contact with. I didn’t actually recognise much in this video but, obviously it’s a big place and my trip was back in 1986. 86 was a great time to be in the Bay Area! I’ve been in San Jose my whole life, if you came back now you wouldn’t recognize it! San Francisco has gone to hell & San Jose is on its way there. It’s very sad situation here yet we pay so much to live here for great weather & a 20 minute drive to the beach.
@@BigMamaKab it’s a great shame and also to hear how it’s changed so much. I’m glad to hold onto the memories. We have the same problems over here we just don’t get the sunshine. 🫣☺️
Glad you enjoyed san jose where I was born in 1961. It's still a wonderful place though when growing up I had cherry apricot, and plumb orchards all around and open fields where I could play with the neighborhood kids. It was a wonderful time as a child. Though most all orchards and fields are gone I still live by the rolling foot hills and their beautiful oak trees. This will always be my home.
@@ladonna2u742 No it doesn't. Are you even from San Jose? Been living here for decades and gangs are not a big problem at all. You rarely if ever hear about gang-related issues, and I live right next to ESSJ.
I spent the 70's as a teenager living on the eastside of San Jose. The house we lived in was a small 1600 square foot 4 bedroom house that my Mom and Dad paid $45k for in 1971 and sold in 1979 for 75k. This was before the Silicon Valley boom. I looked on Zillow and it says it is now 1 million 300 thousand! I had driven by it about 4 years ago and it did not even look well cared for at the time. Crazy!! Love your Videos!
He really does a great job not only videoing but his commentary is great he has a laid back kinda attitude and I love the stats. I can’t get that from others I have watched.
I have an internet friend who lived in San Jose for many years. A modest but lovely house...he shared pics of it, and his wife had a garden there. They wanted out of California and moved to Ivans, Utah...near St George. I'm pretty sure they made a mint on the sale of their house, and the Utah home was much less expensive. Plus, he's far enough away from the light pollution that he can do his deep space stargazing in his backyard. Oh, and his wife loves hiking in the rugged wilderness nearby.
Yes only those of us who have lived here for the last seventy years or so can survive. We sold my mom home 2 and a half years ago and being single I'm living very well. But for a new family it would be very hard.
That's all for San Jose???? You missed so much! The Tech museum! Egyptian museum! Many nice parks! Santana Row across the street from Winchester house. SJSU! Shark Tank! History San Jose park, Happy Hollow Zoo! County natural parks, and MROSD. One of the major draws to live here. FYI for decades that restaurant WAS a pizza place with theater pipe organ Angies). Then a breakfast place. Nice of you to visit, stay longer and see more!
In 1977, I stopped in San Jose on a Greyhound bus as a young student. The city was still a dusty quiet town dedicated to farming. I know people who were born in San Jose in the 1940s who remember it as rural orange groves.
I grow up in the 60s and we still had cherry, apricot and plumb orchards all around my parents house. Then in the early 70s it all started to disappear for highways and more homes. I still live by the beautiful foothills and drive thru them because their minutes away from where I live.
Welcome to my city! I’ve lived here 53 years which is the only reason I can afford to live here. My house was purchased for $42k in 1970. Now, house prices and rent prices are CRAZY high. I love the weather and the wide variety of places to eat, things to see and do, etc. Enjoy your stay!
Yeah agree and I'm 62, born and raised by the foothills which I love. My parents house was 16 thousand when they bought it in 1966 and we were there until about 2 and a half years ago because of my mom's passing. But because of old Friends of my parents I'm able to live just about 4 miles away from my original home because the grandson live in my parents Friends house which they never sold. They built a brand new studio behind the house and I rent it for cheap! I love San jose!
Homes and rent everywhere have gone through the roof-no pun intended! A beautiful city! Can anyone that lives in San Jose explain why the crime is high?
@@sandyg202As a previous reply said, not enough police vs the size of the city. San Jose is huge. The parts in this video are a very small portion in nicer areas. We have quite a large homeless population as well but they are run out of the downtown area. Like any city we have our fair share of gang and drug activities that make up most of our stats.
You do an absolutely amazing job showing your viewers the sights of wherever you are visiting. Your voice is also very calming, you give a lot of information & make your channel the best we have viewed so far. My husband and I can watch the same video over & over, we never get tired of it as there's information we missed the 1st. Nicole should have an exercise channel as it is obvious she has kept her body shape up over the years & exercises daily. I would give you a 10/10 for your channel.
I’m from there and now live in Los Angeles. My entire family is still there. I’m 32 now. When your in your teens and early 20’s you will call it boring. But when your ready to settle down it’s heaven. Peaceful and sweet people, kind people everywhere you go. I feel very lucky to be from such a peaceful place. Especially westside San Jose where I’m from. I miss the simplicity and peacefulness of my town.
if you live near university and people with education, it alay nicer and more polite. Even if they dont like you, they keep to themself or get away from you. because they learn to follow rule and order, spend years at university try to solve the problem not thinking about the numbers and bank balance.
Are you nuts?! I was born and raised there and my family was smart enough to get out! It is NOT peaceful, there's tons of crime, it's way too expensive, too many damn kids speeding up and down the streets, too much crime and the people that live there all share one house! I grew up on 11th street so I know! San Jose is not all it's cracked up to be. It's now how it used to be in the 80's. I remember the only good thing about it was the 1989 earthquake. 🙂
You captured my thoughts. When I was a kid growing up in SJ, I hated it for how "boring" it was. But when I grew up and moved to the city with all its chaos and crime, I appreciated SJ. When you are in your mid-life with a family, you don't want chaos and excitingment.
My brother and his wife lived in San Jose for many years, she was a Human Resource Officer in the Tech Industry. I ended up through various circumstances living outside of Santa Cruz for five years in the Redwood Forest. There is no cheap place to live in that part of the country, but I lasted five years, spent much time in San Jose. Best time in my life.
San Jose is a big city at least a million in population. However when you look at cities like Portland Seattle or Houston,San Jose is pretty small and very insignificant looking.
@@Urbanhandyman yeah that’s what I’m saying but when you compare the cities San Jose looks small. And yes I know it’s because of the airport is right next to downtown.
Moved to San Jose in October 1973, and in April 1974, bought our 3-bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms house for 24K. Great place to live. The housing area you´re showing was a Portuguese neighborhood in the 70s.
You found your way to San Jose (cue Dionne Warwick). My husband & I both moved here from Oakland to attend San Jose State University in 1977. We were determined to move back to the east bay after graduation because back then SJ was still mostly an agricultural city. The Silicon Valley boom was just started to take off. We found it too rural & too slow. ( Wish you would have shown a little of SJSU on your tour.) We married our sophomore year, started a family in 1984 and bought our home in South San Jose in 1992 for $207k. The homes in our mostly nice middle class neighborhood are now selling for 1.2-1.5 million. We are flabbergasted at how much property prices have increased. We thought we’d only stay until we graduated but found it a great place to raise a family. With two incomes, it was possible to stay. Our daughters no longer live in the Bay Area but my husband & I have never lived anywhere else. The weather is the best in the country, the diversity, location to the ocean, mountains and the Sierras plus the Napa Valley wine country can’t be beat. However, if we were starting out today, we could never afford it. My husband wants to sell & move somewhere cheaper but we have prime real estate that many people would die to have. We live near open park spaces perfect for outdoor activities, libraries & community centers with good public transportation. I can walk to most of these places. We’re only an hour from both Oakland or San Francisco. The one drawback is the disparity in the wealth gap which has created a huge homeless population. Surprised you did come across this in your video. Thank you for showcasing our beautiful city. If/when you return, please don’t forget SJSU & our prized shopping area, the beautiful Santana Row.
This weeks video presents us with this interesting paradox, Money is required to live in San Jose - but having wealth doesn't mean you will be free. San Jose is a very beautiful city and the Winchester Mystery House is very quirky. Mrs. Winchester employed a staff of carpenters who did all the work on the house throughout her life. She believed that the ghosts of those killed by Winchester rifles were after her and so she turned her house into a maze to confuse them so they couldn't find her. You would think that having unlimited wealth would be liberating. But here this woman was trapped in her house by the source of her money. And you need money to live in San Jose! But money can be a source of entrapment like in Mrs. Winchester's case. Joe knocks it out of the park once again. Another beautiful video.
I particularly enjoy Joe’s architectural commentary. Most of which I’m in total agreement with. I love old buildings, but I also found City Hall to be interesting. And OMG, some of the most beautiful houses I’ve seen.
Oh that's nothing. Joe didn't drive through the Rose-Garden district, or Naglee Park. Both are right off from downtown. Stunning homes, compared to what the video shows.
I’ve enjoyed you travels the past years, and glad you came to San Jose. My wife and I have been long time residents there. We really needed 2 good paying incomes and diligent saving back in the 1990’s to scratch our way into a starter house, and we traded up a few years later. It’s extremely difficult to buy a detached single family home now…only very high earners can do it. We love the climate and diversity (great ethnic food everywhere!) and plan to retire here since our personal housing costs are not a big factor. 49’ers, Warriors, and Giants are all within an hour drive to see them live. Hills surround the valley with trees and trails for hiking. I know most folks are shaking their heads, feeling it’s not worth it, but for me it’s home and all is good.
I agree, I grow up there and remember all the fields and orchards that I would play in, that was back in the 60s. Sure there's been alot of change but it's still a great place and it's my home.
Wow pricey place in San Jose. Embassy suites is nice especially the old ones. Dinner looked delicious! The price 4 dinner not bad there was lamb and fish and beer involved so not bad! Ty 4 another vid! U guys stay safe out there.
Born and raised in San Jose and still live in the area in Morgan Hill which is the next town south of San Jose. My parents bought their home in the early 60's and my Mother still lives there. It was a wonderful place to have a childhood with the open spaces and orchards. Unfortunately, the orchards are all gone as well as the open space. I have been to the Winchester house only once about 20 years ago. They had flashlight tours on Friday the 13th and Halloween, not sure if they still do that. It is horribly expensive here and if I hadn't bought a place in the 90's, I would not be able to live here. Most folks that I am close to are leaving and moving to either Nevada or Idaho. It is a beautiful area, although there are horrible areas here, just like everywhere else. We are in close proximity to major sports teams as well as natural beauty such as the mountains and the beach.
I was raised about 125 miles south of SJ and as a kid we drove up to see family. In 1975 an uncle bought a ranch style three bed house on a lot for $35k. The fam thought he overpaid. Last year he sold the house for $1.15 million and moved to AZ. Back then there were fruit orchards everywhere.
this title is 100 correct, move to san jo in the end of 84 to 88, the best 4 years of my life, i love it, but when my hustling came to an end, i couldnt afford to stay there, salute to all my folks in the 408 forever
Yep that's where I grow in the 408 area and I still there. I'm 62 and hopefully I'll never have to leave here as long as I'm alive. My parents bought they're first house for 16 thousand and we sold it unfortunately because mom passed about 3 and a half years ago and we got over a million for it. I've been very fortunate and blessed because I'm still in the same area because friends built a new studio behind they're home and I rent it for cheap! Right by the rolling foothills!
My dad worked in San Jose in the mid-1960's, but we lived in Santa Clara and then Sunnyvale. Loved those cities, which were surrounded by apricot groves and strawberry fields back then. Loved what it was then. As a senior in high school, I cleaned house for a couple where the husband worked for what became Hewlet-Packard. That was at the very beginning of Silicon Valley's explosion. The area was friendly and beautiful back then, and not anywhere near as expensive!
I lived in San Jose as a child/teenager in the late 60s, early 70s. It was a nice middle class city and a great place to grow up. I do remember that back then downtown was sketchy.
If you come back to San Jose take a drive down Dry Creek Road, the houses there are beautiful! Also check out Willow Glen, they have some of the cutest houses around here.
My ex-husband's father was a City Planner for San Jose for many years, in the late 50s through 1980s. They lived in a nice, affordable middle class family neighborhood. In a modest 4 bedroom home. San Jose changed around the mid-90s. It got very crowded and not very nice, in my opinion. Housing prices were going up too. His parents moved out to Auburn to retire around 2000 and made a pretty penny on their home. I'm glad to see and hear that the city has cleaned up since the 90s. I love that the old architecture is being well cared for.
Well, you can afford it...if, like me you picked the right place to live 18 years ago. (I live in Willow Glen in a more-than decent older complex and pay about 60% of market rate). When I started with Pacific Bell I worked at 4 N. Second St, just a couple block from where you're walking around downtown. At 5:19, the storefront with the arches used to be La Taqueria, one of the best places ever to get burritos and quesadillas. And those hoops you're walking through are pretty neat to see when they're all lit up and changing colors at night. The Winchester House is pretty cool, even if the stories they used to tell about it were sort of made up. BUT....knowing that you're a fan of classic rock, and since you were driving in the neighborhood, I'm surprised you didn't do a drive-by of the house where the Doobie Brothers got their start. Anywho, I hope you enjoyed your stay in my 'hood. Happy trails!
Good to see you both, I was missing you and asking myself what had happened to your trips ? @JoeandNicsRoadTrip , I shared your channel with friends. I've watched so many episodes. I appreciate the stats too. I learned about my own city from your video. Safe travels to you and your wife. Blessings from California!
Born and raised in San Jose. My husband and I had to leave 18 years ago because the cost of living and housing was too expensive. It is sad when you can afford a home where you grew up. 😕
Perspective is crazy. I grew up in Colorado and got priced out and had to move. Through career progression, we ended up in San Jose until 6 months ago. Due to our wages in San Jose, we lived there comfortably but if we moved back to Colorado and our wages adjusted we couldn’t live there.
@standupbcounted2420 I think you know what I meant. Holy crap, thanks for pointing out my mistake, appreciated. Hope you never make a mistake yourself and get called out on it.
Thanks for pointing out how the suburbs of San Francisco San Jose and oakland are completely developed and populated without any space between. Effectively it’s all one metro area with SF as the core. Lack of usable land is what drives crazy property values. There’s just a narrow strip between the marsh and the hills where you can build
I was born in San jose hospital in 1961. The hospital no longer exists but i remember it well. I lived by the east foothills and could drive 3 minutes and be in those beautiful hills. We had cherry, apricot and plumb orchards all around. Though most of the orchards are gone i was very blessed and fortunate to grow up here. And whats amazing is that the city has kept its self up pretty good after all these years.
I grew up in Texas and had a successful career in California. Much more successful than I would have had in Texas. I'm now retired in Texas. So many Texans have a false, Fox News, impression of what California looks like. It is so far off. I would have stayed but I lived in a very expensive zip code and wanted to slow down due to health reasons. My neighborhood was very safe with fantastic views of the ocean and great restaurants. I have a friend with a Peruvian restaurant in San Fran. She said you really have to bring your A game in the food industry. The competition is stiff.
100% FACTS ... If you wanna be THE BEST OF THE BEST in your industry (almost any industry on the planet) you go try in California. SF and LA have their issues (in selective areas not ALL OF THEM) but overall the quality of life is incredibly high if you have family with roots there (already have property) or if you have a very high salary. Honestly had the best childhood imaginable growing-up in the Central Valley just East of the Bay Area. Feel BLESSED that my parents set-up their roots there 40+ years ago (and about 200-300 other family members) up and down the valley, in the Bay and in LA. It's been great. I will never leave. I've spent some time in other states/cities: NYC, Alabama, Florida, Boston, Michigan, DC .... NOTHING compares to a life in California (when you already have family and friends established there). I'm sure it'd be different if I were a transplant though.
The hardest transition for me coming from Texas in 84 was how unfriendly women were in CA compared to TX. Everything else was exciting.@@RandomRabbit007
Yeah the women can be a bit "bitey" at first but once they get to know you they're extremely adventerous, have good taste in music, almost tom-boyish with how good they can be hiking, boating, swimming, running, etc. But yeah I met a chick in Florida once and I was weirded out by how nice she was and she approached ME. I honestly thought she was trying to rob me hahaha. She was beautiful too (perfect ass).@@BirdDogey1
That's the problem. People like to stick to their "tribe" and view the world with a lens shaded by the Left or the Right. Most people are pretty decent, want to be respected and want to have a good time. You can find good in all places, and you can find bad too. Just depends what your intentions are.@@dont-want-no-wrench
Hi Joe & Nic, So glad to view your video presentation! I am a San Jose resident. You know some of San Jose things more than I do. Thank you again! Wish you enjoy the tour!
I've lived in the area since 1977 and have seen it explode from its tech roots. Yes, San Jose is not known for its aesthetics. It was never a destination town but it has never billed itself as such. Its downtown is not just becoming more vibrant since the pandemic but, in many places, is becoming hip and happening. I've worked in many of the buildings featured including City Hall, St. Joesph's, The Italian Bank building, and used to have a business meeting in the Winchester House weekly. You can't beat the weather here. San Jose isn't for everyone. It's challenging living in town but there are endless opportunities for bright, innovative, and self-motivated individuals. You can't just cruise through jobs here. Thanks for the video.
I forgot to mention that in the 60s and 70s I be at Ann Darling bowling 🎳 alley alot because most of my uncles and a few of my aunts bowled there. There was Alma bowl, Fiesta lanes, Clover leaf, 4th street bowl which is still there and many others which you obviously know about. To bad there's just a few old school alleys left. Some are like night clubs now to bring the kids in. Thanks for reminding me of all the great family memories.
The basilica is gorgeous !! Wow! Very nice city! Enjoyed the history of San Jose! The dome is cool too. I love Vintage Tower too! I would love to visit one day. Love the house tour! Great drone shot. The transformation of the Winchester House is incredible! Your food looked delicious. Look forward to more videos!
Another pretty place for a virtual tour. I hope you could also have a road trip video in Monterey (it's where my grandfather was buried) or Salinas. 💖🇵🇭
An awesome video, as always ! San Jose is a beautiful city, with a really nice relaxed atmosphere. Some gorgeous old buildings downtown, and I love the styles of homes in the residential area. The Winchester House looks amazing ! Thanks so much, Joe and Nic, I really enjoyed this !😊💚
Hi I've been there once. Long time ago. I was stationed in Alameda and transferred to Lemoore Good old F/A-18 squadron. went to three wars with them. Then retired to Hanford. Your food looked good and Nicky's didn't get a salad. Good seeing you and thanks for the ride along Cats don't have a lot of money to live there. 🐈
Thanks for the tour! I'm in my 60's and I've lived in the San Jose area most of my life. You're spot on about the housing becoming so expensive because of tech. The 90's were an exciting time in Silicon Valley. People became millionaires overnight. I still kick myself for not taking the job at that little search engine company! 😜
Another great video joe. I have a little experience around the San Diego area from being in the marines for many years. After retirement I drove long haul trucks mostly just to see the sights just couldn’t sit still if you know what I mean. But never very much in California. That’s how I feel in love with Texas. Expensive is right I’d say. It’s a place to visit but don’t live if you don’t have or make a lot of money. Wow those numbers just blows my mind how people make it. But with those big companies that are in the Silicon Valley I imagine they pay quite well. Clean city very nice beautiful buildings. And like you I have read and watched a few things on the Winchester house that’s something right there. Safe travels guys keep filming and I’ll keep watching
Thanks for the Cali visit. I was born in Oakland and raised in the East Bay but never made it down to San Jose much. I currently live in Fort Worth but I MISS that California weather sooooo much.
I grew up in San joae. It's changed substantially over the last two decades. I barely recognize it. It's rare to run into actual natives these days, people from all over have come here and consumed every property and piece of land. Very sad I can't afford to live in my own homeland.
There building apartments for Asians n India/ Arabs taking out originals . Changing the city . Now less people will visit . . it’s say it San Jose . So many other people here not from San Jose . Sucks
Great video! I am from the area and still have some family there. Great memories and an unbeatable climate. Santa Cruz beach boardwalk a quick drive, too!
San Jose is beautiful. Thanks for showing our city. It is expensive because many of these companies you mention have made their employees quite rich not to mention so many startups go public all the time.
Thanks for the video ! I was born and raised in San Jose .I wished you’d have visited other neighborhoods. I’m 58 yo and I’ve never been to the Winchester house . My parents bought there first brand new house here $6000. They bought a different home 8 years later for $36,000 . A year ago my mom passed and we undersold her house for $1,060,000
Nice video. Welcome to San Jose. I grew up here and love it; got a good education, worked hard to be able to live here since. You should do more videos of Milpitas, Fremont, Danville, Dublin, San Ramon, Oakland, and SFO. The number reason to live here is its weather, not so hot, not so cold, but cold enough to hit the slopes in Lake Tahoe. 😊
My dad's family moved there in the early 1950's. His cousins still live there, but his children were pushed out of the market because of the cost. They live in the valley. My mother's great aunt passed away in 2002 and had a house on the side of a hill with a large beautiful yard. There was a bidding war for the house and the new owner knocked down this beautiful craftsman house and built a ugly modern looking thing. All he wanted was the view.
I've lived in San Jose all my life and still live here, and yes, average house 3 bd, 800 sf is over $2 Million, even mobile homes are selling for $1M LOL! back in 2022 we were paying $9.98 per gallon on gas at the pump but now it dropped to $7, it goes up and down overnight. Salary is NOT proportional with our cost of living, it never has been. Thanks for showing my town!
Yes, we afforded it nicely, but can save more having moved to the other side of the mountains. Just have to make San Jose wages to afford to live there. It all evens out, unless you’re trying to live on a fast food job (which pay 21-22 an hour usually.)
Yeah, it’s a beautiful but expensive city. Tech jobs are real good money. That Winchester Mystery House is on my bucket list when I can get out there. I saw that on the Travel Channel. The food dishes looked good. Rock on!
Awesome! You were in our neighborhood- Central San Jose (sort of between downtown and Winchester House). We bought our little 1912 bungalow 31 years ago when this area was more affordable. Couldn't afford anything now- not even rent! Still love it here- even though we are getting too old to do the maintenance etc. on this house. We will likely stay as long as we can. I love the diversity, the great restaurants, close proximity to fancier cities like San Francisco. Can't beat the climate, or the proximity to both the beach and the sierras! ❤
It is not beautiful anymore. I’ve lived in San Jose for 38 of my 43 years on Earth. It used to be a really great place to be. It has been going down the drain for years now. Homeless tent cities all over the place, terrible roads with pot holes, super expensive, etc. All of our city parks are riddled with gophers holes and weeds. It is so bad I can’t even play soccer with my two boys because their little feet get stuck in the holes. All this while having insane property taxes, probably some of the highest in the country. Just paid my second installment of property taxes yesterday, $8,850. $18,000 a year for a basic 3/2 1,500 sq ft house. Where is all this money going? We really need to get out of here.
All the money goes to Ukraine to pay for their government pensions. I mean their war, they are totally having a war. Seriously every once in a while the news has crisis actors I mean actually shows you its happening like every six months or so to make you realize you're sending your retirement money to a foreign country and funding your demise at the same time. Don't forget to send more money there.
SJ will reassess you before you even have a chance to bury your folks, they are not following BOEs rulings on Prop 19. They just moved to Tasman Cisco buildings and living like kings, that money is going to their pension funds. There needs to be an audit. Other counties aren't hostile and openly blowing taxpayer dollars.
Looks like you drove though the Willow Glen neighborhood. Those houses are well over a million. The typical neighborhood would be Blossom Valley or Cambian Park neighborhoods.
I've loved binge watching your videos recently. Suggestion - if you haven't already, I suggest you visit Burlington, Iowa. Beautiful old architecture throughout the town.
I know San Jose, California very well. I lived there since 1981-2016. It’s a beautiful place. I didn’t know S.J was the first capital of the state. Thank you
The Bank of Italy building in downtown San Jose is currently being converted from offices to housing, which is probably why some of the windows were boarded up. Real estate is so expensive and scarce that nobody abandons buildings like that in the Bay Area.
Thanks for visiting my hometown, where I grew up! ❤ I couldn't afford it either when I became a young adult, married with 3 young children, so I moved to WA state. Been up here in the PNW for over 30 years.
Thank you so much for the tour of San Jose. I'm an immigrant who moved to San Francisco in 1989 and then to San Jose 25 years ago. 25 years ago we could not afford to buy a house in SF for 350 k, so we moved to San Jose and got a townhouse for 242 K. Now my townhouse worth over 1 million. I work in IT but still cannot afford anything in San Francisco, so San Jose is still cheaper :-)
Love that hotel. I stayed there one night, and I don't even remember why, since I live in SJ. The funny story about that is the Embassy suites is a "checkpoint" for arrival for light aircraft to San Jose airport. It helped that the hotel was painted blazing pink. You call out "I am abeam the Embassy suites" to the SJC controller.
I'm glad you found your way to San Jose.
Right!

San Francisco is beautiful. San Jose is not. I live in San Jose. It is a decent place to live. Expensive.
Yeah, I wouldn't go back today. Not if you want to keep those good memories
San Jose is a beautiful city. Thank you for the tour.
Sharks are the worst team in the league
San jose is still very nice and now san francisco is falling apart. That's to bad because I love the bay area.
San Jose has a big gang problem in the working-poor neighbor hoods. They just showed the downtown areas, where tech workers play.
@@ladonna2u742 No it doesn't. Are you even from San Jose? Been living here for decades and gangs are not a big problem at all. You rarely if ever hear about gang-related issues, and I live right next to ESSJ.
Ugh and the Great weather 😢. I miss San Jose really bad.
Same here Campbell 👀 next to John d Morgan Park ✌️
Joe has developed a real steady hand in his camera work. Crystal clear images and nice editing. Fun to watch.
Thank you!!
As a professional photojournalist, I agree. Nicely done.
What type of camera is it? Just curious
It’s a DJI OSMO Pocket 3.
I bet they made a good penny. San Jose is very expensive.
Beautiful area of Utah.
Seems there are a lot of people leaving California. Soon it'll be nothing but the squatters and politicians, which is essentially the same thing. Lol
@@Noelsterrr 🤣 You ain’t lyin! If it wasn’t for my son I would’ve been out of here a long time ago.
@@sandyg202 Too few police for a city this size.
How can you stand the insane liberal policies??!!! This has been destroyed by liberals!!!
Wow, thank you!
Thank you for understanding us. @@VanTran-ne4yf
Great to hear! I love my san jose and I'm 62. Born and raised here.
Near Skylonda, Scotts Valley, Felton I bet.
Love the contrast of the episodes on your channel - from ghost towns in Texas to this beautiful, wealthy city. Safe travels.
San Jose is one of the biggest cities in the United States that you never really hear a lot about it.
San Jose is a big city at least a million in population. However when you look at cities like Portland Seattle or Houston,San Jose is pretty small and very insignificant looking.
@@jdos5643The city of San Jose is larger in population than Portland or Seattle.
@@Urbanhandyman yeah that’s what I’m saying but when you compare the cities San Jose looks small. And yes I know it’s because of the airport is right next to downtown.
This is facts all the attention is on SF and Oakland
It’s because downtown San Jose is unremarkable.
Thank you for the great comment!
She should have been more concerned about the living.
Mrs Winchester shouldn't be afraid of the dead .
Oooh, excellent little Duran Duran shout out at the end, Nicole!!
I particularly enjoy Joe’s architectural commentary. Most of which I’m in total agreement with. I love old buildings, but I also found City Hall to be interesting. And OMG, some of the most beautiful houses I’ve seen.
Thank you!
And don’t forget the boardwalk that is only about 20 minutes away if it’s a good traffic day! 😃
Thank you!
🏆 Campbell 👀✌️
I was raised about 125 miles south of SJ and as a kid we drove up to see family. In 1975 an uncle bought a ranch style three bed house on a lot for $35k. The fam thought he overpaid. Last year he sold the house for $1.15 million and moved to AZ.
Back then there were fruit orchards everywhere.
lol, turns out he was the smart one!
this title is 100 correct, move to san jo in the end of 84 to 88, the best 4 years of my life, i love it, but when my hustling came to an end, i couldnt afford to stay there, salute to all my folks in the 408 forever
Right on bro, what part of town you in
The best of California in the weather, so different from the East coast of US!
Yea in fact all coastal cities in California were deemed the best weather locations in the world. You get Fresh crisp ocean breeze in the summer.
That's why they call the high cost of living in California, the Sunshine Tax.
You also avoid heat and humidity of the South.😅
San Diego is the best. Never too cool or too hot.
@@JBoy340a I like SJ a lot.
It STILL is sketchy.
Born and raised in San Jose. My husband and I had to leave 18 years ago because the cost of living and housing was too expensive. It is sad when you can afford a home where you grew up. 😕
Perspective is crazy. I grew up in Colorado and got priced out and had to move. Through career progression, we ended up in San Jose until 6 months ago. Due to our wages in San Jose, we lived there comfortably but if we moved back to Colorado and our wages adjusted we couldn’t live there.
Why would it be sad to afford a home where you grew up? Do you mean "not able to afford" a home where you grew up?

Love the addition of the drone shots
She was beautiful too (perfect ass).@@BirdDogey1
i have texan relatives, they only watch fox news, they have a distorted view of everything. good luck to you being there.

Thank you for visiting my city! Love your channel! I hope you are having a good time in the Bay Area!
Beautiful San Jose
Thank you for this video. I really enjoy your videos bring a lot of knowledge to me in the world.😊
My grandpa and uncle built and operated the Futurama Bowl in 1959, now demolished.
I remember that! Wish we still had all the alleys that were in the area. I definitely miss them.
@@davidmacias741 I was just a kid, I don't remember those other bowling alleys. Did you ever go to the Futurama?

Your food looked good and Nicky's didn't get a salad. Good seeing you and thanks for the ride along Cats don't have a lot of money to live there. 🐈
Thanks for the tour! I'm in my 60's and I've lived in the San Jose area most of my life. You're spot on about the housing becoming so expensive because of tech. The 90's were an exciting time in Silicon Valley. People became millionaires overnight. I still kick myself for not taking the job at that little search engine company! 😜
The Bank of Italy later changed its name to the Bank of America, which is now mostly nation-wide.

Mobile home for $1M? Which mobile home? Can you show ?
I'm glad you concentrated on the nice parts of SJ. I often forget there are nice parts because it's become such a magnet for homeless and crime.
Nice city but most expensive and Nice food.
Enjoyed the video.
Yes, we afforded it nicely, but can save more having moved to the other side of the mountains. Just have to make San Jose wages to afford to live there. It all evens out, unless you’re trying to live on a fast food job (which pay 21-22 an hour usually.)
Wow, crazy expensive! Enjoyed the ride! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your amazing video in San José Californië
I must say i enjoy your back ground music selections, and wow i thought the Winchester would be more elaborate.
Thank you for taking us along
Unfortunately it’s expensive for ppl with a 9-5 job. Only the rich can afford to live in San Jose. I still think it’s a beautiful city.
Just might do that! :)
I know San Jose, California very well. I lived there since 1981-2016. It’s a beautiful place. I didn’t know S.J was the first capital of the state. Thank you
its not.
The Bank of Italy building in downtown San Jose is currently being converted from offices to housing, which is probably why some of the windows were boarded up. Real estate is so expensive and scarce that nobody abandons buildings like that in the Bay Area.
Just discovered your channel. Absolutely wonderful! A Jewel my friend.
Thank you!
Thank you for a fantastc video! Greetings from Norway!
I was born and raised in San Jose. Left my home town in the 90's and moved to Reno, Nevada because the cost of living was brutal in San Jose.
