  • This week we travel to Lancaster County, PA to check out Hazmat 2's Hazmat rig! This truck has everything that is needed to clean up a hazmat chemical spill. Instead of just touring their one truck, we decided to see everything in their fleet! Hazmat 2 does a great job protecting the community! If you are interested in learning more or volunteering at Hazmat 2 Environmental Fire Rescue, please check them out at hazmat2.org/

@@hazmat2environmentalfirere479 Awesome to see that kind of equipment! Im the second in charge of a german HazMat group and we allready took a lot knowledge and experience from the brothers in the states for our unit (decon skills/techniques and some equipment) because it isnt a big theme in germany, because you always have the "Joker" calling the specialists from the "Chemical Industry Firedepartments" but thats not working at every time. Would be awesome to see a drill night from you, your suits you are talking about in this episode and more and more knowledge from you :-) Stay safe and if it is possible for me next year on my trip to the state (Texas is my first target for visiting a FD there) i would take a ride to you guys and talk with you (maybe take a part of your drills, if possible) and spent some time with you guys! This was worth watching the whole 45minutes lots to see lots to listen to (even if I didn't understand some of the technical side of hazmat).
Hazmat is a very interesting subject.
Basic level of hazmat what I'm used to is wearing and gaining info for a hazmat officer.

I lived in Annapolis, MD and was a Volunteer Lieutenant with Eastport Co 36 of the Annapolis Fire Department.

They cover a huge area and can face significant travel times and distances depending on the incident location. They're based out of the Lancaster County Public Safety Training Center near Salunga which in the Western part of Lancaster County. Thus, it's a bit of a hike for them if they have to respond somewhere in the Eastern part of the county, especially somewhere such as Ephrata/Denver/New Holland.

Seeing how different the US operates is always very interesting, Hazmat is integrated into the normal firedepartment structure of every county in Germany. But moreover I'm always baffled by the system the US finances its fireprotection by. Just had to think about it when you where talking about how they finance themselves.
While some areas have huge (imo sometimes oversized) paid departmenst other areas are fearing bankruptcy and not because they overspend but just because there is no money.

In 90% of areas, hazmat is run by the fire department in the US. Some places may have dedicated hazmat units separate from the fire service. Pittsburgh has a Hazmat team composed of members from the fire, police, and ambulance bureaus. This team, LanCo Hazmat 2, started as a collaboration between four volunteer fire departments before it split and became its own agency.

I watch on a big screen so it's impossible to comment, but I do enjoy your videos, and you always get a thumbs up. I'd give you two, but...
I worked in a chemical plant for a while and am familiar with hazmat, A,B,C, and PPE, and most of the precautions and so on,. One thing in this video that intrigued me was the use of a drone. Actually, I was wondering about the drone in explosive environments. I suppose (assume) that LEL is checked (didn't recall seeing an exposiometer) or the nature of the hazards material is known and that determines if the drone can be used; or is it a sealed drone? Decontamination of the drone would be interesting too.

The first time I drove a John Deere Gator, the XUV855D to be precise, I was in love! I was sold on it! The XUV855D has become my workhorse. I haul stone, a water tank, and so much more, including rocks for sorting and painting.
